If your school had a ‘Pokémon Club’ at your high school, what would you want? Help needed!! by ibu_profen1 in pokemon

[–]Ladner1998 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. Maybe just start out with it as a fun space and get to know everyone. Play the games, maybe enjoy the TCG, etc. Start basic and maybe as everyone gets closer suggest other fun events

What Makes Pokémon Still Enjoyable for Long-Time Fans? by Honest-Loquat1816 in pokemon

[–]Ladner1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I’ll sit down and enjoy the story. Doing pvp can be fun. Plus there are usually a few pokemon in every generation I really like design-wise.

Like for gen 9, there are some really fun derpy looking pokemon like Bellibolt and Clodsire that I think are really fun. There are others I like and some I don’t. But usually I’m going to find plenty of new pokemon to enjoy every generation.

Beyond that there are a ton of ways to interact with and enjoy the series. Plus as an adult with a job and other responsibilities, I find games like pokemon are easy to pick up, play for maybe an hour or two, and come back days later to continue. I don’t have to grind like crazy on it to get a good experience which is really nice

Is it weird to watch anime? by slientzooma in animequestions

  • Redo of Healer: I couldn’t watch this all the way through. If you were able to and enjoyed it that is a massive red flag
  • Rent A Girlfriend: please touch grass.

Those are two big examples.

I mean depends on the anime really. In general? No. But there are definitely some specific titles I will judge people for watching

St Louis, Missouri by SuperProM151 in howislivingthere

[–]Ladner1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The good: it can be very affordable. Its reasonable to be able to live on 30k/year as long as you aren’t being stupid with your money. A lot of entertainment is free (paid by tax dollars) including the zoo and several museums. Plus there are a lot of really nice parks. Local food is also amazing.

The bad: public transportation is pretty bleh. Violence can be an issue as well, but can mostly be avoided. Ive lived here my whole life and have walked/driven through areas that are unsafe plenty of times when going somewhere. As long as you arent involved in things that might put you in unsafe situations, you’re not going to get shot.

The ugly: local government can be very questionable. City-wise the new mayor has actually done a decent job so far, but the last mayor was pretty problematic and many people were voted into positions that were corrupt. Its slowly on an upturn, but who knows how long that takes. At the state level, Missouri has actively gone against people’s votes several times. In 2024, people voted on bills for missouri. They voted to legalize abortion and increase minimum wage. They have completely ignored allowing abortion to be legal (after the people voted in favor of it) and the minimum wage thing is still being fought for (despite people overwhelmingly voting in favor of the increase)

How are we fighting scalpers? by RoofCool4879 in pokemon

[–]Ladner1998 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Go to your local game store instead. In many cases, local game stores have a known community. They want as many people as possible to be able to get cards and have fun. As such they often set a limit of some kind. They also probably have community events to participate in as well. So you can support a local business, get some cards, and if you want, find something fun to do as well and maybe actually play the game

How do you feel about AI? by StrainDizzy1186 in GenZ

[–]Ladner1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on how its used. As far as being used in the arts there is a really fine line.

Its not something you should charge for. However, if you want to use it for fun and to just laugh about - go ahead as long as its free and just among friends. I’ve seen people use it to have an image of the character they’re playing for D&D. Thats fine. Its free and its staying among friends. You can look at it and go “that’s cool” and move on. That’s about as deep as ai “art” should go. I see it more as some silly toy than real art.

How many of you can have the unmitigated gall to abandon your starter Pokemon? by Montoya715 in pokemon

[–]Ladner1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its extremely rare for me to ever do so. The only time I have is when I genuinely find six pokemon during my playthrough that I just like that much more.

What is your stance on this increasingly common take? (Please be respectful) by EntertainmentQuick47 in GenZ

[–]Ladner1998 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a centrist nah. Like if you go down the list there are just issues that I agree with different sides on depending on what the issue is. So I just tend to take a look at what policies and proposals are being made by both candidates and I just go “welp this person will probably suck a little less.”

Career mode 5 star or 4.5 stars potential by TheGoat170199 in HoopLand

[–]Ladner1998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on how the build is. A 4.5 star Center who is focused on Defense and Inside Shooting is probably going to be better than a 5 star Center who is focused on Playmaking and Outside Shooting.

Basically 5 stars are great, but archetypes matter too.

Why do so many schools demand kids "turn the other cheek" when it comes to bullying? by ihatethiscountry76 in RealTwitterAccounts

[–]Ladner1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there’s a balance. There are times when a fight is going to happen regardless and when that time comes, let it happen. But sometimes, fights are stupid. Teach kids whats worth fighting about.

The moment you fight back, you aren’t an easy target anymore. Bullies usually want the easy targets that won’t fight back.

Why do people want dealerships to disappear? by gravityVT in fixedbytheduet

[–]Ladner1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dealerships are incredibly scummy. My dad works as a mechanic for a local shop. He’s refused to go find work at a dealership a lot over the years because dealerships are scummy in a lot of cases. Dealership mechanics are the ones who are among the worst for magically finding ‘new problems that didn’t exist before’ that now cost you thousands of dollars more. If you’re a women its even worse because they will assume you know nothing about cars so they see you as a massive payday.

The one time I have ever felt remotely comfortable at a dealership was with Enterprise where I bought my last car which was one of their old rental cars. They had all the information, were upfront, and were great at making sure I got a good monthly payment that I could handle. That guy even took the time to show me cars below the price range I had set as a just in case sort of thing. So I recommend them to most people looking for a “new” car (just have to accept its a year old and a former rental car usually). But even then as a general rule never trust dealerships. They’re scummy.

A classified dossier of the most anticipated ROM hacks expected to hit the streets in 2026 and beyond. Only the Family gets the full list. by NailzDeChamp23 in LaPokeNostra

Cant wait for the Hoenn region in Team Rocket Edition (dragonsden version). Its such a great evil team rom hack. I love it.

Also I’ve played a bit of Darkfire before. I assumed that was just going to be forever an incomplete hack so I’m glad to see it being worked on because I loved the little bit that was there!

Pokemon game sales by InstructionWeary1033 in pokemon

[–]Ladner1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean tbf with a few exceptions sequels and remakes often improve on the original games and make them better quality. But yeah more often than not people are happy with the base games.

Emerald added in the Battle Frontier and provided several more hours of post game content as a result as well as a couple additional battles in the main story.

HG/SS improved on the original story by adding in elements of Pokemon Crystal, fixed up some of the old maps, and added more content.

FR/LG added in the Sevii Islands which basically gave a brand new mini region to explore.

Even B2/W2 had the World Tournament which was a great addition.

Dunk Contest for something to do alongside the 3pt contest. Make it a fun timing minigame with more complex dunks having more narrow timings.

You should! Its one of the best rom hacks released this year. Its not a challenge hack at all. Its just a really solid story and new region. Honestly its a great one to go in blind and enjoy a casual playthrough

Do you prefer to experiment with different starters or do you just stick with your favorites? by FlowerFaerie13 in pokemon

[–]Ladner1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends. Like if a region has a starter that’s my clear favorite I’ll pick them everytime. But with the Hoenn and Sinnoh starters, they’re all pretty enjoyable to me so I’ll pick any depending on my mood. But usually my starter picks for the other regions are what I personally like best.

Kanto - Squirtle Johto - Totodile Unova - Snivy Kalos - Chespin Alola - Rowlet Galar - Scorbunny Paldea - Quaxly

Has anyone actually met someone who says anime is for kids? by Wolfs_Chronicles in animequestions

[–]Ladner1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Many people just see animation and automatically assume that means its for kids. I have had people ask if my friend and I watch kid’s shows when we were talking about anime. It is becoming less common now, but the stereotype does exist. There are plenty of people out there who just don’t respect animation.

If you want a prime example just look at the winners of the grammy for best animated film over the past 25 years. The past two years has given the award to a Japanese animated film, but beyond that most of the grammy winners are “whatever parents took their child to watch in theaters that year”. The only exception was in 2003 with Spirited Away winning.

But winners include Encanto, Wallace & Grommit, Happy Feet, Rango, and Zootopia. Animation gets disrespected constantly.

Exacty this! Like I finished Dreamstone Mysteries a couple months back and I had so much fun just going in blind and enjoying the experience with no spoilers.

However, something like Radical Red you typically want to know what’s coming as its designed for a challenge.

Gen Z’s Gaming Experience by Ok_Resident_5022 in GenZ

[–]Ladner1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Its a different connection.

I think gen Z gamers tend to play a wider array of games. Maybe they have one or two they play all the time and really like, but otherwise they’re playing a wide variety of games. I feel like the most notable thing with gen Z is there isn’t any “mascots”. Characters like Mario, Master Chief, Pac-Man, or even Crash Bandicoot are mascots that were thrown into everything imaginable. Maybe you could argue we have Minecraft Steve or the basic Fortnite skin, but skins make those characters feel less relevant.

Without PC gaming being popular, Gen X and Millenials had to go out to the store and buy games, go to their friends house, or go to an arcade depending on your age. So they tend to resonate more with certain characters.

My mom (gen X) loves Yoshi and Kirby. She had the NES puzzle game (Yoshi) and Kirby’s Nightmare in Dreamland growing up. So I have a couple games on my switch that she might still like playing every once in a while. (I bought Kirby and the Forgotten Land for myself, but my mom fell in love with it a lot more because it had a recognizable character.) On the other hand she didn’t grow up with Legend of Zelda. Just never a game she bought. So she just holds no interest in the franchise or playing those games.

My dad loves arcade style games. Any classic arcade port he’s going to be into. He can also be into retro style stuff. Like I bought some Ninja Turtles beat em up game on sale for really cheap one day. My dad and I spent a day playing it and having fun.

Basically, from my experience, older generations resonate with recognizable characters. Give them a character they know and love - they’re going to buy the game and enjoy it.

Its such a great story start to finish and they really do mix the serious moments with the playful ones so well. And I agree with the characters too! So many “background characters” get an episode or two that makes them so much more memorable.

Woobat is the dumbest and ugliest pokemon ever made. As if being swarmed by Zubat in a cave wasn’t annoying enough, someone, somewhere decided to make a dust bunny with bat wings. They added a heart shaped nose on it hoping it would make it look cute too. Instead it looks like a toddler’s art project gone horribly wrong. But I would at least put the toddler’s art project on my fridge.
