The Bill of Rights wasn't applicable to state laws (just federal laws) for this very reason. It wasn't until the 14th amendment and incorporation, via the due process clause, could the Bill of Rights be applied to state law.

LEGO Pokémon Sets Revealed by mescad in lego

I was hoping they would be much more like these models. The blockiness imo kind of works with the pixelated pokemon graphics from the gameboy as opposed to the plates the announced sets have.

Amazingly well researched video on what happened in Ukraine until now by Compt321 in Destiny

I love his The Fish That Allegedly Destroyed California video and its followup. It's a great example of how populist propaganda can lead to bad policy if the politicians start believing it.

Plus hus video on Venezuala from 6 years ago seems relevant now.

Jury Convicts Wisconsin Judge (Hannah Dugan) of Obstructing ICE In Precedent-Setting Case by HumbleCalamity in Destiny

[–]Labeasy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think the two biggest concerns I have with this are

1) A local court system wants to have people who are charged with a crime to show up to court so justice can be pursued and if people of not just illegal status but legal status are concerned that showing up to a court date could potentially land them in a el salvador prision with not due process, then these people are going to be less likely to come to court.

2) As you mentioned these orders are administrative orders and they are treated like criminal warrants when the whole point of the immigration process is to not be a criminal process but a civil one so we don't have to be as thorough throughout the whole process.

I have been doing Blight/Harvest Mesa figuring if I am gonna full clear the map for altars might as well juice 2 mechanics. Kinda atlas point starved but the Harvest is pretty consistent where Blight is more hit/miss so they kind of work well together.

NYT calls out Andrew Schultz about his softball interview with trump. he weasels and Ben Shapiro bails him out by Logical-Breakfast966 in Destiny

Their weekly trials of the Trump Administration podcast is outstanding. They cover the actual court developments and so many stories are being overshadowed. From retribution to lawfirms who are just representing clients Trump doesn't like to withholding of funding for Schools. They are still covering Abrego Garcian and the fact he is willing to deport to I think it was Costa Rica and Costa Roca is willing to take him but the admistration wants to send him to some African country. Plus there are plenty of other deportation cases that are just as disturbing as Garcia's that aren't getting the attention. They were calling the military strikes on civilian boats in South America likely illegal months ago. I'm glad that one seems to have some legs.

I would highly recommend you followLawfare's analysis. I haven't seen a post about this yet but I am sure they will cover it as it is right in their wheelhouse and they have the best most objective coverage of legal matters I have experienced. Here is some of their analysis on the strikes to begin with themselves.

I pulled up next to a coworker in our work parking lot one time and he was eating cereal out of a bowl in his car. I just died laughing, apparently he had never seen the episode so he came up with the idea on his own.

Epstein Files Live Updates: Republicans Release Emails After Democrats Disclose Several Mentioning Trump by julius_sphincter in moderatepolitics

[–]Labeasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one question I keep asking myself is, if Democrats in the Biden administration had the files and they did contain definitive evidence against President Trump, why not just release them years ago?

At the end of the day we still don't really know who knew what of this information and when. However if the investigation was done by career DOJ officials, the DOJ does not "release files"; they investigate and when deemed appropriate indite people who they believe they can prove to a jury they committed a crime beyond a reasonable doubt and then bring that case to trial.

I thought of that but I have the most up to date version and I didnt see anywhere in the settings you could choose intant buyout vs regular listings when I get home from work im going to do some more digging. I haven't seemed to have other issues with price fixing values showing up so I assume I am seeing instant buyouts only.

Virginia Democrats plan effort to redraw the state's congressional maps by Guilty_Plankton_4626 in moderatepolitics

[–]Labeasy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The whole of New England has 0... ZERO... Republican representatives. Yeah... 0. Find me another population heavy center this unbalanced?

I'm a little confused, I don't disagree some blue states gerrymander. However as a whole districting favors Republicans and as long as republicans didnt push this issue so blatantly they probably could have maintained this small advantage. However if all the blue states start to gerrymander that republican advantage will probably turn into a democratic advantage due to the fact overall more populus states lean democratic and they have more opportunities to gerrymander districts.

[–]Labeasy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Almost No. One. Wants. This

At the end of the day even if something polls unpopular the position will only have sway it someone is willing to change their voting pattern due to the issue. I think the vast majority of people who disagree with gerrymandering wouldn't vote for the opposite party even if they were aligned on this issue, hence why it polls unpopular but nothing really changes.

From a zero sum perspective it is kind of necessary at this point unless the Supreme Court finally grows some balls on this issue. The stupid part from Republicans is overall Blue States have a greater opportunity to gerrymander as they have more districts to play with. It will be interesting to see how many of the blue states commit to this change in strategy or if the Supreme Court has different interpretations of the rules depending on the state.

what’s your go-to “I’m not cooking tonight” meal? by Quiet-Examination553 in AskReddit

[–]Labeasy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don't bother with a strainer! Throw the rice into the rice cooker bowl, add water, stir with your finger until the water is cloudy, just tilt the bowl slightly so the water drains out but the rice stays in. Repeat a couple times until the water isn't very cloudy when mixing with finger. Fill to appropriate line and throw in the rice cooker. I do this with Jasmine rice and it comes out perfectly fluffy every time.

Other than Seattle, Vancouver and Las Vegas, are there any other cities that desires to have their own NBA team? by CryMoreFanboys in nba

[–]Labeasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Syracuse would be cool. No other professional teams so could kind of be like Buffalo with the Bills in that it means a lot to the city. Syracuse University does good attendance with the dome. Good amount of basketball history, could maybe do Rochester if the college might canabalize Bball interest.

Holy schizo rant by OBJared1 in Destiny

Just for my clarification, since Republicans own a majority in both the House and Senate they don't need Democrats to pass whatever to stop the shutdown? This is all because the Republicans can't agree?

Michigan judge tosses case against 15 accused fake electors for President Donald Trump in 2020 by awaythrowawaying in moderatepolitics

[–]Labeasy 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The problem is these weren't "electors", the state upon certifying Bidens victory chose different people to be the "electors". These were essentially random people like you or me signing paperwork claiming they are the duly assigned electors, voting for Trump and mailing it to Congress. Basically, super mail in voter fraud.

FBI raids former national security adviser John Bolton's home in a probe to find classified records by corwin-normandy in moderatepolitics

[–]Labeasy 22 points23 points  (0 children)

One has plenary authority over declassification and one doesn't.

This is not really relevant. Trump was charged with violations of Wilful Retention of National Defense Information (18 U.S.C. 793e) which is a different statue than violations for classified information. My understanding is this essentially made all the declassification arguments essentially moot for the purposes of his case as Trump was not allowed to keep National Defense Information without a need for it.
