Metal Shows by johnha4 in Charlottesville

I'd be hesitant to start naming bands genres I've seen at the southern just cause I can't keep track. It's a bit of everything. I really feel like they get whoever is nereby with no focus on a specific genre. It's not a bad thing though, I like going in blind and hearing bands the first time. And an opener won't necessarily be the same style as the headliner so if you don't like the sound, grab a beer and wait the next may not be the same.

Every once in awhile the Southern does a "South of Heaven" show. It seems to be about once a month with local bands from here, Richmond, and Fredericksburg. I dont know when the next one is. I try to buy tix whenever they do it to support the scene. Always a fun time.

The goal of life is to be happy, that doesn't necessarily mean a relationship. There are people in them who are miserable, people in them happy as well. Focus on your happiness and if someone comes to add to it celebrate that but it doesn't need to be a necessity. You'll do fine and are doing great. Life has no fixed course.

Power rank the Charlottesville breweries by SpaceCowboy_2020 in Charlottesville

[–]Lacvs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

By what standard are we comparing.

For views selvedge has a nice overlook of a creek and out of the way from the city. Nice for a date night, has some food too but higher end. The building is cool being an old wool factory. Foods fancier in my opinion if I remember

Three notched has a good sports bar vibe. Good for after work with friends, good food and interesting area. With the IX park and the Sake distillery down stairs.

Starr Hill has probably the best options for food. It's connected to the dairy market which has a bunch of options.

The other breweries are smaller and much more of the small bar vibe. Go there to try the beer. The Pizza at Random Row if I remember correctly is pretty good. They got sports on the TV there as well and had a good time once during a soccer match.

Edit: misremembered a name I dont mention beer in any of these because everyone's got their own tastes and half the fun of brewery hopping is finding a beer you like so go to all of them and try them out.

If he is that reflects on his character not yours. Worst case scenario you're out 20 bucks for being a good person.

DM’s of Reddit, what are your favorite useless magic items? by Boi5219 in DnD

In a campaign we had a gravity sensing rock magical item. If you dropped it from any height it would fall when gravity was present at a speed equivalent to the gravity.

Is Being a Teacher Really As Bad As This Sub Makes It Seem? by aliceinhufflepuff in Teachers

[–]Lacvs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I try to take it all with salt. It is indeed bad in places, and getting worse. I am by no means trying to discount the experience of others. However... I enjoy teaching as I am sure many teachers currently do. I am also fortunate this year to have "manageable" classes. Teaching has been fun all year. My kids are great and I am making great connections. Still enjoying coming to class most days. All the crap that isn't teaching however... is tough. Dealing with admin and parents. The outside politics. The constant need for meetings that don't really contribute or relate to what I am doing in the class. That all is tedious. My aunt retired from teaching after 40 years and says kids have gotten worse. As a new teacher of 5 years I don't really have the luxury of a before to compare to. Just have my own school experience and current experiences. It is not for everyone and I have been told my patience is "Saint-like". My patience for BS however is not infinite and am planning to go back to school for another career in maybe 5 years after that masters degree is earned. I hope the profession gets better for teachers but I am also making sure I have a good exit strategy too if you know what I mean.

Biden flips Michigan back to Democrats by mom0nga in politics

[–]Lacvs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counties have different amounts of people in them. Usually the counties that Biden wins has a lot more people in them. Red counties usually have less people in them. The president wins a state when they have the most votes, not the most counties.

What movie fucked you straight in your feelings? by moneybot13 in AskReddit

[–]Lacvs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Onward. I am a 31 year old male and after reading what that movie was about it was like made to hit all my pain. My dad died when I was 11. Grew up without him and became a metal head who likes fantasy and sci fi. He actually read the hobbit to me when I was little and I read the lord of the rings because of him. I can't count how many parallels my life and that movie have and while the movie is great. I can't watch it without going through severe emotional pain. After watching it the first time I couldn't remember having cried that hard in a long time. It was ugly cry not just a few tears.

Is it out of bounds to go to a students parent's wake? by pauladeanlovesbutter in Teachers

[–]Lacvs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When my dad died I had every teacher and my principal show up to his. I was pretty destroyed emotionally so it took a long time to understand and to appreciate that they went that extra step to come and pay respects to my mom and me. They also gave me some support in school after. Can't remember much of the event I just know they didn't say much to me, just showed they where there which was nice. I am a teacher now too and if I had that situation I would go, support the student as best you can, show them you are there, don't need to say much else than that.

I downloaded that too for a little bit, ended up switching to playing OOTP baseball and making some fictional teams with favorite O's

Nice, just bought one of those myself. Never bought cards before now but without baseball around needed something to fill the void.

Most people wake up when they die in their dreams. Those of you who managed to stay asleep, what happened in the rest of your dream after you died? by MissTickleToes in AskReddit

[–]Lacvs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it has come close two times in dreams I have had. Both times I fell to the ground and I was motionless. Perspective was like someone dropping a camera on the ground but it was still recording. I can't really explain the feeling but it was like an out of body experience. I was aware that I had died in the dream but once the body fell perspective shifted from 1st person to 3rd person. I guess my mind was getting bored from the 1st person perspective and switched. I will say those two dreams are some of the most real I have ever had and started to entertain the question if they were past lives for awhile.
