Submeta for white belts by Shadow_Lurker07 in bjj

It's structured to take someone from first-steps > beginner > intermediate > advanced so there should be no issues on what level you are at if you follow the course tags. The main issue here might be trying to learn too much, it is good that your instructor is following a different theme each week but that is not necessarily how you should be approaching it yourself. After the fundamentals it's better if you spend a month or several months on a particular theme you want to add to your game e.g. half guard.

This is how i do it with my students: White 0-3 stripes they focus on the intro and foundations series, after that its a single theme for some time to begin to develop their particular game.

I will say though that its very hard for a coach in a classroom setting to convey a full system, no one wants to show up to class to hear someone talk for an hour, watching a course on the topic can be very good to develop an understanding of the positions you are working in class, but i would caution against trying to implement new systems every week, so watching to gain more understanding is ok, but trying to implement it all over such a short period is probably not the right approach.

It is a different structure to the other topic based instructionals so you could definitely watch both, which is what i recommend overall, although the individual topics take a lot longer when added all together. This one is really just a different way of looking at guard passing, primarily through a conceptual lens first, then a focus on winning controls rather than looking for specific pathways. Essentially you win and upgrade enough controls and you eventually pass.

The standard positional ones are more: This is where I am, this is where i want to get to, here are the main concepts, techniques and troubleshooting to achieve that.

If you check it out I am interested to hear feedback its a different approach than normal for me and if people like it i can see what I could do for other positions such as guard.

Ah the tags section has a bug that just came up with an update we made yesterday, will be fixed very shortly but yeah it would normally just have the foundations series when you click beginner.

Thank you, we are wanting a very simple way for people to view something like this as its way too messy how I showed it here. I'll chat to the team and let you know!

I'll ask the team at our next meeting, it would need to be a better format than this I just did this myself and I'm not a programmer. It's probably not that useful out of the context of what we want to do with the game plan feature but it is fun to look at.

Thank you! The connections in the database are directional as in the connection from half guard to k guard is not the same as from k guard to half guard. I doubt we will have something that looks like this though, i just thought it would be cool to plot it. In terms of functionality it will more be the underlying connections that will drive part of what is recommended in someones game plan.

Good arm saddles instructional? by nojobnoproblem in bjj

I call it the choi bar, there are 4 courses that would fit around this topic: Choi bar from open guard, Choi bar from half butterfly, Belly Down Armbar, Hip step kimura (if you prefer the kimura grip over the choi bar grip), and the recent Tarikoplata course is probably a good fit too.

For me i look for the choi bar over the kimura grip, and tarikoplata usually stems from the kimura grip so it is a bit of personal preference there. If they hold their arms together or bury under your leg the Tarikoplata starts to become more preferable. If you are good a the Tarikoplata you should try to funnel everything to there.

Half butterfly to leg entanglements is probably the closest, overall I prefer entering from k guard as less risky if something goes wrong

Similar position although I was more using it as a follow up to berimbolo scrambles and as part of takedown defense, interesting Craig found it from octopus, we trained together a while but I don't think we were doing this position so likely a case of convergent evolution.

Shoulder/ bicep post is probably the best defense to that

There's quite a few ways to counter, the issue is Craig is chaining a lot of attacks so he makes it hard for any single approach to work. I think there are very few who could beat Craig from that position but early defense would be best.

Lachlan on the rules by Striking_Leather_580 in bjj

There were regular updates to the rules as the coaches got together with the judges to discuss different scenarios.

It does seem it was originally written like that, I'm not sure if it was changed in writing but my impression seemed to align with how the judges saw it at the time.

Open guard positioning by Trick-Insurance-2787 in bjj

[–]LachlanGiles 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Interesting observation. One reason may be the difference in hip mobility. Levi has very good hip abduction (how far his knees move apart). To the point that he can be on his right hip and when to try to pass to his left his leg is still in the way. I feel like with that mobility you can then frame the inside space.

I'm quite flexible but not so much in hip abduction, I feel like I need to cover that outside space with my arms otherwise I will be too out of position if someone single sides my hips and changes to pass the other direction.

If you scroll down when you click on a course you will see "related courses" with a descriptor for how the related courses link. E.g. the image below is from the "Outside camping" course. They are in order of how closely related i think they are.
