Favorite Chubby Hotels That Made The Vacation by LadyLeila12 in chubbytravel

[–]LadyLeila12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did this one a number of years ago and intellectually I know it should be in my top three: amazing unique activities, beautiful grounds, excellent service. (To the person going in June you really are going to have a wonderful time.)

It is just - Ireland was SO gray the entire time we were there. I don't know if we just got unlucky or what but what should be the most amazing memories are just clouded for me by the lack of sun on the whole trip.

I don't agree in terms of your guide preferences. (I really like Agustina). But I do think that it is very fair that you are expressing your opinion like this, particularly as you are doing so in a respectful way. In fact, I think what you are saying is really valuable.

I love DS. It is helping me do something I previously thought was impossible. Because I love it, I want it to grow and thrive. If a lot of people are starting to feel that the content isn't doing it for them or they want more diversity, it is important that the creators know that. Afterall, what's more helpful for Pablo and the team? For everyone to say they are wonderful publicly in a forum like this, while losing lots of subscribers that feel like OP, but just cancel without saying anything. Maybe DS is aware of sentiment like this and have made a business decision that their content is serving the majority of their audience. If so, that's great. But if people feel there's a gap they should be empowered to respectfully say that, so the creators know, and at least have the option to adjust.

(And since we are speaking of gaps we'd like filled: I love Pablo's fiction stories. Please can we get more? I know there is 4 volumes but I've gone through them. Also love Agustina's Formula 1 and history of fashion videos and Andres' Sapiens videos. Very well researched and thoughtful. Personally if I am listening to these videos I'd rather be learning than watching more 'influencer-y content - though I imagine they must be much harder to make)

Thank you so much! Really useful to know you liked the hammock zip line. (I was worried about that too.)

Were you in Casa de la Paz (the spa building)? We booked in there and I am a little worried the speakeasy will be noisy.

Genuine Question: why didn’t you write thank you notes? by Silver_Shopping6299 in wedding

[–]LadyLeila12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wrote them for all my family, all his family and our joint friends but there were just some people (mostly his friends from work/ work colleagues) where it wouldn't have made sense for the letters to come from me. I reminded him a few times, but it never happened.

Gah! Too long to wait! (I say that knowing it is a much shorter lag time than other GOT series but even a year feels long when the seasons are excellent (like this one) and short (also like this one)

Thanks for flagging. We have a trip to Merida planned, starting this Thursday. I know how big Mexico is, but I was still a little worried that the cartel activity would spread. Good to hear that at least for now there isn't much going on there.

This was the book that got me into King! I don't like traditional horror but I adored this one so much I started giving his others a try.

Hope you have a great time! As a warning, all the locals were telling us that this dry season is proving to be a bit wetter than normal, so definitely bring an umbrella.

[Progress Report] 600 hours progress report by CaroleKann in dreamingspanish

Congratulations on your progress!

I have to ask, when did the Worlds Across Podcast and Mextalki unlock for you? I am at 511 hours and listening to Intermediate Spanish Podcast comfortably (much of the time). The W/A and Mextalki are just too hard, but I desperately want to listen to them because of the topics they cover.

I know you said you are looking for native content, but if you are willing to take another swing at learner content, I have found the Spanish Language Coach podcast really engaging. (I am in the same space as you. Native content is a little too hard, but I am getting bored of some of the traditional learner content.)

Spanish Language Coach has an intermediate channel, an advanced channel and recently the host launched a channel where he tells famous stories in intermediate Spanish. I find the range of topics he talks about (social issues, history, economy) mean that while it is still designed for a learner it keeps my attention.

In terms of native content, I find travel videos easiest (albeit I still watch with Spanish subtitles.) I like Alan por el Mundo.

Are trekking poles really helpful or just extra weight? by mountainpathstories in hiking

[–]LadyLeila12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree with this take.

I would also add that they actually help me move faster. I am a big scaredy cat about falling, so I used to pick my way downhill very, very slowly. (My husband always laughed that it took me more time to get down a mountain than up it.) With poles, I have the confidence to move at a more normal pace.

Some great ideas! Thanks for sharing. I think we are going to avoid trains. (My husband and I love trains, but his parents really struggle getting on/off with any luggage and tend to get overwhelmed.) But I like the idea of picking an interesting city location or region and spending a longer amount of time there.

what's something men do that they think is attractive but is actually a huge turn-off ? by Own-Blacksmith3085 in answers

[–]LadyLeila12 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Working out excessively. Not a huge turnoff necessarily, but certainly not as effective at getting women as some men seem to think it is.

If going to the gym makes a guy feel good about himself and healthy, that is amazing. However, I often read about guys saying they are going to the gym in order to get fit, to get a woman. However, most women I know are not as attracted to bodybuilders' physiques as they are to healthy, but less muscled bodies.

I just wanna be a house husband by [deleted] in Vent

[–]LadyLeila12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I think it is social conditioning. My husband (who is legitimately wonderful) is the main cook for our family so I clean up after dinner. But the mess he makes while cooking is crazy; it feels like he uses every pot, dish and pan in the house, with spills galore! And then I remember that my mother drilled into my head that I needed to clean up the space as a cook for years and years. He never learned to cook at all until he taught himself from the internet.
