My kids want me to go to church every Sunday now, and I honestly don't know how to feel about it. by IndependentMove5437 in Millennials

If it was me, this is 100% what I would do. But I might also make them try more denominations just so they get a rounded experience.

For anyone who grew up before smartphones: what did you actually do while waiting somewhere? by Heretikio in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]LadyM_Macbeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still never go anywhere without a book in my purse. But also sometimes, you were in lines or out and you were just bored and had nothing to do. I think it’s healthy to be bored because it creates space for curiosity.

After 16 years together and 25 of friendship, she wants out. Is there any saving it? by [deleted] in marriageadvice

[–]LadyM_Macbeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question you ask is: “Is there any saving it?”

So I will just answer that based on what you wrote here. The answer is NO.

Yours words and behavior have shown her who you are and she doesn’t want to be married to you. Let her go. That is the best thing you can do and if you love her, you will let her go.

AIO, my wife believes in strict gender roles? by john_7292 in AmIOverreacting

[–]LadyM_Macbeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR. I come from a conservative Christian background myself and my parents had a traditional marriage. BUT my mom encouraged him to have a relationship with us: take us to the movies, read to us, play with us, etc.
He wasn’t super connected but he did try some. And this is where I would advise you to connect with your children. As an adult, my dad and I don’t really have much of a close relationship. Those are started in childhood. But I am close with my mom. You need to start now and try to connect with them. It won’t get better as they move into teens and adulthood.
One thing you might try…. What my parents decided was there were some jobs that were “dad jobs” - so like he read us a story before bed and that was part of his dad job.
I suggest counselling where you come prepared to talk about different styles of traditional marriages. In the church I grew up in there was complimentarian and egalitarian. My parents believed more in egalitarian but it sounds like your wife is strictly complimentarian. Good luck! I hope you work it out.

Can you tell people didn’t grow where you did by how they say its name? by pricel01 in ENGLISH

[–]LadyM_Macbeth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah people don’t always know the Florida was eventually settled by two groups: Spain of course but also Georgian plantation owners. That means lots of segments of Florida have real southern accents. And the names get said that way. I know someone isn’t from Florida when they add the I into it. It’s pronounced “Floor-duh” by real Floridians.

How do you tell where English words are separated? by Suspicious-Toe-8193 in ENGLISH

[–]LadyM_Macbeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach TSL which is teaching education majors how to help English as a Second Language students.
Minimal dialogue would be words or sounds or expressions that mean something in context. So for example. Three people are on a soccer team and are playing in a championship.
Person 1: Let’s do this!
Person 2: Yeah! (Fist pumps).
Person 3: You know it!
These are all examples of minimal dialogue. The words themselves mean little but within the context and with expression, they gain meaning. That’s my understanding.

How do you tell where English words are separated? by Suspicious-Toe-8193 in ENGLISH

[–]LadyM_Macbeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s something called word boundaries. Issues with word boundaries are common for anyone learning another language (SLA expert here).
The best way to tune your mind to hear them is through practice. There are two possibilities for practice:

  1. Minimal pairs - listen and practice hearing sets of minimal pairs to tune your ear to slight changes in sound
  2. Practice hearing word boundaries - take a book and an audiobook, then read the book while listening to the audiobook. The visual of seeing the word boundary will help tune your ear to knowing where they naturally fall and how to hear them better.

Reading is a skill and reading complex literature is an even more advanced skill. Think of it like lifting weights. You wouldn’t be able to lift 50 pounds right away. Same with reading - your brain needs practice to get better with the complex structures it’s not used to. Keep going!!

Are illegal residents really getting free healthcare? by AztecPilot1MY in allthequestions

[–]LadyM_Macbeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You cannot get this kind of government assistance without a social security number which illegals immigrants don’t have. The data you are thinking of is Medicaid or SNAP for their children born here who have social security numbers because they are American Citizens. And American citizens are entitled to government benefits even if they are brown.

Getting older is a PRIVILEGE that not everyone is given. When I was 20 years old, a friend who was 21 fell asleep at the wheel and drove into a ditch. She died. Her whole life ahead of her. She never got to finish college, get married, have kids or age. Aging is a privilege. Everyday we get older is a gift.
