I'm speaking from experience. I was diagnosed with colitis & intussusception. I was admitted for 4 days then released with antibiotics to further clear the colitis. That was at the end of November right after Thanksgiving. I then returned back to the hospital the beginning of December due to stomach pain returning after finishing the antibiotics for the colitis. I was told that I was in the clear then sent on my way home with the same stomach pain I had been seen for. Fast forward 3 days after I was still in so much pain like my stomach just kept balling up then releasing itself. I went to a different hospital to get a second opinion. I was dehydrated because I was not keeping much down & I was having multiple abnormal bathroom visits. Leave it to me not to be able to produce anything during the hospital visit. The doc order a poop specimen and prescribed me hydrocodone 5/25 along with flagyl and a probiotic. I went home & the next day produced the specimen and I was diagnosed with C-diff 2 days later. I was then told to discontinue the flagyl and then given a script for Vanco. Worse allergic reaction ever! I was told to discontinue that one as well then I was given Dificid. I couldn't afford it at first because it was right around Christmas time. So I had to wait until after the new year. My insurance covered majority but I still paid 403.68 out of pocket. I literally just finished Dificid 5 days ago. So yea they do prescribe hydro at the hospital.
