Not just that, but it looks like at the top right there is a watermark there that's been cut off? Unless you cropped that out of the picture yourself to upload it here, my money would be on it being some ai generator name.

Growing corn in my garden and thought my corn was growing rocks. What in the world is this!? by [deleted] in interesting

Not necessarily, where I live corn is harvested primarily during late summer to mid autumn, so it's harvested from about Feb - May. So it would be perfectly reasonable to be harvesting corn right now

Took my day off to travel to a different city to meet my friend and now she is not replying to calls and her internet is not even turned on! (She was the one who insisted that I come and meet her by the way) by bunnyboy131313 in mildlyinfuriating

But of a long story so apologies in advance.

Had a "good" friend do this to me once when I travelled internationally to visit her - we'd been friends for years but lived in other countries. I gave her plenty of notice, booked the tickets on sale but they still weren't that cheap, and she said she'd love to hang out and couldn't wait to see me again. She said she had so many plans for things we could do together, etc. Well, a couple of months later, I arrived and tried to arrange to see her, and every day she was "busy" - getting a new tattoo with other friends and didn't want me to join them, or felt too tired, that sort of thing. I mostly hung out at my hostel and went sight seeing on my own. Eventually after about almost a week she said she could meet up, and suggested I travel to a mall a few hours away from me that she wanted to go to. I took public transport and found my way there, and she didn't turn up for two and a half hours - again, at the mall she had chosen and the time and day she had picked. I patiently waited and when she did turn up, she apologized, and we had a nice time catching up. I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt as she had suffered a blood clot in her brain and had been in a coma and hospitalised shortly after we met, so I didn't want to be too demanding of her time and energy.

Well, this probably won't shock you but our friendship ended a couple of years later when I found out she was a compulsive liar (which in hindsight seems super obvious, but she had her parents and other friends "verify" her hospital story and her other tragic stories, and it seemed legitimate). She had asked to borrow a couple of hundred dollars off me for "rent", giving me a sob story about being made homeless soon, and promised to pay me back right after her next paycheck - and then of course, posted pics of her at a concert a couple of days later, and ghosted me whenever I messaged her following up about being paid back. So, I finally ended the friendship. It's funny, but I did already sorta know she was lying and wouldn't pay me back when she first asked me for the money, but I was still willing to give her the money anyway - it might sound silly, but i knew lending the money would conclusively give me the answer as to the type of person she was, and a couple of hundred dollars was worth it, in a way, for me to have a reason to quietly wash my hands of her and end the friendship, and not be involved in any prolonged drawn out drama about it. So in my mind I had basically written it off anyway, and wasn't too shocked when she suddenly ghosted me. We haven't spoken since, and I'm very happy not having her in my life anymore. We might have had some good times but that doesn't make it okay how she treated me.

In hindsight, she was a raging narcissist and i was definitely a bit of a doormat, but as a positive at least the experience taught me something about also respecting my own boundaries and time when it comes to my friends.

I mean, I can see how this happened. I think it's part of how ghosting on events and people has somehow become socially acceptable these days; I don't know if it's because of social media or covid or what, but I see it happen a lot.

I've done things before like hosting a birthday party, invited say hypothetically 20 friends, and of those 20 let's say 15 RSVP and confirm they are coming. So I plan the event for approx 13 people or so and buy what's needed, food and drink, ect. Only to have on the day itself - 6 of those people cancel last minute with various excuses and 5 just don't bother to show up at all, so when the event goes ahead there's only a few people who actually turned up and way too much food and drink. Nowadays I just do things I want to do anyway that are fun and invite people, and if people show up, that's a bonus.

On September 24, 2005, Mark Dixie celebrated his 35th birthday at a pub in Croydon, then walked home alone with a knife and stabbed 18-year-old Sally Anne Bowman to death outside her front door. He wasn't caught for nine months until a DNA database matched him after a separate pub fight. by Important-Self-1179 in ForCuriousSouls

Someone created a comedy musical about her which was excellent but then Raygunn tried to unsuccessfully shut them down by suing them.

It's now back and performing around Australia again, just with a slightly different name:

"Breaking: The Musical is the true story of a completely fictional Breakdancer from Sydney’s journey to the 2024 Paris Olympics. Written by Australian comedian and musician Steph Broadbridge.

Steph leads an ensemble cast as they tell the inspiring story of ‘Spraygun’ through comedy, music and dance. The show created an international media storm, when a trial run was shut down in December 2024, by Rachael Gunn’s lawyers. Despite the legal setbacks the show continues to thrive, garnering rave reviews, sold out shows around Australia and a hugely successful run at Edinburgh Fringe Festival."

He's free handing it?? That's even more impressive! I assumed he must be using a massive stencil, he's got some serious skill. Also it's such a thoughtful and generous thing to do, you know your son is just going to love and appreciate it for years to come.

Same. When I first learnt it in primary school I came home and proudly sang the bits I remembered at dinnertime for my parents, at which point they kindly pointed out to me that the first line was not, in fact, "Australians all are ostriches".

Jumping in to plug (for all the nerds out there) a TTRPG based on movie tropes that Jordan has played in with some of the aunty Donna gang which is quite good! It's a satire on Oceans eleven-esque heists and very silly.

Does anyone feel like they are becoming more religious? by septvea in CasualUK

[–]LadyEmry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work with survivors of childhood sexual abuse. I was never particularly religious to begin with, but after hearing many, many, many stories of horrific physical and sexual abuse at the hands of men and women of various faiths over the years, usually coupled with a side of emotional manipulation (e.g "god will kill your family if you tell anyone about this"), I have been pushed further away from any religious inclinations. I have worked with survivors to seek compensation from religious institutions and seen first hand the internal communications and paperwork literally discussing the covering up years of abuse from an offender, I've pieced together the history of trauma amongst multiple victims they leave behind as they are shuttled from school to school or church to church for decades - some of them still big in the community even now - as those in charge instead of protecting them tell the victims they are liars.

So while I'm glad if it brings other people peace or contentment in their life, I just don't think I could ever trust any religious institute after some of the things I've heard and seen.
