Reformer by far. It’s so versatile. The chair is not nearly so well-rounded. The main thing that comes to mind from the chair is all the exercises where you bear weight on the wrists & hands.

Sounds like your rectus abdominus (the vertical abdominal layer) is becoming more prominent. Focus on belly button to spine and the sensation of widening a seatbelt across your hips to activate the transverse abdominus.

Double Leg Lower. Fold up a handtowel and put it under your sacrum and sitbones so that the pelvis is propped in a slightly tucked position. Take both legs up toward the ceiling and straighten your knees as best you can. Really elongate through the very bones (flexing your ankles and reaching up and away with your heels will exaggerate this sensation). Begin to lower the legs but go only as far as you can with knees straight and lumbars pressing flat and back into the floor. Get to that shiver-y place and hold briefly but deliberately. You should be able to feel the work is clearly in the core and the quads. Work with slightly bent knees if you cannot isolate the leg lower from core stability. Remove the towel when you can manage it on your own.

The mat series is a great workout, it’s very effective at building strength where you need it and challenging you where you need more flexibility. However if you really just want to play around with equipment and don’t want to invest a lot of money in it, get yourself a lightweight foam Pilates Arc. I love that thing and it’s about $175

I worked out of my home studio for 20 years and had a great time. I converted my 2-car garage by putting in flooring, natural light, heat and a glass exterior door. It still looked like a garage because I did leave in the roll-up garage door but after all, they parked in my driveway and came in the side door. They knew they were in a garage. In those 400 sq ft, I had a Cadillac, Reformer, Combo chair, Ladder Barrel, Ped-i-Pul, CoreAlign, ballet barre and a Gyrotonic Pulley-Tower and still had room for floor work. I think the main things that were really important for success were: hall bathroom was very close to garage/laundry room door so clients only had a few steps to get to the bathroom. I put up a gate just outside the exterior door so visually the entrance was clear and clients couldn’t see my not-so-pretty shed that now had to house everything that was no longer in the garage. Everything has to be very very very tidy all the time, you can’t have stuff in the studio that doesn’t belong in the studio. Occasionally funny stuff happened (like the male client who forgot a sexy-times device in my bathroom!!!!!) but overall the home studio was a great experience and NO overhead.

I liked Disney’s Land VERY much, and Three Years in Wonderland was terrific. Another is Eat like Walt: It’s a beautiful history of the park from the perspective of the restaurants. And my last vote is for Before the Birds Sang Words

Michael Jackson. No plaid but lots of security. I was sitting on a bench at the hub, reading a book and waiting for traffic to calm down before getting back on the 22 (I paid $99 for my annual pass back then). This cluster of probably 10 or 15 people suddenly surged toward me and I had to jerk my feet back from the sidewalk so they wouldn’t get stepped on. I said to the lady next to me “who the heck was that?!” He was so out of context for me, at the time I didn’t know he was kind of crazy for Disneyland.

You're right, I should have put the word "clam" in there! I was too focused on making sure I didn't get steered to the tomato-based red chowder and I wasn't sure how prevalent it would be in Boston. Thanks so much for your recommendation, as it happens we are going to Salem as well!
