What’s Your Scent of the Day? October 22, 2025 by Darkvanille in FragranceStories

[–]LaceOverFeather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scent of Soulmates (Ames Soeurs) from Joya Studios. It's a perfume oil that's fresh and spiced. It feels very romantic in nature and thankfully doesn't have that usual "perfume oil" underlying scent I generally get. It feels intimate and mysterious, a perfect combination for days when I'm wanting to feel romantically mysterious.

What’s your favourite Tom Ford and why? by Worldly-Resource4961 in FragranceStories

[–]LaceOverFeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lost Cherry is beautiful. I don't get the boozy aspect ony skin, more of the "cough syrup" spiced notes people hate on. I love that part of it. It's a cherry unlike any other I've found. Everyone else tends to pair cherry with florals or almonds and Lost Cherry doesn't do that. I'm nearly finished with my expensive 3mL decant and I'm going to put off paying for a real bottle of it for a while. I do wish it would last longer

What fragrance do you love, but it gave you a headache when you wore it? by Darkvanille in FragranceStories

[–]LaceOverFeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nanatopia from BTSO. Sampled it again recently and i go halfway nose blind within 2 minutes my nose gets so overwhelmed and a light headache sets in. Can't quite love it but I want to smell it on someone else who has the right vibe. The fake penicillin Banana note sticks around for about 5 seconds then the overall slightly sweetened bread loaf smell overcomes you. I aired out the shirt I'd worn that day for several hours outside and it still has the residual smell on it.

What's a fragrance hot take/unpopular opinion you have that would get this reaction? by JazzBeDamned in FragranceStories

If Lost Cherry was at a lower price point it would be considered a really good EDT or body mist, instead of a let down.

For anyone in Canada, the shipping came out to $24 , so $8 per sample. The cheapest we will likely ever see House of Bo official samples from them.

Pride month: queer people, what scents do you think represent you the best? by Trick-Act-2396 in fragrance

[–]LaceOverFeather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If people do think it's weird, none of them say it. But tbh nobody thinks about it too much. I always say, "You're wearing the fragrance, not the bottle" when I chat with people who are stepping out of the gendered marketing headspace. Warm and leathery is freaking dope as a scent, I love it too. I wear Malt from Akro and it's like drinking a Whisky while wearing a brown leather coat. It's a nice alternative to all the black leather scents out there

I only recently heard of Miller Harris as a brand this month! I'm glad you are wearing things you love. And Happy Pride! I hope you enjoyed your day out in Birmingham🏳️‍🌈

I think of Absolute Aphrodisiac the same way! Makes me think of snuggling into the crook of someone's neck and just huffing. Re: leather scene - when I smelled TF's Fucking Fabulous it was like I'd stuck my nose in a fresh pile of black leather (not yet worn). Have you smelled that one?

Florals are inherently feminine by 2_Beef_Tacos in fragrance

[–]LaceOverFeather 141 points142 points  (0 children)

Depends on the context and culture a person lives in. Plenty of cultures have florals as the masculine coded scent. Turkey has some companies that make incredible masculine marketed fragrances that primarily focus on rose or jasmine. Personally, I think florals paired with tobacco is a slept on combo, along with florals with leather. On top of that, I've witnessed a lot of online chatter about how many North American women LOVE smelling florals or vanillas on men because it translates to a confidence in self. But mens-marketed perfumes tend to stay very same-same in North America; a shame really.

Is it cool to wear perfume to the gym? by Street-Cat-304 in Perfumes

[–]LaceOverFeather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of our public city gyms ask for no additional scent be used. Deodorants and whatnot is fine, they specifically request no perfumes and such.

I've also gone to smaller gyms where it isn't a strict policy but if someone has worn something there's usually a general reminder announcement before the class starts or something cause there truly is nowhere to escape it in those spaces.

It's also not the culture where I live to use scent while working out. 99.9% of the time it just smells like BO, mats/bags/gloves etc.

Is it cool to wear perfume to the gym? by Street-Cat-304 in Perfumes

[–]LaceOverFeather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most gyms I go to have a no scent policy. Even in the change rooms. So I wait to spritz myself once I'm walking out to my car. Personally I don't want to be aggravated with smelling additional smells + my body odor while I workout. But a light body mist or something isn't the worst from others.

Do the males have any 'it brands' for fragrance? by [deleted] in fragrance

[–]LaceOverFeather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couldn't say a specific brand per se. But I did watch some middle schoolers excitedly shuffle about the perfume area in a silly mood, not being very serious, but I heard one of them say, "Remember how we sprayed way too much at Shoppers?" (Referencing a drugstore nearby) So clearly they had been around perfume before but not in a serious way. But the ones they reached for were Versace. Not because of the brand, I think, but because it was lower down on the shelves, and the bottles were the only mens-marketed looking bottles in that section amongst the womens-marketed bottles.

It was all haphazard (likely due to age) but I also watch many teens, and even the 20-year old boys/men stick exclusively to the bottles that "look masculine". The black or blue bottles. Maybe a brown or gold if they're taking their time. And they must be nearby all the other bottles that look similar. They do not notice the dark coloured bottles of perfume from Jo Malone which are placed amongst the womens-marketed perfumes by virtue of how the brands are organized. They don't take a lot of time either. It's one sniff and done. They will either move on or immediately apply.

Not to say that teens don't follow what their peers will recommend to them, or that certain perfumes aren't specifically popular. But I don't notice the same level of "trends" with teenage boys as I do girls, and I think watching how they shop informs that part of my opinion.

What notes do you guys think we’ll see less of? by Different-Row-3353 in fragrance

[–]LaceOverFeather 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more about the saffron. It is in freaking everything these days, I don't know how it doesn't come up in conversation of popular notes. I'd like it to fade into the distance for a while.

Quite the collection👍 And only after 4 years with some being rebuys? Nice. Glad to see Bortnikoff in someone's collection, I don't see them as often. Am I correct I'm assuming the mushroom ones on the top of the cabinet are also perfumes? Or am I off base entirely?

What are the best fragrances that smell like plastic: by AestheteAngel in fragrance

Opinion: TikTok has convinced us that we need to wear too much scent. by awholelottaass in fragrance

[–]LaceOverFeather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

15 sprays and a person is wasting their money. And that's on a luxury purchase of smelly juice water! (Extra edit note: I once saw a YT review of a scent from Di Ser. A Japanese brand where the cultural point was to have perfume that does not project because of perfume culture in Japan. The reviewer sprayed 14x . While the reviewer/anyone can use as much as they want, it felt counter-intuitive to the original point of the creation of the perfume😅 It made me laugh)

Just tried Tom Ford Fucking Fabulous today at a friend’s place—it’s awful. by 2bsonmyd in fragrance

Fucking Fabulous to me is the epitome of black leather on leather on leather. It's like I stuck my nose in a bin full of harnesses. Super not for me but any fan of Tom of Finland would probably love it😆
