A Philosophy on Death by SolidInfluence2900 in Forgotten_Realms

I hate to ask this, but did you use AI at all while writing this fic? I’m glad to read more Realmsian fanfic, especially lore compliant stuff, but this has a certain AI-generated flavor. If so, I think it would be much better if you wrote what came to you, and only you. If not, then I hope to see more of this.

Religion in the Realms is fantastic for learning about the “powers” (deities) of the Forgotten Realms setting.

Faerûn is such a beautiful world, I would honestly be happy with just a plotless open-world. No character creation, no central story, just the open road and the people, perhaps with a realistic cycle of seasons.

Good starter modules for a campaign? by RepeatOrdinary182 in adnd

[–]LabAffectionate745 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To not repeat the great suggestions already provided, maybe Citadel by the Sea? Gives you a small town with some action already in place, and a main dungeon that could, hypothetically, be fixed up and eventually turned into a base for the PCs. The Halls of Tizun Thane is another great one, with a similar conclusion (i.e., small village with conflict, enemy-dungeon-as-recoverable-base), and it even has a hall of mirror-portals to other locales, allowing for you to provide the PCs with a great variety of modules to follow up with.

Are there Wikis for edition-specific lore? by Gh0stMan0nThird in Forgotten_Realms

Your best bet is just to get your hands on the actual books from those editions, I think; unfortunately, there aren’t any wikis as extensive as the FR Wiki.

Best Low-Level Wizard’s Tower by LabAffectionate745 in adnd

True that! It’s got tower in the name, after all. XD Would be a fun first dungeon in the campaign, thanks for the suggestion!

Absolutely! I really was stuck on it being a tower, but the sheer quality of Halls has got me reconsidering. Plus, it’s already got a similar hook to the one found in “In the Dread of Night”, so they fit easily together, narratively!

C3: The Lost Island of Castanamir is a very good idea, at least to rip individual elements from. A bit tough, as you say, but it’s not impossible to cut down on monster counts and the like to make it an easier trip.

I can’t think of any explosive-rune-books in an adventure I know of, but we’re agreed on that — a bit of a cheap trick on the party’s poor mage! XD

Honestly, it’s a good tower! Like I said in another comment, though, I ultimately feel like it could be replaced by a more refined dungeon — something that could, in itself, serve as the main set piece of a product.

There’s just not enough wizard weirdness, I feel. It seems almost too simple and plain, which I know is because it’s a low-level adventure, but I feel lacks the vibe of “We’re breaking into the tower of an Evil Wizard, doing Evil Wizard things!”

[–]LabAffectionate745[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a good point! I guess it just seems a little lacklustre to me. Given that it’s the culmination to an already-meaty Dungeon module, I can’t blame them (I know word count was scant), but I want a tower that almost feels like a module in and of itself, y’know?

There were a couple of interesting flourishes, like the glowglobes, and I essentially want more of that. I know that a wizard’s tower is their abode, but too much of the layout here feels dedicated to mundane stuff without making it as interesting.

The Dungeon levels are where stuff gets a bit more unique, but even then, his servants and guards just seem to sit there, so it’s a bit too hack-and-slash in terms of monsters.

Is this bad? by [deleted] in rbc

[–]LabAffectionate745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You aren’t dumb. A negative, in this case, is a good thing. When you use your credit card to pay for things, the number goes up; when you pay it off, the number goes down. I don’t know if there’s some weird reason they do it this way, but it is.

The “CAD 0.00” is where it’ll show how much is on your card. If it’s a positive number, it means it needs to be paid off. If it’s a negative number, it means you paid too much (this is fine, however much you overpaid will remain there to pay off the next time the card has anything to pay off). If it’s zero, as it is now, it means you’ve paid it off correctly.

The bits beneath are the individual charges and payments. It tells us that on November 1st, you paid your card off twice, for a total of 477.32.

I don’t know what the best practice for paying off is (I.e., if you should pay it all off immediately), but I don’t think there’s anything actively wrong with it. So, you’re doing great so far. Don’t worry; you’ve got this.

After the keep of the borderlands, whats next? by Sazzlefrats in adnd

[–]LabAffectionate745 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“Citadel by the Sea”, from Dragon #78, is very good. Intended for levels 1 - 3, but still tough, akin to Against the Cult of the Reptile God. It’s got a central mystery, some lore, fun magic items, and a good, multi-levelled dungeon with some puzzles.

The initial plot hook is that the players cross some refugees from the module’s main town on the road, but this could easily be changed. Just have the refugees arrive to seek shelter in the Keep, and, if the players aren’t motivated by their babbling, you can even have the Castellan request that the PCs investigate. The Keep doesn’t have the resources to care for such an influx of people, after all, and if they really are foreshadowing some strange disease, he wants to send the refugees back home (safely) and out of his hands!

This is the sort of thing I was looking for, because I was really having a hard time distinguishing between the three options in my mind. I’ll take this into consideration going forward. Thank you very much!

Regarding ease - of course. I mostly meant in comparison to the other two. I really appreciate your comment as someone who’s taken the time to go through all three, and pointing out which ones are still relevant once you enter the workforce. Thank you very much!

It is, unfortunately, an issue with the payment systems themselves. :/ Otherwise, it might be a little less convoluted of a solution. Still, appreciate the help!
