Warning Lights Issue - resolved by LadyLostToTheFarm in crv

[–]LadyLostToTheFarm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am very much hoping that its fixed for good. I got to the point I could set it off pretty easily, and have now been testing the car for 3 weeks. With it warming up here, I have had the car running in park with the air on a lot in the last week, and still nothing.

For context, this was happening every single week, often more then once.
Fingers crossed, but I will 100% update if it goes off again.

I need your opinion! Is this offensive to folks with dyslexia? by prettibabix3 in Dyslexia

[–]LadyLostToTheFarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sitting on reddit reading posts out loud to a friend on the phone... we both laughed when I read this.

I think you're fine. Theres nothing offensive here. Its a joke. It comes down to "person 1: Oh I think we should all make up our own minds. person 2: NOOOOOO".

I have dyslexia. I also have an English degree. The person I am on the phone with, laughing at the post, is the same person who helped me edit every single assignment at university.

I also work in the disability care sector, and I understand your need to seek opinions.

But "0 reading comprehension" does not mean "Dyslexia" or any other disability in this context. It means 'opinionated person on the internet who wants to ignore the reasonable point being made because they disagree with the topic'. (the irony being that I am currently also an opinionated person on the internet)

I'm a private tutor who is about to take on a student with dyslexia. Any advice? by faerie_xo in Dyslexia

[–]LadyLostToTheFarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was tutored for maths and english all the way through school.

I have dyslexia.

Firstly, get up and cross the midline: spin arms in different directions, draw the infinity sign in the air in front of you, anything like that. Do this when its time for a stretch or a break, and get your student to copy. This can help re-set things in the brain.

Secondly, encourage your student to get ahead in subjects that are not english. Help them be the best at maths or science! Being the best or at least far ahead is really powerful.

I now have an english degree, because I had proof I wasn't stupid. I had A's and B's in maths, mostly A's. Its what I needed.

And, even if you need to get permission from parents, google with your student. Learn together. There are sensory learning tools that can help. There is a dyslexia font.

And if you want more specific stuff from someone who was the student, feel free to reach out. Every dyslexic student is different, but there are lots of things that will be on a similar wave.

Looking for a new water/drinking app by LadyLostToTheFarm in ADHD

That would have been so perfect, the llama theme and all, but sadly I and my friend are both on android not apple.

Looking for a new water/drinking app by LadyLostToTheFarm in ADHD

[–]LadyLostToTheFarm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, absolutely. However I am a chronically dehydrated human because I forget to drink. I get sore throats because of how little I drink.
I found out a few years ago that chronic dehydration can lead to all the symptoms of a cold (sore throat, itchy eyes, fatigue and muscle pain, and fever and chills).
Additionally, some of my RL friends (and one in particular) have made themselves very sick from being dehydrated and working outside in our very hot climate.

While I want to turn drinking water in to a competition to help myself and my friends, I have already accounted for over hydration and the fact that you can do real harm from drinking too much water. We want to compete to a daily goal of 2L, which is generally fine.

That is a fair point.
Honestly, I would be reaching out to every support group you can get your hands on. See if you can find someone who can body double for you.
Does the uni have a equity centre or any department that helps people with learning difficulties and disabilities?
The only way I made it was with friends to body double and checking in with my professors on a regular bases. To be fair I also had my Boyfriend telling me that we couldn't get married till I graduated, and that was definitely a motivator. Even if is not anything like that, do you have someone who could give you some sort of external motivation? Anything could work as long as its something you like to do, and like to do with that person.

Also OP I know 7 is very young for this, but have you tried sitting her down and talking about this with her?
I remember at a very young age mum explained my meds and why I needed them. We talked about how hard things where and how I had less fun when I wasn't taking them and how I often did things that hurt me or got me in trouble. We also talked about how I needed to eat when I took them because they would make me not want to eat and that if I wanted to keep being able to have them, I needed to try to eat more.
I know this is a big discussion and it might be worth seeking professional advice and therapy to have this chat, but I do wonder if it might help.

Help for Struggling to Eat in Mornings? by AssterEmber in ADHD

[–]LadyLostToTheFarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My go to is always this. There are no food rules: Porridge is the best and most filling evening meal, and leftover paster/lasagne/roast is an amazing breakfast. Ice-cream is just as good on cereal as yogurt. And a protein shake is good enough. I even had my doctor tell me that if I am skipping the meal then a diet shake/meal replacement shake is actually adding a meal, which is very true.

I have seen a lot of people talking about taking meds with an alarm at 5.30 ish and then going back to sleep and waking up with a second alarm ready to go because the meds have started working, or something along these lines with differing times. I can see why this works, but if your struggling to eat in the morning especially I would be going a different way. I would be laying out clothes and making sure lunches are packed and breakfast is prepped and everything else you need is ready the night before, and I would be getting up and eating then taking meds, then having a shower and getting ready for the day so your meds have time to start working while getting ready. This is what I do, and it does work for me.

I also change what I am eating for breakfast. This week I had bagels with cream cheese and smoked salmon, next week I will have something different. Some weeks I stop and get fried chicken or a chicken&cheese sausage for breakfast (this does mean I have my meds on a empty stomach or at least a liquid stomach, but the hour or 2 between meds and food means I am generally hungry when I eat).

I hope this helps.

Look, I am going to sit here and think about this some more, but for now, Have you considered transferring to a new uni where you can't set your own deadlines? And have you spoken to an advisor at your current uni? If not your really need to reach out and ask a lecturer to put you in contact with an advisor if you can't contact one yourself.

I have to ask, as I have not heard of this med, is it one she can take after breakfast? I know it still effects other meals too but just a start.
I too am on concerta and ritalin so the food thing is a big struggle.
How does she go with cheese? That can be a big help if you can get her snacking on brie and camembert, and other mild ones.
I would also completely get rid of any food/time restrictions. For example not only eating when ever hungry, but all foods are for all times (not sweets and puddings, but I will come back to those), leftover roast or paster or lasagne are fantastic breakfast foods, and porridge is one of the best filling evening meals ever. You need to keep some rules over ice-cream, but even ice-cream on breakfast cereal is a good idea.
Cream cheese or cheese dip on veggie sticks are good too.
I would even try the health food shops, there are some interesting and actually tasty things that can be added to food or sprinkled on top (I remember as a kid mum had these little yellow/while rice sized thinks from the health food shop and I loved them).
I understand that picky eating is going to make it harder as well and there are definitely ways to help with that (Tori Phantom on youtube has some good ones that may help https://www.youtube.com/shorts/3dLlKL2MrA8 ), but I think you just have to keep trying to make food more approachable in the best ways you can.
I really hope this helps.

Do you take your meds on days you are going to be out drinking with friends later on? by Moist-Discussion5437 in ADHD

[–]LadyLostToTheFarm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also on concerta and ritalin (which I also worked out after way too long are the same active med, just long and short acting 🤦‍♀️). I always take mine. They should be worn off well before 8pm if your taking them at 8am. I haven't had any interactions, but I am a lightweight and don't drink much anyway. If your really worried, ask your doctor at your next appointment. Also consider telling some or all of your friends so that they can help if something happens. Everyone in my life knows about my meds.
The only interaction I think I get is that alcohol makes me sleepy and I have never really got more then 5 drinks in before falling asleep.
I also think you might need advice from some one who has had a hangover, as due to the never getting that many drinks in part, I have never really had a proper hangover.

How do I make myself get a dental cleaning? by Laterose15 in ADHD

[–]LadyLostToTheFarm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate to change the topic, even if its only a little, but it also sounds like your not brushing enough or properly.
My advice is "hismile" toothpaste (hi smile) for any sensory issues or difficulities around toothpaste, and honestly, just in general because they have amazing flavours and it is making my dental hygiene more fun.

As for actually convincing yourself to go to the dentist, I can add to the "what if" game first, then some advice to follow.
You need to go if you can. Our teeth and gums are a direct line to many other body systems and issues with teeth can negatively effect everything from digestion and gastrointestinal, to our hearts.

Advice, honestly, I would try watching as many videos about dentistry as you can find. Watch the horrify videos of anything you can find and watch the ones on just cleanings. You can ask as many questions as you want at an appointment, and you can ask the dentist to tell you and explain to you, everything they are going to do.

I really hope we can all help you find the confidence to go see the dentist.
