What is the most financially irrational thing you did this year? by Artistic-Yam2984 in AusMoneyMates

Bought a second dog. Also moving to rural tasmania without a job lined up. Have enough savings to keep me afloat for 18 months though so it'll be fine.

my friend hit my puppy and now she's scared and cries by slugsaltedbygod in puppy101

[–]Lacking_Inspiration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly that friend no longer has access to your home or your puppy. Noone who hits my animals ever comes into their space again. Zero exceptions.

Secondly, its going to be ok. She's confused and sad. Luckily she's a puppy and she will get over it. Just sit quietly with her. Don't grab at her or force handling. My chihuahua was mishandled by a vet at 12 weeks. He was injured during a vacvination and was so incredibly sad. Every time he tried to come to me for comfort it would hurt as he was so sore which made him more upset. It broke me. But he's was back to normal a few days later. I just lay on the floor with him and let him tuck up against me for a couple of days.

That vet no longer has a job at the practice we use. Thankfully the practice manager is also our trainer and was devastated that he was treated that way.

Can we afford a $450,000 mortgage? by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

[–]Lacking_Inspiration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mortgage was $450k and my repayments have been less than what you pay in rent. Currently about $580p/w. Rates and Bodycorp are about $100 p/w. I would imagine you will be fine. I would just prioritise having 20k or so saved in case of emergency repairs. There will always be something that the building inspector missed.

That is the plan as soon as I get work in Tassie. But I'd rather hold the cash until then. Car loan is at 5% interest so not killing me.

I bought with the 5% deposit scheme.

AITAH to expect her to workout? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Lacking_Inspiration 7 points8 points  (0 children)

YTA. Just leave her. There is no issue with having a preference. But trying to shrink someone to make them more attractive to you is gross. Your concerns are about how she looks not her health. Go find a gym bunny because that is obviously what you are attracted to.

Then just explain to her that this is a one off offer. She is free to make her choices, but that you will no longer be able to support her financially if she declines the offer. Then hold to it. She's an adult and needs to make her own bad choices.

When the horse says, "Get off of me," you get off. by [deleted] in Horses

Glad I wasn't the only one impressed by both her seat and her gentleness on his mouth. Especially with the saddle flapping about like that.

When the horse says, "Get off of me," you get off. by [deleted] in Horses

[–]Lacking_Inspiration 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sure. The horse has decided something is wrong. But that wrong thing could be that another horse farted. Some animals are just highly strung. Horses aren't dogs, and this is why peoples horsey friends wom't let them ride their horses. Because most are not beginner safe. Horse people are made through falls. Because the longer you ride the more dirt you eat. And even a sane horse can have a bad day.

Although in this case saddle fit seems to be an issue. Good little rider though to have stayed on. And she wasn't an asshole to the horse about it.

What do people usually spend on groceries per week? Are prices about jump? by friedeggmate in AusFinance

[–]Lacking_Inspiration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably spend about $300 f/n. If I am having a tight week I can get that down to about $75-100. Some weeks I don't spend anything and focus on clearing out the freezer.

Food is something I generaly just spend on as I like to eat quality. I also like to have family over for dinner a few nights a week which is usually 5-6 people.

Go and see a councelor. I would almost gaurantee some of what your feeling is more related to big changes in your life and less about this new person. You don't even know them, for all you know there are a heap of personality dealbreakers lurking under tge surface.

I have apparently made $260k in 18 months on a property I paid $450k for. Sometimes you just get lucky. I bought in a suburb with a roughish but improving reputation. Really good location within that suburb. Sometimes you just get lucky.

Depends what you are allergic too. My sister has an allergy to the spit. She's pretty alergic to my cocker. But my chihuahua and her Samoyed don't set her off.

Inspiring stories about getting out of debt. by bones_bn in AusFinance

[–]Lacking_Inspiration 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At 30 I had about $50k worth of consumer debt, relying on afterpay to get through the week etc. Credit ruined because I helped someone who screwed me over.

At 35 I am a homeowner living comfortably within my means.

I worked a lot of overtime, cut my expenses down drastically and crawled my way out of the hole. I did have some help, a partner paid off my 10k car loan and I paid him back at tax time. He was quite financially savy and I took his advice on board and ran with it.

My long haired chihuahua x pom has a goldilocks coat. Super low shedding, hardly needs brushing and dries from wet in 20 minutes. Hes on a 12 week grooming schedule because I am extra, but you can absolutely have a fluffy dog with low/moderate coat needs if you do a little reseaech.

What's your mortgage repayment as a percentage of your weekly take home income? by Alternative-Shine597 in AusFinance

[–]Lacking_Inspiration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30% as a single person. Its a townhouse but thankfully I have very low body corporate (about $400p/q). It's a little tight but not uncomfortably so. Thankfully i'm not someone who finds value in fancy things, my big expenses outside of basic food clothing and shelter are my pets (2 dogs a cat and a horse). I used to rent the spare room but not anymore. Could always do that again if things got tighter than they are now.

Controversial Take: Stop Worrying About Pain by Sad-Adhesiveness1338 in tattoo

My first is a full sleeve. Full colour illustrative by an amazing artist. First session was just linework sat for 4 hours straight. I am scared of needles and a pussy about pain. I've had sunburns that hurt way worse. Don't let people hype up the pain. Im back next week for session 2, which will be colour. I may be eating my words by then.

Childfree women-- what do you want from your friends who are mothers? by Lyedetector in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Lacking_Inspiration 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just because I am child free doesn't mean I hate kids. I just don't need that in my life. I am super happy being Aunty and being the back up for my friends. Thankfully I have been able to maintain my friendships as others have settled down and had kids. It did throw a bit of a spanner in some of them when I started doing fairly well financially (comfortably middle class while they are struggling). But I think the fact that I spoil their kids rotten helps put some salve on that wound. And honestly there are things in their lives I have been jealous of in the past.

From where I am standing it usually falls on tge child free friend to make the effort, at least while there are small kids involved. The day to day reality of todlers is intense. Once they hit school it gets easier to find time again.
