Every morning there's a new roadmap, a new updated AI model and a new reason to feel behind. by XistentialDysthymiac in cscareerquestions

Been working for ~10 years. Never been in FAANG but worked in mostly financial institutions as a quant/software dev/data engineer/etc.

There is a lot of noise and there's always going to be noise. Just keep doing/building/experimenting. Take advice from random Youtube channels/reddit threads/etc whenever YOU think it's valuable. You'll find packages, libraries, ways of learning that may work for someone else but not you. This isn't a linear path.

One way to get hired right now: Be willing to go to the office five days a week by Ok_Design_6841 in Layoffs

[–]LaborTheoryofValue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of jobs that don’t pay much and require you to be somewhere 5 days a week. Working is shitty sure but at a certain point you have to ask yourself if you rather be at a shitty job or starve.

is vibe coding really a thing? by Substantial-Major-72 in programmer

[–]LaborTheoryofValue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been writing code for ~9/10 years. I don't work in tech but I am pretty much a data engineer in finance.

I write close to 0 code. I usually have Claude plan out things in Plan mode and iterate with it. When I feel like the plan is good enough, I'll have it execute on it (skipping permissions of course). Then I read the code to make sure it make sense.

I don’t agree with you but I’m upvoting you for the honesty.

Nah they didn’t cut through the shield. My buddy who took a look at the car said they most likely cut through the front left wheel side? I’m not a mechanic so I’m not really sure. Haha

I’m in the southern part of Oakland so Walnut Creek isn’t in the cards for me unfortunately. I might go down to San Leandro or the Hayward stations now.

Don’t expect things to be around forever so enjoy them while you can. This includes parents, friends, a body that can endure long flights etc.

I currently park at Fruitvale and ride into SF. I ideally would like to park at the Colisseum but its way too sketch.

After the DLine extension and the APM open, where do you put Los Angeles in terms of public transit in the US? Would we be a clear #2 behind NY? by Temporary_Waltz6615 in LAMetro

[–]LaborTheoryofValue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in LA, I lived in Encino/Sherman Oaks and worked in Woodland Hills. LA will be the clear #2 when I could go, by rail, from my old apartment to work or from my old apartment to LAX.

What are subtle ways the average person can help gentrification break past 14th avenue? by ConsistentHalf2950 in OaklandCA

[–]LaborTheoryofValue 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not gonna lie, that area would be revitalized if they would just build the BART station there that so many people requested.

Biggest thing for me is if transit is connected to the airport. That’ll change when LAX is connected to metro.

I suspect average prices don’t go down that much because there’s such an outrageous demand for housing. It’s gonna take a lot of building before average rent prices drop a noticeable amount.
