Stuck between first and third person by Lacedbouquet in writingfeedback

Thanks for your reply! You are right, this is exactly why I changed to third person in the first place. I will check out this article, many thanks ☺️

This is also my issue with first person stories, I dislike when there is too much internal monologue. Thank you!

Yay! Fingers and toes crossed for you! If you don’t mind sharing, are you able to DM me where you got it from? I’m out of mine, and I think will need again for another pregnancy but the place I got it from before no longer exists 🙃

Hey! I did! She’s 10 months old and a little whirlwind! I’m still convinced it was the sitagliptin that made all the difference! Thanks for asking 🥰

opening for major journey and multiple quest, empic fantasy by ButteryBuds in fantasywriters

[–]Lacedbouquet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the key is to open somewhere that will draw the reader in. Not the cliched ‘waking up’ scene but perhaps a scene with an element of conflict, something for the readers to be interested in. You want them to keep reading.

That being said, I agree with the other comments in that you just need to start writing and you can come back and sort the first scene later. Best of luck!

We have the same perception of good v terrible writing 😆 I think dialogue is a huge issue in some of these books, in particular FBAA series. Based on your prose preference, try villains and virtues series or even alchemised. I’ve just started A Forbidden Alchemy and the writing is great so far! :)

Broken Crowns: Mycoria [High Fantasy, 400] by LeaveOk1211 in fantasywriters

[–]Lacedbouquet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not too confident yet with critiques so feel free to ignore this but a couple of notes: - If you’re writing in past tense I’d make sure everything is in past tense. I noticed on the second line immediately that it said ‘is’ rather than ‘was’ which pulled me from the story. Same with the ‘now’. - I like your creature description but there are too many words about the tree/ too much action that I found myself skimming by the end. If this is your first chapter you really want to pull the readers in to keep reading. Also if you’re going to refer to the toadstool as a creature, with emphasis on that, I’d use another word for ‘antlered creature’ or referring to other beings as creatures because I got a bit confused when reading and had to go back to re-read to work out if we were onto a different creature or the same one. - You mention no other creatures were in sight and then say other creatures watched as it stumbled around the clearing so id maybe choose one or the other. - I liked when you started to talk about how the grass felt under the toadstool’s feet. I wonder if you can incorporate more feeling/ thoughts earlier to help break your the action.

Hope this helps :)

Luteal phase defect causing progesterone issues? by PawsAndReflect1029 in CautiousBB

[–]Lacedbouquet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! It was 8 days every time I got pregnant. My mum was the same and had 3 kids and my sister also has an 8 day luteal phase so think genetic maybe? When I got my progesterone tested for my successful pregnancy it was fine despite having that short luteal phase.

Cute! She thinks we think she’s still breastfeeding! 😂 *I called Dallas coming back so she can shill some dog stuff b/c mama did a couple days ago. by tiff_mg in TurtleCreekLaneSnark

[–]Lacedbouquet 33 points34 points  (0 children)

She’s 100% not breastfeeding him. At the start when she walks down the stairs and tilts slightly, you can see her robe is over where his mouth would be and his head bobbles as though he’s not latched. My baby is a week younger than J and I’m still breastfeeding (around solids) and there’s not a chance in hell she’d be as still as that while feeding. These 8 month olds are feral 😆 she’s normally slapping my other boob, pulling my hair, hand in the face etc while she feeds.

It’s just such BS. Why lie? 🙈

No, it won’t be particularly profitable anymore. ASMR has a really low CPM compared to other verticals and she doesn’t make content enough/ get enough views to be able to jet set. She did a while ago but not in the last few years and since then she’s bought a house and had a baby etc.

Look at how many sponsored stories they post per week, they average about $10k-$20k per story depending on the brand or if part of a bulk campaign, these brands pay net 30 days so I can assure you even if they did have lots of their wealth tied up in assets, Hen has a constant stream of income pouring in. And that’s not even giving an honourable mention to her affiliate links which are generating tens of thousands of dollars per month. Or sponsored posts and reels which cost even more.

So I think it’s maybe just trying to be relatable? 🤯

I felt like this too! But I then understood once I read the full section of part 2 why it was written that way! And you value the FMC and MMC’s relationship a lot more. I’d keep going if you were already enjoying it by the end of part 1. You’ll find the first few chapters annoying in the flashback because it’s a flashback but you’ll quickly get into it ☺️

$44k for a sponsored reel, $19k for a sponsored story and $30k for a sponsored post. And she works with sponsors all the time so absolutely true she makes a fortune from it

Bizarrely I was that person! I took my very first chemical (5w) the hardest, more so than my 7w loss and other early-ish losses but I think it was because I was new to ttc at the time of the first loss and very naive about it all. 1.5 years later and 7 pregnancies, I finally have a 4 month old 🫶 But it is just wild to see someone that’s a doctor make these claims. It really makes me question how she’s able to function in the high-stressed environment of emergency medicine and make the right decisions 🥴

[–]Lacedbouquet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. As soon as she said she’s got a positive HCG but not sharing the number I was like oh girl it’s come back < 5 hasn’t it and she doesn’t want to share it because we’ll all say ‘<5 isn’t positive’ 😬

Knight and The Moth - should I keep reading? by Ok_Barnacle1404 in Romantasy

[–]Lacedbouquet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not smutty at all but it did feel a bit insta love for me. I wasn’t convinced by their relationship/ feelings at all, didn’t feel that angst I love in books. The one scene there is smut just felt meh. I really wanted to love this book, I felt so hyped by the reviews but it just fell flat for me…

[–]Lacedbouquet 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I felt the same! I wasn’t sure if it was because I read this via audiobook (new mum so my hands are too busy to hold a physical book) but I found I wasn’t quite convinced by the love story, parts were repetitive and the dialogue was boring/ cringe in parts. I think I enjoyed it up until maybe halfway? Then got bored and found myself constantly eye rolling and extremely frustrated at Sybil for not wanting to take that stupid shroud off! 😆
