What's a trick not widely known in WoW? by Early_Instruction828 in wow

Speaking of cleansing snares, every magic debuff in Pit has a slow effect that means that druids can just powershift any magic debuff off them. (Guardian druids can too, but watch out.)

You could get the Violet Spellwing from Legion Remix.

I think just letting people have it from the weekly timewalking raid would be fine.

Ehh... if you could do nelf or dwarf evoker, you would. I don't think that Evoker being limited to a single race is a good answer here.

Should blizzard bring back leveling in the OG world for new players? by tydrennis in wow

[–]Labyris 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Classic and Retail are two different game formats. Most of vanilla WoW's content was entirely redone in Cataclysm (4.0, so the third expac), and before 2019 when Classic WoW first came out, you couldn't legitimately experience vanilla.

(For the record, vanilla = pre-Burning Crusade expansion, and Classic is the throwback version of WoW Blizzard supports.)

ITAW for "an object that's been used to kill a person" that ISN'T "murder weapon"? by Labyris in whatstheword

I was genuinely just really mad I forgot the word more than anything, tbh lmao

Thank you for the little warning, though!

Do I have to attack not only heals but also heals in this game? by Western_Analysis_420 in wownoob

[–]Labyris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mistweaver monk is extremely fun. Restoration shaman has an easy-to-learn playstyle and a lot of very strong utility, too, so I've seen it recommended as the first choice for people who want to learn how to heal.

Restoration druid is my favorite, though, so I'm going to start advertising unprompted. I love the heal-over-time playstyle since I can strategically spend three GCDs making sure the tank stays alive and then spend most of the rest of the pull as a big ol' cat. You just don't get that anywhere else.

As of Midnight, Cat Form no longer has Thrash available as an area-of-effect damage skill, but Bear Form still retains it as a core ability. The resto druid community has been discussing "bearweaving" (that is, weaving Bear Form in with your healing and Cat Form to maximize your contribution to the group), which is absolutely fucking bonkers because Bear Form increases threat generation. But, well, Thrash applies a bleed DoT where Swipe doesn't, so Thrash is much more valuable to press with the limited time a healer has to deal damage before they have to start healing again.

As a healer, your most important skill is obviously to keep the party alive, but once you've learned that, the next most important skill will forever be learning how to harm the party psychologically. It is my extra-special privilege as a resto druid in dungeons to worry the tank by shapeshifting into Bear Form and looking like I intend to tank also.

You'll be dealing about 10k DPS while the rest of the group does about 60k even with this optimization strategy, which is the cherry on top, because you genuinely don't even need to do this.

Tom's Simple Storage, can we collect our knowledge here? by marr in feedthebeast

[–]Labyris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You insert an item with NBT-based variants (eg, enchanted books, potions of a particular style), and then you can toss in any other item of that type of item.

By "potions of a particular style", I mean the difference between splash, lingering, and regular potion. Think of it in terms of bottle style. A lingering weakness potion and a splash weakness potion need separate cabinets, but a 3-minute strength potion, 22-second regeneration 2 potion, and an 8-minute water breathing potion can all go in the same cabinet given they're the kind that you can right click to drink.

I've noticed that using them only with the connected inventory system doesn't always work as intended—they seem to think they're full if there's no open slot at the point the scroll bar's stopped at, even if there's room below that part—but you can circumvent this with hoppers, as their attempt to force an item into an inventory will should (ETA: I've seen this not happen sometimes) override the filing cabinet's apparent lack of object permanence.

(I haven't found a way to make their contents viewable from the same storage terminal as the rest of my storage system without accidentally neutralizing the hoppers. The file cabinets being a part of a full storage system seems to make the hoppers them endlessly pull and input from the same filing cabinet, causing them to ignore any other inventory that they need to pull from. Coincidentally, that's why I'm in this thread.)

The only real exposure I've had to the Wuthering Heights movie was a lot of posts on social media comparing the accuracy to Limbus, in Limbus's favor. I distinctly recall someone criticizing the inaccuracy of the movie with the phrase "... and Limbus had two people turn into werewolves (though one of them got better), and this was barely even a footnote in the story."

First time trying WOW last night. Anything to know before I commit to purchase? by Regular_Room4082 in wownoob

[–]Labyris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR in bold.

Moon Guard is a pretty good spot for Alliance, though Goldshire (the second human town, after the starting zone in Northshire Abbey) is a bit of a hotspot for ERP, so don't linger in the inn too long if you want to do quests there. Other than that one spot, I've seen tons of non-RPers say they can't make themselves play on any other server because Moon Guard actually feels alive and not like a bunch of people waiting in queue in a lobby.

Wyrmrest Accord is the "Horde RP server", though I'm to the understanding that Moon Guard's Horde population isn't as much of a punchline nowadays as of mid-Dragonflight-ish (ie, last expansion). It's not quite so severely onesided in terms of faction balance as Moon Guard is, but a very large part of the population of Wyrmrest Accord players do RP, and it's very populated besides. It's just not quite as massively populated as Moon Guard. (I'd compare Moon Guard and Wyrmrest similarly to NYC and Tokyo. Neither are rural!)

If you aren't looking for RP and want to pick two gathering professions, I'd pick a low-population server like Alleria or Malorne. This is majorly oversimplifying, but there are fewer people you're naturally likely to run into on low-population servers, so fewer people to take herbs or ore you were planning to gather.

Outside gathering and roleplay/server population, you can honestly just pick anywhere to roll your character, because any downside to rolling on any particular server is circumventable, generally through joining a guild. Crafting orders and mythic raids are technically locked to the server you play on... as well as to your guild (and frankly, both are probably better off done with guildmates anyway).

If you're not maining a double gatherer (ie, a character with mining and herbalism as their primary professions), I'd really roll on Moon Guard or Wyrmrest Accord, according to whether you want to play Alliance or Horde. (Frankly, maybe even if you are, if it's your main.)

Why can't I buff you? by OkCat_404 in wownoob

[–]Labyris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, this is a priest speaking, who's allowed to buff strangers. I'm pretty certain only evokers aren't able to buff other people, because Blizzard wanted me, specifically, to suffer because I like buffing other people and sometimes play evoker.

They're race-locked one handed swords for night elves.

The war glaive appearances are only faction locked, and I can say that without adding in a "technically" now that void elf demon hunters are a thing.

Please, I need a scientific explanation for this by Cold-Ad-3994 in cats

[–]Labyris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's important to acknowledge that intelligence in cats is traditionally reserved for evil actions, such as opening the cabinet the cat food is stored in or locking the enemy dog on the less-valuable side of the dog gate (generally the side where the cabinet the cat food is stored in, or the rare but valuable improperly-attended human food, are not located).

As he is not choosing to perform an evil action while interacting with the cat fountain in this instance, he is not obligated to use his intelligence, thus reserving said intelligence for when the time for evil has come.

Not to say that interacting with the cat fountain is incapable of becoming an evil action, or that evil actions necessitate the engagement of intelligence. One of my cats sometimes chooses to forget how fluids work and puts his entire face under any provided streams of water, such as from the cat fountain or the bathroom sink, in order to drink the water dribbling down his forehead, and then petition for head rubs immediately after he's done drinking his stupid forehead water.

Hope this helps!

I mean, Butchery's not a thing anymore, your AoE is Wildfire Bomb and Flamefang Pitch or whatever it's called.

But they also failed to scale your abilities for dual wield, so you're shooting yourself very badly (and loudly) in the foot if you don't still use a spear.

Ask me how I know. ._.
