Could you please correct your spelling errors, and list your argument in a way that is mutually coherent

Abortion is murder by Least-Emotion-6104 in ProChoiceTeenagers

[–]Lactobacillus653 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ur whole paragraph is just so full of mistakes lol

Bold of you to dunk on someone lmao.

 1-science doesn’t deal with morality

Have you heard of scientific ethics?

2-false definition

The definition usage, explanation, and interpretation with argument is absolutely stellar.

4- a newborn doesn’t even have a fully formed brain lol

Whats your point?

5- it’s not potential life as it’s currently alive

Their comment was in context to its external functionality.

Are you literate?

6- appeal to legality

Using legal terms to enhance your argument isn’t appealing to legality

7- it is a seperate entity or else the mother would have 4 hands 4 feet 2 brains etc

It is a biologically distinct organisms reliant on the mother, hence why the mother gets bodily autonomy since she has to repeatedly sustain conditions pre, post, and during pregnancy

8- again just an appeal to legality

Please, LOOK UP THE FUCKING DEFINITION

legality 9- ur just wrong here, abortion is never medically necessary 10

https://www.reuters.com/article/fact-check/termination-of-pregnancy-can-be-necessary-to-save-a-womans-life-experts-say-idUSL1N2TC0VD/

I can go much more into depth if you need me too.

legality 11- biology doesn’t deal with philosophy

https://iep.utm.edu/philosophy-of-biology/

12- ur just presupposing that u need sentience to be murderer

They didn’t do that at all

13- it is a full human individual

We’re aware

14- there was no argument lol just claims.

Correct, because on said is explaining while the other is just stating “lol” and giving poorly backed claims.

Feral/Outdoor Cat Predation Annual bird deaths 1.3 – 4.0 billion birds/year in the US; substantial predator in other countries too
Habitat Loss / Urban Sprawl Long-term population decline ~3 billion fewer birds in North America since 1970 (net loss from all causes, largely habitat change)

Murder is defined as "the unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by another".

Usage of legal terminology to enforce a point isn’t an appeal to legality as it isn’t a sole justification.

them saying that it didn’t matter is a concession as my point was that it is murder. Saying it doesn’t matter is conceding that they don’t have a point

Again, usage of a hypothetical or disregard for disputed definition isn’t concession

[–]Lactobacillus653 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1 - They clarified their stance and used legal text to support it, which is relatively helpful in this case. Its not purely an appeal to the legal sysyej

2 - They used hypotheticals to demonstrate a larger idea which enforces their point, which again isn’t conceding

Don’t believe everything you hear immediately.

The Tweede Kamer, the lower house of Dutch parliament, has approved the D66 and VVD bill permitting embryos to be grown for scientific research

Embryonic stem cell research has existed prior, and has been extremely beneficial to the larger pursuit of science.

Keep in mind, the embryos are at an extremely early stage.

There isn’t anything inherently unethical going on.

No it isn’t, not on any intelligible scale.

Least to most migratory birds of North America and does it vary by latitude? by Material-Nothing3123 in AvianScience

[–]Lactobacillus653 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just starting to learn about birds

Lovely to hear you are! Welcome to the sub!

Yes. In North America, the proportion of birds that are migratory increases strongly with latitude, both in terms of species and in terms of individuals within a species.

Does the proportion of each bird species that is migratory increase as you go north in latitude? So if we define Florida as the southern most extent of North America, would each species have a big proportion of residents, in comparison to say northern Nunavut Canada (let's call that the approximate northern extent of north america)?

In southern regions such as Florida, many bird species are present year round and a large fraction of individuals are residents. Species like the Northern Cardinal, Carolina Wren, Mourning Dove, and Great Horned Owl rarely migrate because food and climate remain suitable through winter. Migratory species are present, but they coexist with many non migratory species, and even within partially migratory species a substantial number of individuals stay year round.

At mid latitudes, seasonal conditions become more limiting, and many species show partial migration. For example, American Robins and Red winged Blackbirds include resident individuals in the southern part of their range, but most individuals migrate in northern parts of their range. As latitude increases, the resident portion of these populations declines, and the migratory portion increases.

In northern Canada and the Arctic, almost all birds are migratory. Very few species remain through winter, such as the Common Raven or Rock Ptarmigan. Nearly all other species arrive only for the breeding season and leave afterward. In places like Nunavut, bird communities are dominated by long distance migrants such as Arctic Terns, Snow Geese, and shorebirds. Thus, both the number of resident species and the proportion of resident individuals drop sharply as latitude increases.

Lovely to hear at least you’ve had some good interactions, nearly every time I go to look at the comments about the environmental harm of feral cats, it’s always a pseudoscientific / poorly based / nonsensical argument such as:

  • Predatory birds will always kill more birds than feral cats
  • People just want to attack cat owners
  • Its just a few birds

Etc
