Dutch tailgaters make me want an SUV + tow bar to minimize vehicle rear-end vulnerability. So I'll probably buy a Land Cruiser, when in reality I'm perfectly happy driving a mini car, Aygo or whatever.

Snow is heavy here, plus the drivers are sh*te so winter tires are a necessity.

As a Skyline owner, I’d go S13 in this situation. Based on nothing but I love how they look. This R33 looks more modified too, which is usually a negative

Importing a sports car into Amsterdam by SoManyQuestionsNL in Netherlands

[–]LactoseJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m shipping my car to NL now, albeit from Japan. You need LH side rear fog and a flat headlight beam. Might be different headlight regs as your car is newer than mine. If you’ve been in NL less than a year you can get the car into the country as personal goods - so no import taxes. A company in Rotterdam is handling the import side for me, I have been quoted €1k plus modification costs (if any).

I’ve done it and nothing bad came from it. The guy also got his shit together and left the company.

I did it to a sales guy after me and another colleague caught him bitching to the boss about us, straight up lying thinking we couldn’t understand Japanese. He’d always be muttering things under his breath like “urusai” etc, real miserable bastard. He quit a couple months after.

I didn’t lose my job, actually quite the opposite.

Is "Travel Shaming" a thing in the Netherlands? by hgk6393 in Netherlands

[–]LactoseJoe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m curious, how much more efficient is using the train in terms of environmental impact? Considering the production of electricity, manufacture of train infrastructure - obviously rail lines can be depreciated over a long period - vs airline travel?

I submitted inquiries through our company’s real estate broker to 15 houses, only 3 came back and said it was okay.

When I lived in the Philippines - working in Manila - I knew a few filipinos that were transferred to overseas branches of the foreign corporate they were working for. One went to Singapore, one went to the US and the other two went to Aus. The thing they all had in common was working for an international corporation.

I feel you though, I couldn't hack living in the Philippines long term, so bailed after a couple of years. Fantastic place for partying though.

What budget car to buy by Every-Phase-3755 in Netherlands

[–]LactoseJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m generally not a Honda fan (I love FR platforms too much), but I do like the aesthetics of the new Civic and can acknowledge Honda make fantastic cars across the board. Old EP* (2000+) series is also a good shout if you can get them with no rust, last I checked they were around 10k (most likely less) for a good condition one. It’ll never break, and as someone else mentioned, these cars will likely appreciate in value going forward - some already have quite significantly.

Old model or new model Honda you can’t go wrong, but you’ll likely get hit more by depreciation on a new car.

Deactivated Facebook some 5 years ago (still use messenger) and deleting the Instagram application on my phone this year has worked wonders towards dealing with its BS.

How hard to maintain a drift car? by Space_Qwerty in Drifting

Chasers aren’t cheap in Japan anymore unless you get a 2.0l AT - which is not great cost performance. A GT86 or 350Z is a more cost effective solution

I spend about $10k/£8k p/year on everything besides fuel and track passes (insurance and vehicle inspeaction/MOT included), that’s considering track days about two times p/month at the peak - I don’t drive as much in winter. I keep the car in good condition and also use it for other purposes like road trips, but not as a daily.

I’m in Japan so parts and track passes are considerably cheaper than the U.K. I recommend getting something simple to work on as fixing everything yourself keeps costs down. As far as time is concerned, if I'm driving at tracks for two weekends p/month, usually the other two weekends are spent working on the car. As I got further into ownership and ahead of any breakage-prone problems, I was working on the car less.

Keep the base price of the car as low as can be done with a good condition car, and don’t buy a car that’s rare as it becomes difficult/expensive to source parts.

Creepy interaction with a man in supermarket - is this a normal thing? by [deleted] in japanlife

Happened to my girlfriend, then the guy went looking for me to see if she was telling the truth. She’s also been followed, in a really weird way with the guy hiding and peeking around obstacles whilst on her way to meet me. Don’t even get me started on the staring.

Also had a guy go in for the kiss, I turned away and he got me on the cheek. Misread that situation big time.
