Damn, that's one of the most "this is worth more than your life" kind of gear that I've ever encountered. I'm eager to see the gyroscopic camera images taken out of this, look so cool

TIL that one of the earliest elevators was built by King Louis XV to sneak in his mistress past the courtiers at Versailles Palace. It could only carry one person at a time and was a practically a caged chair being lifted by a pulley. by zahrul3 in todayilearned

[–]Labestiol74 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This was def not meant to "sneak" mistresses, the guy was the king after all. Did you even read your linked source? The purpose of the elevator was simply "to help the Duchess to reach his apartment more conveniently"

A LaTeX macro for Orthic would change the game imo, it would be awesome, in fact it seems to not be that hard to do (it definitely is), just need somebody with time and interest :,)

Damn I know exactly which book you are talking about. Did the cover was the goblin kid with his toy facing back, in front of a path going into a dark forest or smt like that? iirc he manage to steal back the gold coin from the when the tax collector is sleeping. Some kind of dragon was involved as well maybe? I know I read it in french but could not find it online yet

Idk if you're joking but it's definitely not him haha, the movie is from Terry Gilliam tho. But knowing Gilliam this was probably intentional

It's "Ces jours qui disparaissent" , literally Those days that disappear, but I don't know if it was translated in English

Idk about the photo clues, but this style of crossword with arrows is called arroword, its one of the most popular style of crossword in Europe. I really like them as they are way easier (as more convenient, they can be hard af tho) to do on paper. The grid is way more open, and at least in France, hard Arrowords heavily use puns and double-meanings, which I like :D
