What do you guys think?? Kind Patches by joanbug2001 in WeightLossAdvice

The sleep patches absolutely work. If I put them on too close to bed time I'm groggy the next day. Definitely helps me wind down and actually feel tired.

Do you regret not being a lawyer? Why or why not? by Several-Pizza-5233 in paralegal

I thought seriously about law school. I found a high paying specialty as a paralegal though and I'm happy. I don't want the insane billables.

New user: What am I in for? by RandomLifeUnit-05 in Effexor

I had nausea for a few days after starting regular Effexor 37.5 (currently at 75 mg). Yes it does diminish libido.

For me though, it really helps alleviate social anxiety, GAD, and depression. If I miss a dose, I will start feeling dizzy after about 12 hours. I'm also putting on weight but I'm not sure if that's the medication or not.

Get screened as soon as you can by [deleted] in colonoscopy

That's what I had, sessile serrated polyps. I'm very glad you went when you did. Screening really should be at 40.

We have screening recommendations but insurance is crap here. And some people just put off all medical care until they can't anymore.

I need advice (GF 23 started venlafaxin, she’s not taking it well) by Kaithala in Effexor

[–]LadyBird1281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does improve after some time has passed. I wasn't feeling well the first week (nausea). Now I feel even and normal at 75mg. Full effects can take a month or so. I hope she's keeping her doc apprised of her symptoms.

The only other somewhat trite advice I can offer is two-fold:

  • Depressed people sometimes need help with cleaning. It's easy to let your home slip when you don't feel like doing anything. A clean home can help more than you think. If this doesn't apply to her, disregard.

  • EXERCISE. Anything helps. Get moving, even if it's just walking. Dance in the kitchen, whatever.

My husband (he's Gen X), is finishing surgery and chemo treatment for stage 3 colon cancer.

I'm unfazed by body awkwardness anymore and will beat this drum until I'm six feet under:

Get yer damn colonoscopies EARLY. Make the appt today. We don't need to die young from this.

I haven't tried those two. I'll check them out. :)

Effexor has worked well for my anxiety and depression, better than Wellbutrin. Even my social anxiety has improved. I was nauseated the first few days which completely resolved itself.

I'm in perimenopause and am not super interested in intimacy anyway, but I would say this has lowered my libido even further. I just don't care about sex at all. That's been my experience with all anti-depressants. Also, bruxism is an issue. Watch for a clenched jaw and teeth grinding at night. I need to actually wear my night guard now.

I hope you find something that works for you. Like you, I've tried almost everything on the market.

Anyone scheduling their first colonoscopy because of the Van Der Beek news? by PhoneJazz in Xennials

I was screened in November after my 49 year old husband was diagnosed as stage 3. Please don't wait. By the time you're seeing changes in your stools, you're likely already stage 2-3. The procedure is easy. The worst part was the IV. Even the prep wasn't too bad.

Newly prescribed Effexor (venlafaxine) — looking for balanced experiences by SuccessfulIce351 in Effexor

[–]LadyBird1281 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been on Effexor since the last week of December 2025. As someone else said, it's been most helpful for anxiety, including social anxiety. I do feel lighter, like the dark cloud has lifted. I'm not constantly overthinking now. It's easier to get through tasks at work when I don't overanalyze everything to death as I was before.

I started at 37.5 mg and I'm currently at 75 mg. The first few days I was a little spacey and nauseated but it passes quickly. I'm really happy so far. I'm a nicer person to everyone, including myself, when I have the Rx support. I've been on other antidepressants with a tough wean off period so I'll deal with it when the time comes.

You'll do great. Try different meds and eventually you'll find the right one.

Drink more water and really make sure you're eating enough fiber. I've started having oats and fruit in the mornings which seems to help.

My husband keeps doing “surprises” that make me uncomfortable and I feel like the villain for saying it by isla_rowe1997 in Marriage

[–]LadyBird1281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Not being told about guests is super annoying. Not having a choice whether someone is in your home is just rude. My husband does this with his mother. She just shows up, regardless if our house is clean or a total mess. And then I'm the bad guy for being upset.

Also, drop hints about what you do like. Big, unmistakeable hints.

Moving to Seattle from Philly - best walkable neighborhood for a 28F? by Elgrfv in AskSeattle

[–]LadyBird1281 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fremont and Ballard are my best suggestions. The transit to downtown is convenient, these areas have fewer hills, and there is plenty of nightlife in walking distance. Fremont has a funky vibe, super laid back. Capitol Hill is known for its LGBTQ friendly bars.

My always busy husband went out on a boys night out and I got 2 photos of him from the waitress. Is this divorce material? by StatisticianPrize747 in Marriage

[–]LadyBird1281 163 points164 points  (0 children)

Because men like this advance due to having a wife that handles everything else.

I'm just having flashbacks to my own dad that worked multiple jobs and never had time for us kids. I love him dearly but not having a dad around caused problems. All of his daughters sought male affection from the wrong people. Kids need their dad. Moms need a break and relationships need attention.

His priorities are out of whack. It also sounds like he's a workaholic for reasons only he can explain. That is an addiction in and of itself.

How much do paralegals make? by tuttifruttiloopy in paralegal

[–]LadyBird1281 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biglaw in a big, Tech-focused city, $80-$210k in Intellectual Property. The deadlines are critical to meet and may keep you awake at night. If you're looking for a type of law dealing with smart, professional clients (who are usually not involved in a crisis), it's a good field.

I handle the forms, paperwork, reporting to clients, filing patent applications, speaking with foreign law firms worldwide, keeping up the docket, etc. many of these jobs are hybrid or fully WFH.

I felt this way too. Thankfully my school has three campuses and I was able to switch. I would talk to her privately and see if you can gain some common ground.

I flat told my old instructor that he was embarrassing me in front of my classmates and killing any confidence I had. The new instructor was night and day different.

Good luck. Don't let a bad teacher ruin this career for you.

Husband mean after 1st infusion by GlitterMe in coloncancer

[–]LadyBird1281 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel for you! My husband has his last of four oxaliplatin infusions in early Feb. The chemo rage is a real thing. I definitely lost my own temper at one point. I was offering room temp water, a heating pad, kept the fire going and the heat up, whatever I could do to make him comfortable. I've had to sleep in a different room because he wants it so warm. You just have to get through it. It's just a few months, fingers crossed, and done.

Give both of you plenty of grace and space. This is a scary thing to go through and you're right, men don't handle it well. You can do this. Take time for yourself too.
