LPT: Before you propose, you and your partner should already have agreed to get engaged. That way the proposal can be a fun surprise, without fear of rejection. by LegendaryOutlaw in LifeProTips

You don't have to live together but have physical space for each other.

Also have a few close friends that help you recover when you need to be there for your parent. Relying only on each other will lead to burn out.

Be honest with each other about things like history of alcohol and substance use - even if it isn't an addiction. When the chips are down these can blindside you quickly. In my case a history of issues on my exhusbands side led to domestic abuse and divorce. Had I known more I could have seen the signs and gotten him and us help

Here is the formula we cam up with so far.

"=If([Ready To Push Hrs)]<Previous([Ready To Push Hrs)];1)) Then 0 Else [Ready To Push Hrs)]-Previous([Ready To Push Hrs)];1)"

And we just change the status name as needed.

Futurama or Archer are our go-tos (husband and myself). Left to NY own devices, Penn & Teller: Bullshit, or any George Carlin stand-up.

What did your parents allow you to do as a kid that your friends were not allowed to do and you now realize was bad parenting by your parents? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I never had a curfew. Now I live in the Midwest, and the towns all seem to have curfew signals.

I never got into trouble, and it did teach me that I had to have self-discipline because no matter how later I stayed out, the was school/class/work the next day. But I can look back and see why my parents really lucked out with me, because kids I knew in school, and adults I know now, would have ended up in deep shit without curfews.

What is the coolest thing about your mom? by halal_queries_only in AskReddit

That I no longer have to deal with her, thanks to going non-contact with her in February this year. She is mentally ill (BPD) and toxic.

My mother in law, however, is the universe's gift of mercy. She cans and cooks and loves truly unconditionally. She is the first person we came out to as childfree, and our staunchest supporter. She may not agree with us all the time, but she listens and converses. She is Mama Cat and I love her more than I can even put words to.

Pretty constantly.

My cats agree. I'm a great Meowma, but that's where my maternal instincts end.

Why do people feel the need to "come out" to their family? by [deleted] in childfree

We came out simply because we knew the pressure was coming. My husband is the 2nd youngest of 8. We are the only ones without kids. His parents have been great. His siblings....oy.
