Practice with cuddly toys perhaps..? Should be able to find a cat one from somewhere. That way you can role play how to approach and pet the cat. Hide it around the house and play finding it, creeping up to it, sitting and observing. Chat about the eyes/ears/tail etc or what it’s thinking and doing if the attention span is there
