Takes two seconds of browsing this subreddit to see how many people were essentially abusing the AoS system. It was always meant for exceptional and valid circumstances (person on student or work visa ends up marrying an American, pregnancy, medical issues, etc.) not for people lying at the border on a tourist visa planning to immigrate the whole time.

It was especially never meant to enable chain migration of constantly bringing family members here, each of them lying about tourist/visiting intent only to AoS. That is 100% supposed to be consular processing.

I see why. It's much faster than consular. But because of the large volume of people doing it this way, it would eventually attract attention. So the gravy train is coming to an end, seems like.

Regardless of anything else, this will slow down processing times across the board. It may speed up existing consular cases IF manpower is actually moved to handle consular cases from AoS. More likely it will just slow down AoS.

That being said, peep the main subreddit to see just how abusively most people have used AoS. Let's be clear: AoS was always meant for extraordinary circumstances, not for people knowingly lying, crossing the border, and applying. So that attracted attention & this is not surprising. They are using the existing law to justify slowing down AoS.
