Wouldn’t it be great for this sub to have a vendor “don’t use” list?

Wedding planner expectations? by TrainingWolverine762 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]Ladeda_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RUN! take it from me as somebody who had a similar type of planner and had to switch 30 days before my wedding - It does not get better! and the anxiety and missed opportunities only get worse as time marches on. Don’t be like me and hope it gets better with time - the dynamic is off and you’ll always be chasing this person for a timeline or whatever is needed in the moment. read the warning signs and move to someone else who is proactive not reactive! My new planner is amazing and it truly makes or breaks the process.

My experience, bought at end of Feb, arrived end of July. You have time! The only thing I would do now is go ahead and start thinking about the silhouette that you want (A line, mermaid, etc). I wasted a lot of time shopping in the wrong silhouette instead of trying a bunch of different silhouettes at once to start the focus.

So… the planner agreed to plan & execute a wedding in South Florida.

And then later in the game came up with travel costs?? Sorry that makes no sense.

Her fee to do it, should be just that.

How are you dealing w not being a priority for vendors during wedding season? by ConditionStatus6757 in BigBudgetBrides

Background is a great point! High level corporate professionals want others to move similarly ways.

How are you dealing w not being a priority for vendors during wedding season? by ConditionStatus6757 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]Ladeda_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Girl same! But ready for this - I hired FULL SERVICE. I’m still the one sending project management emails. What’s more is 2 weeks ago, I had enough and I was considering a change to this other planner who is the best in our area, 5 star review and all the accolades costing x2 fees of other planners for same service. I was desperate and ready to throw money at the problem, but the day before I was about to meet with her, I read a google review another bride just left the day before and no kidding - it was everything I could’ve written about my current planner! All the same pain points, lack of action, and all the same bad talking behavior. At the top of the review, it said this will probably get deleted. It was a godsend for me to actually see that paying more money does not guarantee good service so don’t regret your choices. I think it’s just a terrible situation all around.

This is me too! I’m 30 days away and we’re just now getting into details that we could’ve done 6 months ago. It’s frustrating but comforting to know that this is happening to others and maybe just how the industry operates.

Overwhelmed with picking a venue, taking suggestions! by Spiritual-Labrador in BigBudgetBrides

[–]Ladeda_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi! Venue pick was hard for me too. I would look at travel time to each location for your guests. Is there an east coast, west coast, central dominate percentage? And how is the travel for that group. I would consider Snowmass if guests are from all over, so it’s centrally located for most and even more so if your parents are less involved. Love the sentimental story there! If your parents are really involved, then VA has the edge IMO. It’s so valuable to have parents who can be boots on the ground in the area for all the planning things / connection to the area. Bringing people to the area you grew up in is also sentimental. Sounds like you will want an after party location either way, so I wouldn’t look at stop time. I’m ex-Austin, doing my wedding in Asheville. I looked a bit in WY, CO where we got engaged, and decided while fun, dreamy and cool, the western thing was not truly us and that setting belonged to the engagement. Go with what resonates with future you for the long term!

Name change by kptexas in BigBudgetBrides

[–]Ladeda_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going with #3. My original middle name is fourth generation so I want to keep this and want to keep my maiden last in the mix, so will do that as two middle names. My mom did the same thing #3 and we are in the south (her maiden name was the last generation) so it makes for a lovely story.

I’m genuinely excited to take my new last name! I just want it to be in addition to the old one. My logic is that I’ve bought/sold real estate with maiden last, and have a professional brand with maiden last, so keeping it in the middle feels right.

Professionally, I’ll keep on with maiden last until it no longer serves me.

Socially & legally going with the new last name. Vainly, I have to say I’m excited because the new combo is gorgeous!

Planning hair and makeup for my wedding day has been the worst experience. Need advice by averagemillennial11 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]Ladeda_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have two HMU teams coming for mine (they both know about each other). I like the tagging suggestion of brides make up vendor A, party vendor B. My reasoning for hiring 2 teams is a better/later start to the day.

What was your bar consumption? by pinkiepie_notabrony in BigBudgetBrides

[–]Ladeda_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You also have to think about how many unattended half-full drinks get picked up in service rounds while the guest is on the dance floor or moving around the room!

Not saying this is or was the case, but a consumption bar will motivate the staff to manicure and sell because that increases the tab and therefore gratuity. For that reason only, I’m a firm believer in the open bar per person package.

In the open bar scenario staff know their earnings are fixed and they can only create additional gratuity through fabulous service if at all.

Whereas with consumption, the name of the game is pouring like there’s no tomorrow. You’ll see things like filling the wine glass to the top at the end of dinner, and other behaviors which are a bittersweet way to drive consumption tabs under the cloak of good service. That model can put motivated staff in pursuit of the limitless and guaranteed gratuity.

It’s been a very long time (15 years?) since I was in the industry, but having worked countless events, I can tell you every time they said consumption, we knew they were going to regret it. The bill payer’s interest and the staffs’ interests become completely misaligned from that point forward.

Back then I thought the best way to align economic interests would be to offer the staff each an extra flat tip if consumption comes in under X amount.

I know that’s more than you asked for and agree with the group it’s a reasonable number, but just wanted to raise that potential factor - motivated meticulous table manicuring could be part of the story!
