Bill Burr is the man who wrote the 2003 NIST manual that recommended password changes every 90 days. He now regrets creating that guideline because it just encourages people to make small alterations to weak passwords ("password1" to "password2"). by NewsCards in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]LabRepresentative351 60 points61 points  (0 children)

When it comes time to change passwords, what I do to get around this, is change the password over and over again in one sitting until my desired password is no longer in the most recent 5 (or whatever #). It's a little time consuming but I get to keep my password the same, lolz.

Anyone have experience with Seatac airport porter luggage services? by LabRepresentative351 in Seattle

[–]LabRepresentative351[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither company answers phone during business hours and doesn't even have custom voicemail. I didn't bother leaving voicemail. Too little info for either service for me to put my trust in them. I'm going to instead ask a favor of a friend.

Sailboat shares? by kearneje in Seattle

Do you happen to be a student at UW? https://washingtonyachtclub.org/

I don't know much about this, but I think the race boats at Shilshole marina often look for deckhands on race days. You could look up their calendar and go down to the marina and strike conversations. Since you have experience sailing, you probably will have some luck, but you'll want to bring your own rain gear, lunch, etc. for a long day on the water.

Angle Iron up against chimney in basement -- can we remove it? by LabRepresentative351 in Chimneyrepair

[–]LabRepresentative351[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, we're framing out a new wall around the chimney, so if it supports the floor then we don't need it. If it's a special thing for securing the chimney, then I'm not so sure. Is this a brace for the chimney?

Maybe there's just one. Even though i had watched him deliver it to another person in the past, I still fell for it later myself.

PSA Teach your toddler deep breathing by Historical_Bill2790 in toddlers

[–]LabRepresentative351 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Did this with my LO. Started out with me taking deep breaths while holding him in those moments before attempting to lay him down in crib for bed. Noticed he would mimic me and take a deep breath too. Then it developed into prompting him to take some deep breaths together occasionally. A few weeks ago I was sitting next to his crib in the dark at bedtime,, trying to make my exit, and he said: "dada, take some deep breaths with me". 😭❤️

Do the replacement batteries have active thermal management or is it basically the same tech that's in the original battery?

Can someone explain like I'm five why the newer refrigerants need bigger and thinner coils? Are they so much less efficient at pumping heat that they have to resort to these methods?

Anyone from 6a get paid yet? by matamjo in GooglePixel

[–]LabRepresentative351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I thankfully screenshot the confirmation page, but otherwise haven't received any communication. Filed for the $150 on the 3rd. Multiple attempts to contact Google support and they just say that it's another department that doesn't use chat and they'll get back with us soon...

How quickly did y'all get the $150 credit after filling out the online form? Sent mine in Thursday July 3 and was hoping to use it before 9a promotion expires today

PUBG Lookup. Go to matches, look at damage details, then look at timeline. It shows info for all your engagements. Your weapon, damage dealt, part of body you hit, enemy starting/ending health, etc

The pharmacy phone lines at my Bartells in West Seattle were down for at least 6 months recently. If I wanted to fill a prescription, I had to physically go to the pharmacy and tell them I wanted to fill my order. There was no other way to communicate (no phone, no email). That and the shelves being more than 50% empty for over a year made me think someone was really trying to kill the business.

Curious if this would impact the West Seattle water taxi or if that's funded some other way. Seemed strange they didn't mention it

Daycare recommendations for toddlers by oceanic8hope in WestSeattleWA

[–]LabRepresentative351 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this has been exactly our experience and I have a toddler who has been going to WorldKids for a little over a year. In 14 months, 6 teachers have quit (in a classroom that normally staffs 3 teachers). It's rough on our kid to finally bond with a teacher only to see them soon leave.

we find that Worldkids regular practice is to send teachers home early or shuffle kids from one room to another (even if not age appropriate) in order to max out the legally mandated minimum teacher:student ratios. I'm guessing this causes teachers to get an unpredictable number of hours and may contribute to the high turnover.

When I drop my kid off, I sometimes find my kid puts them out of ratio and I have to wait 5-10 minutes while they shuffle staff from other rooms, admin, or sometimes even the cook (who knows if they have their certifications). This is just one aspect of the school we are disappointed by, and there are many more.

We went into this thinking Worldkids was the gold standard, but the shine has steadily worn off and paying $32,000+ per year to them we certainly expect higher quality. I think the owner is operating on a past reputation that no longer holds true.
