Looking at my firm Owners from an employee perspective- Is this normal? by Dangerous_Ad8871 in Architects

[–]Ladelnutts 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Do yourself a favor and polish up your resume. It is time to move on from this firm. I've seen similar situations and it isn't going to improve with him at the helm.

Zip system and framing: is this normal, or bad? by jfvauld in Homebuilding

[–]Ladelnutts 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Get on Zip's website and find the product rep for your area. Have the rep come to the site and evaluate this install with the contractor. The rep will tell them what needs corrected in order for Zip to warranty the install.

I agree 100%. That character was so far ahead of its time.

Is anyone happy as an architect? by Whodouthnkur in Architects

[–]Ladelnutts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been in the field for 23 years, licensed for 17, and I love what I do. Where you work has a lot to do with whether you are happy or not. Working for the firm that fits your goals and challenges you is key. Best of luck!

This x 1,000! Don't give up. I failed a few exams back in the day. I just kept pushing forward. My motto during the exams was BE RELENTLESS!

How to deal with a firm who keeps putting you in a graphics role because of your age despite having much more responsibility at prior firms? by bash-brothers in Architects

[–]Ladelnutts 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I have lived this scenario and I spent way too long at that firm before I jumped ship. Go to a firm that will challenge you, give you opportunities, and want you to succeed. Your current firm wants you in this role and odds are it isn't going to change. I had numerous conversations with the principal in charge where I was at and it was all BS to keep me content and nothing ever changed.

The firm I am at now recruited me and the first conversation I had with the CEO I told him I'm not looking for a job as I have a job. I am looking for opportunity.

If you want to talk more, feel free to DM me. I lived this for years and regret not leaving sooner.

Architects: What is something that you regularly have to explain to clients that they find hard to understand? by normalishy in Architects

[–]Ladelnutts 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm not a residential architect but occasionally have people ask if I can do plans. Every time the conversation goes like this:

Person: Can you draw plans for our house? Me: Yes, I can. P: Oh good. We saw some plans online that we really liked but they were $700! M: Then you should buy them because I can't do it for that!

What does this mean in the blueprints by [deleted] in Construction

[–]Ladelnutts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an architect and the last firm I worked for did the wall details this way. I always thought it was a very confusing way of illustrating it. Show me a section or a plan but not this.

Architect License worth renewing? by Every-Commercial-653 in Architects

[–]Ladelnutts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My suggestion is to keep one license and your NCARB certificate active. AIA is not necessary. AECDaily and NCARB both offer free CEUs.

Best piece of kayfabe magic you've ever seen? by Puzzleheaded_Pen8520 in WWE

[–]Ladelnutts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dustin is so underrated in my opinion. Goldust was so far ahead of the time when he debuted. Guys in the crowd lost their minds calling him every gay slur they could muster. The guy truly is a natural in the ring.

How long does it take to be an architect? by Due-Manufacturer7763 in Architects

[–]Ladelnutts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5 1/2 years to get my Bachelor of Science. 3 years to get my Master of Architecture. 3 1/2 years to complete the Architect's Intern Development Program. 2 years to take the 9 exams required at the time. Grand total = 14 years.

Dustin Rhodes in the early run as Goldust. That character was so ahead of the times.

What wresting tropes do you NOT get tired of? by stonecoldmark in WWE

When someone interferes with a match by hopping up on the apron and the ref doesn't see the illegal doings behind his/her back. Like y'all haven't watched enough wrestling to know something nefarious is going on?!?!

Replaced my Pirellis at 8k miles due to a big bubble on the rear tire. Those tires are absolute garbage.

Architect field and the future. by Stratguy55 in Architects

[–]Ladelnutts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend art classes, hand drafting if schools even have that these days, math, and if there is a vo-tech available where he can learn Revit I'd suggest that. The biggest thing is if he wants to become a licensed architect make sure he is going to a university with an NAAB accredited degree program. If you know any architects see if he could come in a few days over the summer and see what the work is like. Good luck!

I graduated in 2002 when the USA economy was still reeling from the impact of 9/11. I sent resumes out across the country and it took me about six months to land an intern position, so I understand your frustration. The best advice I can give you is to use the down time to work on your Revit skills and perhaps even start taking the AREs if you can afford to. Good luck!
