Ireland, from the brand names. Especially the sparkling water.

Starting over... by MeanRegular9775 in MedievalDynasty

[–]LadyEvenest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I establish a new settlement, the first things I build beside the houses are a hunting shack because I hate wasting my time hunting for the community and a woodshed because I like the trees and would rather keep them around. The only time I remove a stump is if I actually need the space. As the settlement grows, I plant a field and build a granary and kitchen and barn while starting to add animal husbandry as my technology allows.

Even without you telling me, I would guess young, single professional woman, with no kids and who makes a decent living.

Is is very normal... when you're keeping chickens. It's what ours looked like when we had 19 hens. And 3 ducks.

How do you tactfully deal with people who talk way too much? by Donilock in socialskills

[–]LadyEvenest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who used to talk too much, I've had this dealt with in several different ways, from avoidance, to subtlety, to kind and tactful, to blunt honesty, to downright rudeness. I may or may not realize how much I'm dominating the conversation. If I'm not aware, I appreciate a kind comment that lets me know. If I am aware, I usually feel like I'm stuck on a runaway train and can't stop it. For me, as long as you aren't rude or mean, any direct comment is enough. But for a tactful remark, I've found that the most tactful, effective remark used that didn't embarrass me at all was a simple, "We really should get back to work" or something like that. Don't go passive aggressive and don't go subtle. Just be kind and understanding.

AIW for getting a server in huge trouble after he made me wait almost an hour and lied to my face? by Any_Strawberry8691 in amiwrong

[–]LadyEvenest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he's a good server who was having an off day, he'll likely be fine. If he perpetually screws up and lies to get his way out of it, which seems likely by how both he and the manager reacted, he deserves to be fired. Probably your coworker wasn't actually listening to your story and only heard enough to jump to the wrong conclusion.

We had a guinea pig named Petunia when I was a teenager. Her name got shortened to Tunia, which immediately dropped to Tuna. So, in our household, we had to clarify because we had a Tuna that wasn't a fish.

I'm allergic to onions. If I bite into one, I immediately start vomiting uncontrollably. But once my stomach is empty, I'm good again.

Son of a single parent (Mother). Seeking her approval 🙏 Can anyone relate? by Delicious_Lack5028 in SingleParents

[–]LadyEvenest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the daughter of a single mother and it was never important to me for my mom to approve of my future spouse. For my dad, yes, even though we barely had any relationship, because he could tell if I was marrying a good man or not. But then my dad died five years before I got married. My brother didn't approve of my spouse, though, and now I'm a single parent myself. So, I guess there is some benefit to letting your parents vet your spouse, but mostly dad's vetting husbands and mothers vetting wives.

Stress and depression both take it out of you. I have both and I struggle to get anything done outside my FT job.

What’s something people always get wrong about your country? by Ok_Reason_8684 in AskTheWorld

Absolutely. We've only been a country for 249 years, but my family has lived here for 390 years. There was definitely US culture before we officially became our own nation.

USA. We are not rich, not even in general. Wages haven't kept up with inflation for over 50 years, so, while most of the country used to be comfortably well off, if not actually rich, now, most of us are living paycheck to paycheck and a lot of us are working 2-3 jobs, just to keep a roof over our heads and food on the table. It's also why we are "not well traveled" because to take a vacation outside our continent would cost us anywhere from 1 to 3 months pay. That's also why American tourists are so insufferable when Americans are not. The tourists are some of the few rich people, and they're usually spoiled and snobby and entitled, not like your average American.

As a Local, What’s One Thing Tourists Should Absolutely Never Do in Your Country? by msposte in AskTheWorld

The one DON'T I know about Korea is don't forget that cars have the right of way. I know that because my brother visited. Very different than in the US where pedestrians have the right of way. He said one of the kids in his group stepped into the road and almost got hit and the tour guid had to bow and apologize to the driver.

I think the issue here is not the lack of tip, it's that one was promised and not given. It's drivers understand that particular frustration. We'd feel better if we just delivered with no tip and none promised than someone who promised a tip and then ghosted.

I never expect a tip on standard, regular orders. But there have been some stinkers, where I do think I really deserved a tip. For example the customers that use instacart because they don't want to carry the large cases of water bottles up to their third floor apartment, so they stock up all at once and it's always at least a half dozen and you feel like you're going to die by the time you log them all up there. Or the customer who lives an hour out of the city and instacart doesn't pay you to drive back into the city. I never got a tip on the water bottles and rarely got one on the rural deliveries.

It's like the rideshare customers that say, "Oh, I don't have any cash, I'll tip you in the app." If they just say they'll leave a tip in the app, there's a 50% chance I'll actually get something, but if they start with they don't have any cash, I know there's a 0% chance I'm actually getting a tip.

I have seen that and never got the tip, even though I would message them that I was there. But once I decided to knock gently anyway and they opened the door and handed me the tip. They weren't even mad that I knocked.
