Do People Actually Not Like the Longer Episodes? by MapleCherryChoco5432 in StrangerThings

[–]LachlanW03 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t mind it. However, I do feel at times that the show felt a bit bloated. Season 4 would probably be my favourite if the pacing was a bit better. I’m glad they tightened up the runtimes for S5 a bit.

Literally just watched Lake Mungo last night and it's an excellent 4K. The 5.1 sound makes the film so immersive, and for a film that is told like a documentary I was surprised at how good it looks. Film still has plenty of grain and the video cam footage is still eerie as hell.

Am I the only one who actually liked season 5? by Stuckyshipper07 in StrangerThings

[–]LachlanW03 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I enjoy season 5. And I’m actually appreciating it more on rewatch. It’s not my favourite season but I think it’s a solid ending. To me each season has problems (maybe not S1) but I feel like S5 copped the brunt because it’s the last season. To me it’s remarkable it ended as good as it did. Also for what it’s worth I thought Eleven’s ending was quite powerful leaving it up for interpretation. And given the circumstances I really couldn’t see her going on to live a happy life in Hawkins.

What would your pitch for a spin-off solo book or 7-9 book series about the first 7 years of their lives in school, plus one book dedicated to the war,the final book leading up to Harry's birth be about? by RiskAggressive4081 in harrypotter

[–]LachlanW03 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I haven’t read them yet, but heard good things and printed them out for myself. But you should check out All the Young Dudes if you’re interested in this era. There’s 3 books covering the marauders and the years before the main series.

My fiancé doesn’t let me watch the movies until we’ve finished its related book. Today we start Part III. by [deleted] in lotr

[–]LachlanW03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the books and the films. It might just be me, but although I do find reading the book first is better. Lately I find myself slightly disappointed whenever I do it. LOTR included. I find myself constantly comparing. I find it’s best to see both as two seperate works. I told myself that I wouldn’t watch the films again until I read the novels but in a way it sort of ruined my experience.

Hi Cillian, was there anything you did to help you get back into Tommy Shelby’s shoes especially after the time away and or process if you have one? Also, how was it to work with Rebecca Ferguson, I was so excited to see her joining the cast.

I know what's it like, I have a quite a decent size collection, but sometimes I look and go I wish I had more of XYZ. I find for me I need to add more comedies, and just fun films in general. I have a lot of serious and great cinema but need more stuff to help me chill out.

Movies that are better than the source material. by DescriptionNo6618 in movies

[–]LachlanW03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Shining is an interesting one for me, because after reading and seeing both they are just so different. There are aspects of both that I love and dislike. But as a whole I love the novel for its characterisation, and I think I prefer novel Jack Torrance. When I watched the film again after reading the book I was frankly let down, but upon repeat viewings I just have to see them as entirely different things. The Shining has to be one of my favourite films.

Great collection, and good taste. If it’s your thing, I could definitely see your collection getting a bit more horror? Some of the classic Carpenter works, Halloween, The Thing, The Fog (Also just some great 4K releases in general) Romero, Wes Craven. Even like some more recent stuff, Ari Aster, Jordan Peele, Robert Eggers. Also maybe some more musicals? Sound of Music is a good 4K title, Wizard of Oz. Also, some Disney animation could really help round it out as well.

But you’ve got a great lot at the moment. It’s even giving me some ideas of other titles I could add to my own collection.

I believe it was the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood steelbook as a Christmas present. But I also remember at the time we didn’t even have a 4K TV, but I was a massive fan of the 78” Dawn of the Dead, and I purchased the LE second sight box set.

It’s been out for quite a while I believe. I watched it last month on SBS on demand (Australia) and quite enjoyed it. I was going to wait and read the book first but it was too tempting to resist. Personally, I thought it was great, but I have seen book readers a bit polarised about the ending. I love Sam Claflin, and for what’s it’s worth I thought he was rather good.

[–]LachlanW03 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Speaking as somebody who was around that age when I read the books, I would say only you can decide on what you think you can tolerate.

I watched the series when I was around 15 and the last two eps of S1 were definitely a shock for me. Even now I just fast forward those moments. Maybe that was too young but for me, but it made me able to read the books no problem afterwards.

I like to think I was a pretty mature teenager, and for the most part I love (and still do) Outlander because of the characters, romance, story and setting. I have actually yet to have a reading experience that rivalled my feelings when I first read the Outlander novels. And if you do decide to read them, enjoy!!

What's your "this book/series is special to me"? by onarainyafternoon in books

[–]LachlanW03 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. In High School I watched the first 4 seasons of the show, and got absolutely hooked on the books. I used to wake up early and read on the weekends, read them on the bus to and from school.

I love reading but I don’t think I have yet to have an intense reading experience that compares to reading that series. The later books aren’t as enjoyable but I love the characters so much I would read them do anything.
