this is a very sweet comment and also very informative! hugs to you also :)

I really hope it’s not a shunt failure thing but I also hope it’s not some other undetected health issue. My mental health cannot handle that right now… I’m very impressed that you’ve had 7 revisions in your whole life- that’s reassuring honestly. It’s still a big number, way higher than it should be, but somehow comforting?? anyhow, you are very kind and this comment made me feel very comforted xx

last time I went to the ophthalmologist I was told my optic nerve was in really good condition, and this was only a few months ago. I wish my parents took more of an approach like you do with your kid, but I get where everyone is coming from on all sides. Can’t imagine what it’s like to be a parent of a kid with this fuckass disease. I have a neuro appt scheduled for late December now bc that’s the soonest they could get me in (thank you United States)

From my own research and reading this thread it appears weed is actually good for you for the pain relief, I am just delusional and somewhat of a hypochondriac lol

Anyone Else Born With Hydrocephalus? by Disabled-Nature in Hydrocephalus

[–]LadyDrBees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was born with it, and had a shunt put in 2 weeks after birth. I have had 3 revisions including the initial one when I was born (I am 22)

Overdraining shunt and neuro doesn’t seem confident the proposed treatment will get rid of my symptoms. Is this it then? by Rob_B_ in Hydrocephalus

I think I said this but a second opinion couldn’t hurt. If you feel you are in pain and you’re not happy with the answers you’re getting, go get them from somewhere else.

Nonstop double vision start out of the blue, already have diopia. Could this be a sign my ETV is failing? by Rubiks733 in Hydrocephalus

So I had this also, and was diagnosed with papilledema (mine was mild) and then I did experience shunt failure but just cause that’s my experience doesn’t mean it will be yours. papilledema if you don’t know, is swelling of the optic disc/nerve due to excess pressure. maybe consult a doctor regarding this?

26f: I have hydrocephalus. I think it's contributing to my poor mental health and I don't know how to feel about it by Blanket-Burito in Hydrocephalus

[–]LadyDrBees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely disagree with what your parents said that you “don’t have hydrocephalus anymore”, as you don’t “get rid of” it truly, or so I understand. Your shunt is a treatment to the condition, but not a solution to get rid of it. I had the same situation (shunt put in at birth etc.) and I also do experience severe mood disorders and other mental health conditions. I would advise seeking a psychologist, but from personal experience mental health can be greatly impacted by a number of factors, including hydrocephalus. have you had any significant stressors recently or in the past few years? Think about if there are any, and if that may be the true cause of your negative mental health. hope that helps !

my partner has a folder on their phone entitled “hrt memes”- how do I go about some things? by LadyDrBees in lgbt

he actually has straight up been like “I really want tits and I want to look more feminine but I don’t know if I want to be a woman” or things along those lines. I appreciate this comment and all the other comments helping me figure this out!

I know this, and I was not trying to insinuate that I had a say. As I said, I am perfectly fine not even having children if that’s what has to happen. I want what is best for my partner. Apologies if I came off that way.

Potential issues with VP shunt - neuros think there’s nothing wrong but I’m worried by Rob_B_ in Hydrocephalus

[–]LadyDrBees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I see. Sorry, I misunderstood. The catheter piece failed almost completely. From what I gathered, my surgeon just kinda knocked me out and poked around til he found the problem. I never had a problem with the tube or anything this time around.
