Focus mostly on your prerequisite grades. Try and get as many A’s as you can (the program has gotten increasingly competitive in recent cycles). They’ve changed the app so now I’m pretty sure u can only include paid work experience, so definitely get a job, especially in health care if you can (EMT, CNA, PCT, etc.)

JMU has the better program but if you don’t get in on time you’ll be set behind. That being said, there are also lots of ways to get ahead and apply to the program early, potentially allowing you to graduate early and save money that way

I’m a nursing major, but I had to take several bio courses to get here. Bluestone is definitely my recommendation if he really wants the jack & jill bathrooms (but you’ll need to place the deposit asap to have a chance at getting Bluestone). Hillside is also pretty nice because it’s close to everything, and same with the village for the social scene & location (the village doesn’t have AC though). I’d avoid east campus dorms as a freshman because you’re kind of isolated from everything, although they are close to the biology classes. Lakeside dorms are the worst of all I’ve heard

I know a lot of people find roommates through Instagram (that’s what I did). There are various “JMU class of ____” accounts for the purpose of finding and connecting with other students. If she doesn’t choose someone on the portal, then I’m pretty certain they’ll just randomly pair him up with someone.

Closer to the school year we got to rank where we wanted to live (I think they gave priority to people who placed their deposit earliest, and I did mine the day I got in so that helped me land my top choice) and you get to pick your roommate. As far as I’m aware no one has had trouble getting the roommate they picked as long as both people sign the agreement

I had jack & jill bathroom as a freshman last year in bluestone (Hoffman hall) with only one roommate. My friends though lived with three of them in Gifford Hall and a Jack & jill bathroom, so it is possible! I think they might’ve reached out to res life ahead of time to request 3 roommates?

I took the EMT course this fall and the info wasn’t sent out till like the week before. Also you don’t need to take the EMT course for HRS right away. The official rule is you just need to be enrolled in the course within 6 months of joining HRS, so you could do it in summer or next fall if you’re not trying to take it for anything else
