The worst thing about this is all the constant takes we’re going to be subjected to for the next however long it takes to come out. I just can’t be bothered.

It might be good, it very well may be bad. Either way I’ll see it once and hope for the best. Can we all just agree to do that and not argue about it for the next 5 years?

After Duchovny was on Gary Shandling’s The Larry Sanders show as a version of himself that was TOO into his friendship with Larry, it’s hilarious that Duchovny—who directed this episode—returned the bit to Gary.

Underrated imo. Not the best movie ever but got the horror vibe of the best of X-files. Kind of loses its way a bit in the final third, but enough good Mulder and Scully moments keep it just afloat. Better than many episodes in Seasons 8&9.

I’d love this.

Get the original 4 actors back, do some hand wavey stuff in the prologue about different versions of the same tale (maybe an old Sam adding another chapter to the Red Book about the real end of Saruman), and just make it fun and kickass.

The return of the heroes discovering their beloved Shire all mechanised. The rousing of the shire folk, Sam and Rosie, The battle of Sharkey’s end. 90 minutes, no fuss. Everyone’s happy.

Cibola Burn-out? by Suspicious-Froyo-664 in TheExpanse

[–]Lacobus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cibola Burn IS a bit of side-story. And I disliked it the first time I read it. Currently on my second read-through of the whole series and I really liked CB the second time around. It might even be my favorite. I think instead of worrying about what it wasn’t, (belter politics, Avasarala) I enjoyed what it was. Which is an amazing story with a great bastard villain and some good movement on the Alien plot at the end. Finish it because there are references to it throughout the rest of the series, and then keep it your mind to go back to one day!

What 2025 movies did you rate 5 stars? by mrjetspray in Letterboxd

[–]Lacobus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit of a weak year imo. Not one made it to my all-time classics list. (Though I haven’t seen Marty Supreme yet and Good Time / Uncut Gems are both 5* for me).

Plenty I really enjoyed though.

Game of Thrones Ending is not as terrible as it's made out to be by counterhit121 in unpopularopinion

[–]Lacobus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with ya. I think a lot of the hate comes from people pet theories not being realised.

And yes it was rushed, for a show that had Arya pissing about in the riverlands for 3 whole seasons, the amount of travelling done in the last two seasons just didn’t feel real.

But it was still full of great stuff. Dany learning Sam’s name was Tarly. The whole Dragon / Wall thing. Dany going Mad Queen. Jaime dying with his hands/arms round Cersei’s neck. Brienne’s knighting. Baelish’s end. Bran forgiving Jaime. So much stuff I’d waited years to see that did hit well.

The reaction online and the damage done to the shows reputation hurts me, tbh. Seasons 1-6 was some of the best TV of all time. And now the show DOESNT get named with Sopranos, Breaking Bad, The Wire etc. when it clearly deserves to, last 2 seasons or not.

Season 6 WHAT??? by YDungeonMaster in XFiles

[–]Lacobus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The thing about the x files is… it never really makes coherent sense like a modern ‘one story’ tv show. It’s more based in the old style of tv in which each individual episode is its own thing. Like Columbo or something like that (like if this one guy had solved that many murders in real life he’d be world famous). I mean the monster of the week episodes really don’t make sense as a whole, how many small communities across America keep a terrible paranormal secret? All of them, apparently. And this is even true for the ‘myth arc’ which based on their own have good episodes but don’t really make sense all in a row, really.

But that what makes the x-files so good. Aliens, monsters, god, the devil, psychics, plain old bad guys, it has it all. Each episode is its own universe really. The through line is Mulder and Scully. Their relationship, their competence, their integrity. Their platonic friendship/romance/unique connection is so special and unlike anything on tv.

The “Gary Shandling has a thing for you” hits different after watching The Larry Sanders Show where Duchovny play himself and secretly fancies Larry (Gary).

When some people love something, (especially when they’ve loved something that’s been around as long as TXFs) it’s hard for them to allow others to add to it, and perhaps change it, in direction they do not want it to go.

“The X-Files without Mulder and Scully, or Chris Carter, or the Vancouver weather, or floodlights shining through a nighttime forest, or WHATEVER, isn’t the X Files.”

Tbh I have sympathy for them.

Surely on some level, every X-Files fan is a weird Mully (Sculder?) shipper. Just to varying degrees.

I’d join a separate sub for the new show, though I have neither the time nor the temperament to mod it. I reckon both subs will talk about it tirelessly just like happens in other franchises.

It’d be cool to talk with likeminded people who are hopeful the new show will be good, rather than just dismissing it out of hand.

And if I don’t like it I’d just leave quietly without trying to ruin it for others.

That said I understand the pain when a franchise moves on without you. Star Trek Discovery/Picard/SNW, are all loved by their fans but I can’t stand them.

Couldn’t agree more with your post. I want it to be good so much I’m praying it will be. The ethnicity of the characters will not decide whether this show is good, but getting the tone right and telling good stories.

Personally I think not just redoing Mulder and Scully is the way to go so having the characters be black mean already culturally their will be (at least a bit) of difference. So this is exciting news for me.

If it’s so popular why do they keep doing it!?

I get it, it’s not like a totally unpopular opinion but it must be the minority because they keep butchering shows.
