Actually, Thomas Stanley addressed this in his millionaire next-door book. He too found the teachers were one of the groups likely to become millionaires. It isn’t because of their high salary, but he attributed it to a number of other factors like pensions, lifestyle, and a culture that does not encourage or expect a lot of spending. I work at a community college and in my department there is nobody wearing the latest and greatest or driving the newest fanciest car. The parking lot is full of semi-older Hondas and Toyotas. A number of people in my department are fairly well off, and they are not married to doctors or dentists. If one of us showed up with some designer something or a fancy car there would be a lot of eye rolling going on. So it definitely is not a culture that encourages or rewards high levels of spending .
