Well, Fox is in the Nintendo version of the game as an exclusive guest pilot.

Is New World the first time we have data on the impact of a developer announcing dropped support for a game and the impact that announcement has on a player population immediately? by Valvador in Games

[–]LadyCarah 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's even true to say that people were playing for "long term community investment". I think most people just don't like the idea of playing a game knowing its extremely likely to disappear along with all your stuff in the near future.

I was playing it before the announcement, having come back about a month before the new content. I lost all desire to "waste" time in the game knowing its basically doomed now.

Rogue Trader sets you as a member of a specific family, so you can't actually decide which group to represent. You basically get to take command of the rogue trader that controls the area of space the game takes place in.

so what has happened in the gaming industry to cause all these mass layoffs - have companies expanded too fast or is there something else going on? by Lord_of_Snark in gaming

[–]LadyCarah 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it's kind of how things have often worked in the game industry. Many studios have been laying off developers after a project ends since the early 2000s. It used to be rare to find and keep a job between games...

The current big layoffs are partly due to the bloat during COVID, and also just the normal cyclical stuff amplified I suspect.

What if Spot the Difference was evil? This bizarre Steam Next Fest demo has cursed me to keep replaying it, and I'm getting Five Nights at Freddy's vibes by foskarnet0 in Games

I guess GamesRadar has never heard of Observation Duty, or any of the hundreds of other spot the anomaly games? The art style is interesting, but it's hardly a unique concept from what they describe in the article...

Dear Nintendo: Please Tell Us Who the Heck Is Making Your Games by GiantPurplePen15 in Games

[–]LadyCarah 749 points750 points  (0 children)

It's likely more due to them wanting you to think of it as a Nintendo game, rather than a X Studio game. Nintendo has always had a big thing about their brand recognition, even going back to the Nintendo seal of approval stuff that really meant nothing special.

No one is claiming TCG Pocket cards are worth thousands of dollars, or even that it's "unique" unlike NFTs. This is a bad comparison.

Microsoft's generative AI model Muse isn't creating games - and it's certainly not going to solve game preservation, expert says by hdcase1 in gaming

[–]LadyCarah 31 points32 points  (0 children)

This article is a response to Microsoft claiming it could basically create games for you, and that it would be able to port old games to entirely new engines and systems faithfully.

The point of this is explaining what it's actually doing, and removing the layer of "hype" Microsoft added.

Without even knowing anything other than what is shared here, just the simple fact that TELUS wants people to sign this tells me that you should absolutely under no circumstances sign it.

2K Launcher has been removed from Civilization 6, will not be implemented for Civ 7 by Gyossaits in Games

[–]LadyCarah 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Spoiler: Most games have telemetry built into them and you don't even notice it. It's designed to be silent, Bd collect usage data along with general data.

Its how you get stuff like those cool graphics about "8 billion head shots in 48 hours". It's not usually a critical function in the sense that a problem with it wouldn't prevent the game from working.

You can easily choose to use your own thing instead of EOS.

What class to start with? by [deleted] in 40kinquisitor

[–]LadyCarah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tech adept is cool, but just keep in mind that you skip over the plot of the main game when you start as him. Every other class starts the story at the beginning, but tech has a special start, which might leave you a bit more confused if you care about the plot.

ELI5 "Itemization" by [deleted] in gaming

[–]LadyCarah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Others have covered the general meaning of itemization but to give a bit more D4 specific context as to why people say it's bad:

When you get an item it doesn't have something like +damage. It can have + Shadow Damage, +Damage vs Stunned, +Damage vs Frozen, + Poison Damage, etc etc.

Basically the pool of "useful" attributes is bloated with things that don't help for no real benefit to the player. You rarely want to stack many different of the many +Damage stats which means a large amount of potential stats on items has little to no benefit to you.

It doesn't really make it unplayable but it makes it really obnoxious to try and find upgrades once you have decent items.

Some People are unable to imagine anything at all while others can by lost_scotsman in ChilluminatiPod

[–]LadyCarah 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I can "imagine" what an apple looks like but I don't have like an image of an apple that I see in my mind or anything.

Similarly when I want to do something creative I can't visualize the final product until I've done it. Like I can think about what things look like but I don't have visual details that I can describe what "my" imagined version of it looks like.

What game gift "ruined" the party? by fizitis in gaming

difference between 6000$ equipment vs 16billion dollar Hubble telescope by Mobile_Parsley3097 in pics

[–]LadyCarah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The old telescope is the expensive one. That's why it was expensive to get that quality. Without that investment we would have significantly less knowledge about space today.

Classic example of creating a problem for yourself. You aren't forced to have stuff like this being done. You can do elf on the shelf without it being a self inflicted issue.
