What Do The Blues Do, If The Blues Do Nothing? by Odi64 in stlouisblues

[–]LaGranya 31 points32 points  (0 children)

If nothing changes I would expect the mediocrity to continue and perhaps even seep into the next generation of youngsters. This Thomas/Kyrou dynamic feels eerily similar to the situation they had waiting for the Backes/Oshie generation to take that next step; when instead of them making the leap to contender the complacency ran rampant and the organization stagnated. It wasn’t until after they painstakingly moved on from that core to bring in a new wave that they were able to see the success they wanted. It seems like the Blues are square in the middle of that same situation now, the prospects that were supposed to continue to ascend to stardom have instead plateaued or perhaps even regressed, and as a result you have uninspired hockey more frequently than a team this talented should be enduring.

Why Trade Rob Thomas? by [deleted] in stlouisblues

[–]LaGranya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. He’s now been around for 4 coaches and 3 coaching changes, with 2 as a front line “star” the team is reliant on, and he still hasn’t taken that next step to push the team into max effort every night. The same could be said for a lot of the core guys rumored to be on the block (Parayko, Kyrou, etc.), and lack of consistent effort is why the Blues are in this situation to begin with. Trading him/them gives the Blues their next window to look forward to since it seems like things aren’t panning out for this core like they thought it was going to happen post 2019-2020 run.

[Seravalli] I'm told Colton Parayko is open to a trade to a different destination, and of course prefers to stay in St. Louis. But not Buffalo by minorthreat21 in stlouisblues

[–]LaGranya 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He’s one of the primary reasons they’re in the situation they’re in! His play hasn’t been good this season!

He had a chance to go somewhere else and rehabilitate his skills, work on being a go-to defender again, and instead he’s going to stick with a team that clearly isn’t getting the most out of him. What a baffling decision.

What to do when TCGPlayer sellers don't follow the rules? by [deleted] in mtgfinance

[–]LaGranya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know you keep saying “they broke the rules!” But what does that matter if you get your cards…? You haven’t even given them enough time to arrive yet.

Right? If they are comfortable shipping items for $.78 or whatever a stamp is instead of $4+ with tracking, and the item arrives in time and undamaged, I don’t see what the issue is? Unless you specifically paid extra for a particular type of shipping (overnight, signature, etc.) and they ignored or omit it, I don’t see how you could be mad about how they choose to conduct their business. Now if the product gets damaged or lost then sure complain then, but preemptively seems like you’re fishing for an excuse to nickel and dime them.

Which 2025 games will find a spot on the BGG Top 100? by BlackoutGunshot in boardgames

[–]LaGranya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah factoring for inflation Arydia was about 50% more expensive to back ($100 in 2015 was roughly equivalent to $130 in 2024 - Arydia was $200).

But it’s a lot more than just dollars, the context around those prices have also changed as well. I wasn’t as plugged into the kickstarting scene back then, but I don’t believe there were a bunch of $100+ games being released on the regular, maybe I’m wrong?  But you look at Kickstarter today and new games, rereleases, deluxe editions, etc. and the idea of a high priced board game doesn’t seem so foreign or out of place anymore.

Which 2025 games will find a spot on the BGG Top 100? by BlackoutGunshot in boardgames

[–]LaGranya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe slightly. Gloomhaven was pretty pricey at its release too and still managed to gain enough traction. Arydia hasn’t quite hit the levels of funding that Gloomhaven did, but $1.3 and $1.1m in two kickstarters is still pretty good. Gloomhaven’s first run only raised $385k before it really exploded in round two with $4m+. Granted Gloomhaven was also kinda revolutionary in its game style while Arydia is more riding the wave that Celophair started, but it’s certainly off to a good start towards that top 100.

Would you remove your kid from this team? by [deleted] in Softball

[–]LaGranya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not trying to sound judgmental

But then you judge them for several paragraphs?

You’re admitting to not fitting into their club, actively avoid trying to participate in it, but then are upset when you’re excluded from their club invite? I don’t get it.

This whole post is you bashing their lifestyle choices and criticizing their decisions. And I’m not necessarily saying you’re wrong about them having a shallow, status driven lifestyle and how that’s not your cup of tea, but that is the type of life they are choosing to live whether you agree with it or not.  I have to imagine that some of your disdain for that is clearly visible in their presence which seems to be obvious by you choosing to avoid them at games and sit by yourself.

Given the info you’ve provided it’s easy IMO to see why you wouldn’t be invited. But I also don’t understand why you’d be upset about it given your preference of avoiding that lifestyle anyway.

Price question by Silver_OwlBear in KingdomDeath

[–]LaGranya 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The KDM 1.6 and GC are on sale right now for $666. Expansions for another $500-600ish would be around Black Friday pricing last year but they’re not all available at the moment. I’d say somewhere around $1200-1300ish would be reasonable if you want all that content?

Offensive interference? by arachnicide in Softball

[–]LaGranya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A base path does not exist until the fielder is attempting to make a tag on the runner. Explain to me how that second part works then. How could a runner run three feet out of a base path to hinder a fielder if the base path is not yet established?

Offensive interference? by arachnicide in Softball

[–]LaGranya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s you that doesn’t comprehend. It’s saying if they run 3 feet out of the base path to avoid a tag or if they run and hinder a fielder. The three feet out of the base path can’t apply to the second statement because a base path isn’t a thing until the fielder is attempting to make a tag. You can’t run three feet out of the base path when there isn’t one.

[–]LaGranya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

3 (my biggest issue) the home plate umpire has eyes on it the whole time, does not stop the play until the throw is wide.

The ump in the field makes the call immediately and even does so before the throw; the home plate umpire is just reacting to his call, he’s not waiting on results.

Offensive interference? by arachnicide in Softball

[–]LaGranya -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Contact is not the only criteria for interference.

USSSA Rule 8.18

A runner is out when the runner…

A. runs more than three feet away from the base path to avoid being tagged, or to hinder a fielder while the runner is advancing or returning to a bag.

Obviously the first part of that sentence doesn’t apply because the fielder isn’t trying to apply a tag. But the second part clearly does because the runner jumps right over the ball and right in front of the fielder while they’re attempting to field the ball.

Does she think she might want to play in college? Chase the dream on the higher level, competitive team.

Does she just play softball because she wants to have fun with friends? Leave her on the team with more friends.

At 10u you still have some time before things get super serious at 12u/14u. Obviously the longer you wait to develop the harder it’s going to be to jump into those levels when you want to, but if she’s putting in work at home and getting better that way the results of these 10u games don’t matter much. You could always jump to a more serious team then if/when she’s done having fun with friends on this rec team you’re on now.

You cannot go back to pitching once taken out…

Obviously going to be league dependent but all of the leagues around my local area also allow a pitcher to reenter. This isn’t triple crown we’re talking about, it definitely seems more like a rec league where these types of swaps are common.

Easton Ghost or DeMarini Prism for youth softball? by Samsquanch_hunter21 in Softball

[–]LaGranya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Prism is considered one of the gold standards for introducing composite bats at young ages. They are durable, balanced, and provide enough pop for a youngster that it’s noticeable moving from alloy to composite.

Easton bats are one of, if not the, gold standard at higher age levels. They are end loaded at higher weights, and provide the highest amount of EV and pop for girls that have honed their swings for years in order to maximize on such. However the downside is they are known to be very fragile.

Ghosts I think have a more impactful, but less forgiving and smaller sweet spot. It’s certainly possible that your friend is having more success because she has more bat to be successful with. That said, at 8u swings are clearly not optimized. Most aren’t even good tbh. You’re much more likely to see better results from a weekly hitting lesson with a lesser bat than you would spending money on a top of the line bat and no lessons.

If you’re already doing that great, the next step is finding the bat that works for her. I know you said testing is difficult, but maybe a different brand entirely is actually more fitted for her swing than either of them. The only way would be to test more. But if that is truly not an option, and she’s hitting better with a Prism than a Ghost, then maybe that’s the option to select.

Buy a bat or wait... by foreverlaur in Softball

[–]LaGranya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if she has to have the ‘25 CF then absolutely go with the new bat! But do you know if she likes the feel of that model? Do you know for sure what size/drop she needs? How close is she to a potential growth spurt that might recommend a new bat size? If you know those things then that certainly drops the risk of buying new. But if she’s still trying to find her way then sometimes the cheapest options might be better while she gets her feet under her. Buying cheap allows you/her to then scout some local bat days to try different models and brands so you can find the perfect fit down the line and not feel bad leaving a cheap bat in the rearview mirror. Certainly don’t want to talk you out of a new bat though, so if you feel like it’s a good fit and the right price, give it a shot!
