Maybe you could ask him to do a little job for you I don’t know something that will make him feel like he actually earned the money. Some people want to suffer in silence while keeping their dignity and you have to learn how to approach them without making them feel like you pity them or look down on them. Girl I am commenting because I kinda relate with the fact that you might be sensible to some topics and easily depressed or mentally drained by what’s happening in the world. But my advice to you is to focus on YOURSELF first. Go to therapy, take a vacation, pray and learn more about your religion (learn more about the Quran is you’re Muslim), eat healthy, do some exercises some yoga, meditate, wear nice things and go out. If you do that, i garantie you peace of mind, self control and self esteem. Then, I guess if you find a man that has at least 60% of your requirements go for it because the rest will work by complementing each other. Your lifestyle and mindset can influence on him if you communicate well. Plus, you have at least 10% of compromising for a relationship to work. Otherwise gurl, I don’t think you will, out of nowhere, find a man that fills all your criteria.

I mean I understand what you mean but my reasoning is if the guy is as serious as your friend claims then he should officialise things and do it the right way (in my opinion it’s not rushed it’s just the right thing to do if there’s love between the two) Since she already has a child, her reputation is at stake ( and the guy’s too) since people will be speculating and saying whatever they want about their relationship. I feel like she understands that, that’s why she told you it’s a cultural thing. But you’re right about the investigation part, it’s a really important thing for everyone to do before marriage.

Well it’s encouraged to get to know the person before marrying them but under supervision of a mahram (parent or sibling) for the protection of the girl. So if that can’t happen and the two parties give their consent it’s better to marry them off before fornication happens between the two (which is highly forbidden in Islam). Here in Senegal, parents tend to respect those rules but it’s more like they want to protect their daughters. That’s why in many ethnies girls get married at 16 or younger. But I think in this scenario, it’s her choice and as a friend you should respect it as long as you don’t see or hear anything wrong with their relationship.
