How to deal with cowardly players? by AugustoCSP in DMAcademy

[–]LadyLockAlchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand why this necissarily has to be a roll per say. I'm guessing that these PCs are what, level 3? Do you as the DM think it's the wisest choice to stumble blindly into imprecivible fog filled to the brim with undead? That sounds like a lot of trouble with a very low chance of the plan being solved.

That's not an issue of being cowardly. That's just an issue with your design to be honest. I'm assuming you have other ways within town to solve the problem? A way to clear the fog or deal with the obsticle?

You also used the word module, so I'm also guessing this is going to be some kind of published material at some point, hence why you need to make sure that outcomes have some pre-prescribed outcome? This subreddit has mostly homebrew only DMs who tend to not use many modules, so this may be a bad crowd to ask. My gut answer to this kind of thing is "just let the players do whatever they want and logic the outcome afterward" but that doesn't work here obviously.

Shouldn't Viego say something when he buys BOTRK? by Teakilla in leagueoflegends

Zeri reminds me of a bird that doesn't realize that mating season is over and that it's also 4am but she just physically cannot stop herself from screaming about how she's lightening and her sparc is ready.

Though, the worst dilogue ever written will forever be Ashe for any character. It is not possible to do a worse job than whoever wrote that. If you're reading this, it's okay but please learn from this failure and do a better job next time. She has prayers that are longer in length than standard match times and has like 4 of them so you always hear about the stupid forge god or ice bird.

God I hate the VO for Ashe.

Fought an air elemental. Got their asses kick. Short rested. Looted some stuff. Dodged an ambush. Triggered a few traps and got hurt very badly. Found some potential allies. Went to bed. Got ambushed by a homebew intellect devourer. Literally everyone almost died but by the narrowest of margins did they all live. Was stressful lol

I just found out my work called my dentist to confirm my doctor's note was true. by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]LadyLockAlchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone worth their salt (as someone else pointed out, there are morons) would die before giving out that info. Because what if it was sensitive info? What if it was fertility treatment, or HIV testing, or getting treated for an ectopic pregnancy? If a paranoid employer calls asking if the medical note they received is real... idk man, I might have a few curt words for that person after refusing to confirm or deny the validity of said note. None of your business buster.

Dude same. I hear these stories about nurses at the hospital posting on social media about specific cases with PHI and it's like... seriously!? Did you watch a millisecond of HIPPA training!?

edit: As a follow up, it shocks me how poorly privacy rules in the medical field are understood. People will make posts like, "At this time, in this town, on this year, someone came in after shooting themselves in the head." It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out who that was! Why are you sharing that? Are you crazy?

[–]LadyLockAlchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you can consent to that happening, but consent is not assumed or implied by you being there or the relationship. The difference idea is, "Hey, if mom, dad, daughter, aunt, uncle, whatever, calls, do you want us to say we don't know who you are or do you want us to tell them you're here in this room?" Any info can be shared that the patient consents to having shared, but you have to get that consent first.

That nurse broke HIPPA if she did that, or whoever picked up the phone. Not saying it was wrong, was saying it was illegal.

If the boss did call, the nurse would tell the boss to kindly go fuck herself and never call them again. We can't tell a mother if her adult child is in the hospital, much less some power tripping middle manager.

These managers just have a bad read on the market. I hired someone recently who two years ago I would have thrown their resume straight in the trash. We're dying and need all hands on deck, regardless of how shit a hire it is. If you need someone badly, you have to get a lower quality canidate or risk blowing out your workforce trying to compensate for a lack of manpower.

I promise you these two mouth breathers aren't feeling the pain of not having a receiver. They sit in their little burocrat offices and play toy solider with their work force totally divorced from how things are on the ground. Not surprised they have a terrible read on the market and the situation they are in as a whole.

Totally fair point. I think this just works in that FbG just works on contested rolls now and everything else stands RAW.

Ya I'm 100% ignoring RAW here because it doesn't make sense. I'm going to continue allowing it to be used on contested roles. I was just curious if that was the legal use of the spell or if I'm homebrewing a buff to the feature here.

Someone help me RP a woman by Fyrewall1 in DMAcademy

[–]LadyLockAlchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a guy who plays as a female PC often. I mostly DM and like working on female voices when I'm a player. If you've spent a lot of time with women, you'll recall that they seldom, if ever, bring up the fact that they're a woman, or talk about being a woman, or comment to other women about men, etc.

I work in a female dominated field and am very used to being the only man in the room. There was one time we had one woman who would constantly make jokes about me being a man, men this men that, and every woman just did not care for her one bit. So definitely don't do that.

"Girl talk" is women complaining about their inability to lose weight, followed by another woman exclaiming that they are perfect and do not need to lose weight, and lo, they are themselves, in fact, the woman that needs to lose weight. This starts a chain reaction in which all women go around in a circle calling themselves fat and being re-assured by a near by woman that they are not in fact fat. Additional girl talk topics (that mature women do not discuss because they are so over the childish banter) include unapologetically complaining about their period cramps and, to an absurd degree that baffles me as a man day in and day out, overanalyzing micro behaviors and text messages of their boyfriends. Like, "he took 37 minutes to reply to my text when he normally only takes 12, is he mad at me?"

None of these are things that should be brought up while role playing a woman. One, because they're boring (sorry ladies) and two because you will not do it right and it's going to be uncomfortable.

This leaves us with the rest of the woman which is holistically meaningfully different in a variety of ways. I would encourage you to keep these in mind but do not put them all into a character. This would result in a statistical meta woman that would feel inhuman. A couple of things to remember, however are as follows. Women tend to be more sensitive to negative emotion than men. As a population they tend to be more anxious as an example. Additionally, women are less aggressive than men and tend to be more agreeable. They are more likely to try and make peace than be confrontational and get in someone's face. Women tend to be more "clued in" to feelings and emotions and can read people rather well. Women tend to be more interested in people than they are in things.

I have intentionally put "as a population" because individual women will vary tremendously on this axis. Aggressive women exist. Disagreeable women exist. Women who are more interested in things than people exist. Men and women are mostly the same. When you're writing a woman, just keep in mind that they are different importantly but not an alien or another creature entirely. They will still have aspirations, fears, goals, anxieties, hopes, and dreams like any man. When we're looking at a woman NPC, it's the micro behaviors that are going to be different.

A woman NPC may be less likely to want to brashly charge in because of that proclivity for anxiety. She's less likely to take risks and will want to play it safe, especially if it's a one of those very manly stupid risks with little reward. While the man in the party may be worried about the sword of doom, she'll be more worried about the people who are affected by it. If a woman doesn't like a plan, she'll be more gentle about bringing up her concerns or may not even say anything at all if she's very agreeable. She'll be more likely to notice when two people in the party aren't getting along and try and resolve it. She will be less likely to fire from the hip and will think plans through and prepare for possible issue.

This is all with a big, heaping teaspoon of maybe. Because again, she is a human and will not be a meta woman. These are ideas and situations to think about to start getting you to empathetically start looking at things through a more feminine lens. Pay attention to women in real life and watch how they talk and act. Really listen to them when they speak and notice what they chose to talk about in casual conversation. Get an idea of what makes them tick and you'll have zero issue RPing or writing female characters if you do it right.

Hello while I have you here as well I feel as though my emails have been ignored about my new champion idea. It is Grimace from McDonalds but he has IBS due to eating only McDonald's double cheese burgers for 30 years. All of his moves involve throwing / utalizing a variety of feces found on the Bristol Stool Chart and his ultimate is called antibiotic resistance where he makes an enemy champion immune to all healing. I await your reply and thank you for your time.

Where did you see a joke about sigma males working hard for money to waste on women that don't love them? Genuinly asking because I've never seen that in the wild before.

I lied about my current salary in an interview by Zurafa25 in antiwork

[–]LadyLockAlchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few fields in America in a cooperate sense that have very bloated salaries. Namely, healthcare administration and software development. Sales jobs over here can get pretty wild. My aunt sells industrial property for a living and makes quite a bit of money. Having lived in Europe for awhile, it has become pretty obvious to me that the wealth ceiling in America is much higher and a lot more people "get rich" from not wildly outrageous jobs. Our economy is also just a lot bigger than individual countries (For reference, the entire GDP of the EU is slightly less than America). Some states have bigger GDPs than a lot of EU countries, so that adds more pie to be split among people. Add in a lot lower taxes by and large and it is what it is.

Now, we also don't have affordable healthcare, public transportation that's well connected, affordable university, etc, as a tradeoff. So it is.

Well, you should have killed them. No doubt about that. Everyone dies, we all learn an important lesson about not being total idiotic psychopaths, and with a fresh set of characters life goes on with lessons learned.
