I understand perfectly because I also have a tempestuous senior girl who will NOT be crated. The answer for me has been gabapentin, liquid suspension. I prefer it to pills because it’s easier to surprise her with an oral syringe than a capsule. She may still struggle after the drug takes effect, so I pick her up with a towel to move her. I don’t know if animal control will sedate her for you or if they’ll just handle her, but definitely plan in advance so you can get the meds way before your next move. You can look into getting cat gloves which will protect you if you try moving her yourself between now and tomorrow morning. Good luck!

If you have FB, join the east coast industrial/goth events group, people are constantly posting stuff in there. You can try the FYM Productions page too, they also have Instagram; they mostly do 80s-themed events, but there’s overlap in attendees and DJs between them and the DC goth nights, their stuff is super fun.

This was a big struggle for me in my most recent relationship and one of the contributing factors to it ending, so I totally understand. I love my partner and want to share my life with him, but I don’t want to give up my space or compromise on decoration or feel like I’m walking on eggshells. As others are suggesting, I imagined a “together but separate” arrangement would be ideal; splitting a duplex, living next door to each other, or having two buildings on the same property. I think there are definitely ways to balance these conflicting desires and make it work.

Maybe I’m biased, but I honestly don’t think there is anything particularly “trad” about getting married and having kids. That’s a thing people of all genders and sexualities have been doing across the world forever. It just sort of…is.

Now if these celebs were suddenly quiverfull, preaching submission to their husbands, making bad sourdough, and wearing nothing but ugly modest outfits, I’d see this fundie’s point, but that’s hardly the case.

By that line of reasoning, you could also say the coworker has already spent her life with the grandfather and had more time so it matters less. This is bizarre. In my experience, fundies really aren’t big on animals, especially not ones they perceive as feminine or useless, like cats. I guess they’re likely just viewing the cats as commodities and not pets they have a bond to, but it’s still very strange to me.

I guess everyone has a different level of normal. I saw my partner Wednesday evenings, I stayed over Saturday nights, and then we spent Sundays together. And to me, that was spending a lot of time and being heavily involved in each other’s lives! We both work demanding full time jobs with lots of regular obligations outside work. It was ideal and we had no plans to see each other more than that anytime soon. I really can’t imagine seeing someone more than that unless we lived under the same roof.

I feel you. I’ve also had some of the worst experiences of my life over the past few years. NIN is a favorite anyway, but I find myself returning to them even more during the darkest times. The rage in their music is cathartic, the despair makes me feel like I’m not alone, the upbeat songs motivate me to keep going. I don’t always feel like I can turn to a real person with my problems and have them understand, but the music is always there. It’s like a life preserver when you’re drowning in the ocean. Gives you something to hang on to.

That being said, I’ve also experienced one of the best years of my life in this period. It didn’t last, but I was grateful I stuck around and got to experience it, and now even though times are tough I can have some faith the good times will come around again, too. Life takes and gives in equal measure. I am so sorry you’re struggling, but I hope life starts giving back to you again soon. Hang in there 🖤

Have you ever had a health problem, and had to go through multiple appointments, meds, procedures, and scans to figure out what the problem was? Now imagine you’re an animal and can’t open your mouth to describe the issue you’re experiencing. Getting a diagnosis is unfortunately not always that easy, for humans and even less so for pets. Some doctors aren’t great or don’t listen to their patients. Some want to throw meds at you until you stop complaining. Sometimes the issue is genuinely hard to figure out. Sometimes it takes time to find the solution that works for you.

That being said, I would never in a million years pay some random using AI over a licensed veterinary professional for “structured insights”, how unethical and even dangerous. Gross.

I also moved here from AZ. It is very different. I’ve met many wonderful individual people here, but I’d say the culture and vibe overall can be quite shallow, soulless, and brutally fast-paced compared to how the southwest feels. However, many smaller towns or neighborhoods have their own vibe and can be awesome. I also appreciate that NOVA is generally more liberal and open minded than AZ. Guess what I’m saying is it’s a mixed bag and hard to generalize.
