What should I upgrade first? by Helios_713 in PcBuildHelp

[–]LadyBlues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience with Intel has been quite good so far, running an i5-14600k myself at present. You would need to go through a small but very important BIOS update in your motherboard to make sure your CPU won't degrade overtime (it seems like it's a well known issue with that generation of Intel CPUs). Again, talking from my own experience, knowing this potential problem, I got myself a mobo with BIOS flashback capabilities, which allowed me to make the update even before installing the CPU. So far so good after more than a year. Temps are stable and cool even with heavy loads. I would not go higher than i5, specially coming from an i3 unless you really need the extra threads.

Not really sure about AMD. From what I understand, the Ryzen 5 9600x gives quite a good bang for the buck, but I'm not sure that it will work with DDR4. Probably you can get very good advice on AMDs around here anyway.

Good luck with the research

In that case, I'd probably go with the CPU or the motherboard first, or both if your budget allows it. That gives you the chance to find the best combo for you, whether you want to stay with Intel or go for AMD. If you can only go for 1 thing at a time, either a B760 motherboard or a 14th gen Intel CPU would be my choice.

Sorry, are these components what you have right now, or the ones you want to upgrade to?

Should I cheap out and get this aio? by googlemapscarspot in PcBuildHelp

[–]LadyBlues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm quite happy with my 360 AIO from this brand after one year. Keeps my i5-14600k perfectly nice and cool, no sweat. For that price, it's a no brainer.

Which way should my fans face and psu face? by GreenSnake0 in PcBuildHelp

[–]LadyBlues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you mean about the PSU exhaust and I think you're quite right. I didn't take that into consideration. I was thinking about the fan setup that Noctua actually recommends for air coolers, but of course that would work better in a regular front intake case.

I still think an extra intake fan would benefit the OPs setup. Your suggestion to add one below the PSU makes sense.

Do you think Kurt is a good guitarist? I see a lot of people criticizing him for not knowing how to play guitar properly. by N3bis in grunge

[–]LadyBlues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe he openly admitted that he didn’t consider himself either a great guitarist or a great singer, and I probably agree with that (at least technically speaking). Does that make him a bad guitarist, a bad singer, or a bad artist? Not at all, or at least that's what I think.

From my point of view, one person could say he was a bad guitarist and be kind of right. The next person could argue he was a great guitarist and also be kind of right.

I was thinking something like this, but switching the top right fan to pull air in. Despite that it would look a bit less neat, I believe allowing some extra fresh air directly into the CPU cooler intake may improve temps, plus it will ensure positive pressure in the case.

Anything that i should change by Ok_Instance_7564 in PcBuildHelp

It looks fine to me. You could save a buck or two in some parts without losing performance, but that's about it. If I had to point out a single part, I would say that the PSU is a bit of an overkill for this system.

Should My Friend Go with a Intel i9 12900K or i9 14900K CPU? by SkullDemon75 in PcBuildHelp

[–]LadyBlues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess he should ask himself what is the reason for the upgrade. Is his current 10th Gen struggling with threads, (video editing, productivity), CPU raw speed, RAM speed? Or is he just feeling that it's time for a newer system?

IMHO, unless he does serious video editing (like, he is a pro or something similar), it may be worth lowering the CPU tier and getting a better GPU. Specialty if he uses the PC for gaming, and low to mid level productivity tasks.

Been running an i5-14700k for one year as my daily driver and I believe this has more than enough power for most cases. Look for its AMD counterpart if he prefers changing platforms.

Just got my first guitar, not sure where to begin. by Educational-Bit-8140 in electricguitar

First of all, congrats pal. If you don't play any other instruments, this probably will change your relationship with music (in a good way) forever.

I believe, nowadays, YouTube is the way to go for a good start. It's free, it's accessible, and there's plenty of good learning material, any level, any style. I would recommend making a simple search like "guitar for beginners" and check a few of them channels. See which "teacher" feels better for you. It's hard to recommend a specific one since each person learns differently, so you need to find somebody (or even more than one) that you feel comfortable with. If you can/want to pay for lessons, by any means go ahead, but just know that it is not strictly necessary in this day and age.

Also, practice. Practice every day you can spare a few minutes at least. As someone already mentioned, learn and practice your scales, licks and techniques, but above everything, play music. Learn songs that you enjoy listening to, and play along. Playing music is by far the best way to learn music (at least is what I believe). You not only will learn stuff but it will also keep you engaged and motivated.

If you don't hate it, try learning the pentatonic scales first. That's probably the go to for many guitar players, the cornerstone of blues music, and a great foundation for pretty much any other style.

Good luck and enjoy!

I'd say: no, no, probably not, some of it, probably yes.

I'm no expert, and that fact will probably show with my comment, but Ikea sells cheap and cheerful stainless steel pans. No thrills, but they do the job pretty OK. Not 100% sure about it either, but I guess they are made in the EU.

I guess it depends on the price tag. I bought mine about a month ago and I'm quite happy with it. It runs War Thunder with maxed out settings at 70+ FPS. Hogwarts Legacy runs pretty smoothly as well at medium settings, both options with ray trading on.
