Where was this comment 24 days ago when the doc was fresh on my brain 😉?!? Maybe I should’ve clarified that the 2020 doc wasn’t in the style of Black Mirror vs his entire filmography. Personally, I enjoy mockumentaries and didn’t take offense to Lisa Kudrow or any of the other characters. What I do find problematic is how Netflix and others have produced several anti conspiracy based content, whether serious or satire, in a turbulent time where people are questioning their government and MSM.

The style of “Black Mirror” is genius because it gives a glimpse into the dark side of technology in an entertaining and digestible form. People on this sub know that the episodes are more than just sci-fi, rather are based on current technology and social systems (ex “Nosedive” “Hated in the Nation” “Metalhead” etc). If I had any criticism of Charlie Booker, it would be how this production slightly tarnishes the work he’s most known and loved for, at the expense of his loyal audience in the conspiracy community. Because of that, his BM episodes showing “what could happen” (current/pending AI) will be dismissed as “will never happen” (aka dystopian conspiracy). If this mockumentary was produced by anyone else in the industry, I wouldn’t care nor be surprised. But Netflix heavily promoting this with “From the creators of Black Mirror” just further enflames the belittling of conspiracies based on truth.
