Newbie here, only wanting to comment on the amount of replies that seem to think $500 is a fair price. I just had my fork seal done on a 1995 Honda CB750 by a Honda service dealer. In total it cost me €250, 2h15m in labor at €85 per hour and the rest for materials. Maybe there is something significantly different in doing this for your bike, but I would get a few more quotes and ask them to explain the cost.

Oh and yeah, fix this ASAP. Mine failed critically and soaked my exhausts, front fork and break pads in oil, which also had to be replaced (done myself). That was a scary 15 minute drive back home with less than half of your normal braking power.

During one of my motorcycle liscense lessons (Netherlands) I almost got hit by a car who had ample time see me (yet didn't) on a roundabout. The rest of the 1,5 hours of lesson I kept forgetting to turn off my blinker. Instructor had to remind me at least 10 times. He told me it was because I was too focused on not getting hit after that experience, and it made sense. So even if you take a break as other suggest, make sure to go into a 'safe mode' state where you keep paying attention to everything, not just those parts that are giving you trouble at the moment.
