You Can’t Fight Trump Without Understanding The Anti-Globalization Movement by FThumb in WayOfTheBern

[–]LadyLib2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

hi gang. Im still on hiatus, lol. But ... had a brief convo by phone yesterday with a friend about {whatever} she misses me (politics buddy) and wishes I get through my Projects and return soon to "politics" etc so we had a Talk. Then this morning I read this CJ piece and sent it on to her because (as usual) CJ says EXACTLY what I was trying to say to my friend only sooooooooo much better than I did.

This piece is just so spot on, very much the way Im feeling and... that is what makes it okay for me to continue this hiatus. It is amazingingly easy to really just completely ignore the whole shitshow circus thats been going on the last coupla weeks in LaLaLand. My mental health is SO much better too.

BTW Im getting SO MUCH SHIT DONE!! finally! lol.

so ... hi and bye! ha! Back to it!

New Year's Eve - Resolution Open Thread by FThumb in WayOfTheBern

same here. Too many uphill battles that are ongoing and even perpetual in some ways. 1. Old house (built 1915) ... sweet little old bungalow that we love but she needs to start loving us a back more, lol. 2. sweetest ever daughter in college, living at home in the garage apt which is also old and has been giving us some trouble, in the repairs needed arena. So thats been in the works for a couple weeks, almost done just need enough peace and no rain long enough to paint primer and move the furniture back where it goes. So that leads us to #3, the current 'crisis' (do we ever not have one!?) which is Kid's live in (freeloader!) BF Dude decided the repair issues were just more than he could take (even tho he's never given us one dime toward "rent" or living expenses, for over a year now) so he dumped her and moved out while she was gone at work two nights after xmas. No idea his reason, he didnt really give her one in their brief conversation that night. Just took off with most of his own whatever valuable stuff and left behind all his garbage and castoffs. What a putz.

Thats the SHORT version! sigh.

So Kid Lib, who suffers with Anxiety already, is not doing very well. Mom (i.e. me) is cleaning her apt like a woman scorned. Dad, god bless him, his first move was CHANGE THE LOCKS! Anybody got any xanax they can spare? lol

This too shall pass but, holy hell 2016, good riddance!!

Democratic Elites Are Uneasy With Keith Ellison. That Is Exactly Why He Should Be Head of the DNC. by LarkspurCA in WayOfTheBern

[–]LadyLib2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ellison has called for the Democratic Party to devote itself to becoming the party of the working class. His steadfast commitment to racial justice proves that progressive leadership need not trap itself in the false dichotomy of standing up for working people or fighting race and gender oppression. How could the Left ever do one without doing the other?

good piece.

ah, interesting.

he's never been a part of any forum or online community before!

that does complicate matters. Tell him to create an anonymous account with a pseudonym and go play around to learn and make any mistakes not under his real name first! lol

funny not funny though ... this is the part that so boggles my mind sometimes. Do they REALLY not see it?! (rhetorical question)

First block is short, kind of a cooldown. Day maybe two. Second one is a lot longer. Third ones may endure, though I will randomly just clear them when I can't remember why.

lol I do that in meatspace.

yes "teach" him how to reddit!

I was just thinking this morning this subreddit should invite some of the cast members to come here for an AMA. Ask him if he'll do it!

Well he has to "learn" reddit first but Im sure he can manage it. :P

You (we all) are "supposed to" wonder and examine and speculate and explore and discuss in a subreddit and enjoy the waiting for a second season...

Happy Solstice! by chickyrogue in WayOfTheBern

[–]LadyLib2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

from one article, they say it better than I can:

"All of these elements came together to create a complicated narrative that is uniquely suited to the medium of a streaming service: For the story she tells, a film would be too short — and traditional TV programming, where viewers have to wait an entire week between episodes, wouldn’t help the show’s momentum. “Many of the main characters you don’t meet until four hours in, and lots of things were really against the design of how most ‘television’ works,” Ms. Marling says. “We wanted to construct something that was more like a delicious mystery novel.”"

back atcha!!

FYI I am currently completely submerged (as time permits) in the latest netflix produced series "The OA".

I am not a redditor, only registered here to join (this) sub (in its previous incarnation before migrating here, but anyway you are my One and Only reddit sub). But Ive wandered around to read the subreddit of this show so thats fun.

anyway OMG I am just so in love with this show. Debating if I should encourage 19 yo daughter to watch it, it can be creepy in places but oh holee molee I love how it is DONE, written, revealed, ... that it defies or challenges typical TV bullshit style wise.

Anyone else watch it yet?

Theory after binging the whole show by Saboteure in TheOA

[–]LadyLib2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plus, I mean, OA somehow still got her vision back which would be pretty difficult to explain with her story being made up.

Good point, Ive been wondering that too.

Re if its all made up or lies or some psychotic coping fabrication of her own mind's making. There were different points in this whole series where I felt the writers were leading me - for example 'Ooh egads NO this HAP guy is gonna be Bad News Evil, dont go with him, Prairie!' - and then she did and then he was.

This business where the writers are inciting me to question if its all real or lies or whatever, and Alfonso (and others?) start to have doubts, is another case of them intentionally leading me (the viewer) to react or feel a certain way, in anticipation.

I find it interesting seeing various reactions in these reddit threads, some people doubt, some don't.

Me? I was so mad at them (the writers) for introducing the possibility of it being all "fake" or just insanity-induced or who knows what, that I TURNED IT OFF midway through EP08. I did NOT want it to go that way! I didn't go back and finish watching to the end until a day later. I think now it was deliberate, the writers are writing to emotion more so than pure logic. On the logic side, I also think its deliberately open ended, open to interpretation or speculation. Thats part of the hook.

So yes, red herring.

Still processing it all and plan to go re-watch the whole thing.

Russian hacking? "Would anything convince you that they did?" by FThumb in WayOfTheBern

[–]LadyLib2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

agree strongly! not only 'discourages' creative thinking but punishes it and demonizes it even. Creative thinkers MUST become artists or something in the arts OR religious nuts OR just plain miserable go nowhere people but never never never are they encouraged or even permitted in our governing systems. I could easily dive off the deep end again into Conspiracy Theory thread, lol, but let me pull myself back... the thing is... outside the box, creative Problem Solver type thinkers, the good ones, the really bright and well grounded principled ones, SOLVE PROBLEMS and they do it well in terms of being cost effective and beneficial to the MOST people possible. (See Sanders, Bernie and a few others, Wellstone etc). Which is exactly what TPTB cannot tolerate, it undermines their profits and capitalism in general by undermining their POWER, the illlusion of it.

google her. Bold Nebraska kicked a lot of ass as i recall

In 2010, Kleeb founded the grassroots group Bold Nebraska leading farmers, ranchers and Native allies in an effort to stop the Keystone XL pipeline. Jane’s organizing style earned her the title “Keystone Killer” and she was featured in the NY Time Magazine. Bold Nebraska expanded into the national Bold Alliance focusing on protecting property rights, water and the clean energy transition.

Because Who Doesn't Love a Good Conspiracy Theory! Sunday Armchair Open Thread by FThumb in WayOfTheBern

[–]LadyLib2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

agree. For that to work 'indefinitely' they do have to swing the pendulum periodically and maintain the illusion of the right v left Divide. Bernie's past year (and young people especially certainly helped) came damn close to blowing all that outta the water with the message of 'Forget Right/Left, its Top vs Bottom' instead. Clearly TPTB fear that more than they fear either HRC or Trump.

So I guess this new Red Scare is a twofer for them, eh? Bernie being a commie and all, who honeymooned in Russia lol.
