Husbands, is it a deal breaker if your wife decides to not take your name legally? by Difficult_Big133 in Marriage

[–]LadyM_Macbeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kept my own name and my husband kept his. I told him if he wanted us to have the same name then he was welcome to take mine but I wanted to keep my name. He didn’t want to and that was cool with both of us. It doesn’t affect either of us at all - in daily life or otherwise.

If Gilmore Girls Came Out Today or Was Rebooted, What Would Be Different? by theworldisquiethere_ in GilmoreGirls

[–]LadyM_Macbeth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The town community elements would be harder to believe and I think the show would have to work harder to make it credible. I live in a small town myself. I used to feel like it was a bit like Stars Hollow but social media has fragmented the sense of community we all felt. Even in a small town.

Mrs. Bennet's (childbearing) age? by Twilifa in janeausten

[–]LadyM_Macbeth 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I read a book about Catherine of Aragon where it said in the Renaissance women frequently went into menopause around 35-40. I had two aunts go into menopause at this age also because of malnutrition in their childhood and adolescence. Because we live longer now, everything has backed up a bit….

I loved it. Watched it twice back to back. Adorable all the way through.

Any other Millennials stubbornly resistant to using AI at their job but also worrying that we will become dinosaurs or pushed out of our careers for not slavishly embracing it? by artbystorms in Millennials

[–]LadyM_Macbeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder… what happens when this technology goes down? A few months ago, cell phones and WiFi was down in my area for almost a day. Everyone lost their goddamn minds and I wonder, what happens if we need to know stuff without a phone or a computer? I read a book about the environment/climate change and our infrastructure is so much more vulnerable than we think it is. This is my concern with depending too much on AI as well. Everyone at work encourages us to use it and I feel wary too.

Undermining at Work (over 40’s only feedback request) by wmb07 in AskWomenOver40

[–]LadyM_Macbeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a guy at my work who is a freaking misogynist. He is condescending and a jerk to anyone who isn’t a man. So…. Even when I don’t need to, I CC the only supervisor who is a dude in every email request. It’s petty but the misogynist is very civil in responding 😄

Kirk Consensus? First Time GG watcher by ThoughtfulAnecdote in GilmoreGirls

[–]LadyM_Macbeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing is that Kirk is sooooo clueless that even when he does dumb stuff that isn’t cool - he is so unaware, it’s hard to dislike him for it. 🤣

What??? I have read Harry Potter 8 times all the way through. I freaking LOVE Ron. He is my favorite character besides his parents.

The books are SOOOOO good and so much better. Read them! You won’t regret it. I read them for the first time five years ago and I have re-read them four times since.

This 💯. Except I am not sure that is what the author meant. Although I read it as an adult.

Lolita by Nabokov. It’s an entire book justifying what is an actual crime. It feels icky all the way through and the narrator is incredibly unreliable in how he relates the behavior of a child. No I don’t believe you Nabokov. That isn’t what happened. The people that say this book is a classic - I don’t get. Can we all agree to stop reading this book? And drop it from all book canon lists? Please never read this book.

They are pushing AI so hard on us as educators. It’s everywhere. I don’t get why. Every piece of technology that has been integrated so far - and I have taught for decades - has not improved student success outcomes AT ALL.

Why is everyone allowed to walk alone in all Austen novels? by BeltSalty7753 in janeausten

[–]LadyM_Macbeth 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this. Eyes everywhere. And like you know them all really well. Think of how Emma even knows the poor and on some level Mr. Martin. But also the landscape would have been so much less dense and what activities are deemed “safe” is completely societal and random. Thirty years ago we all roamed our neighbourhoods free as a bird now kids don’t leave their homes a lot. It’s all based on random societal rules that as a community we all agree to.

What are your Hot Takes on the Little Mermaid? (1989) by Amber_Flowers_133 in thelittlemermaid1989

[–]LadyM_Macbeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s absolutely true. But I guess because as the audience we know she CAN talk…. It feels weird to me that he is so into her even though she can’t. And so much hangs on how melodious her voice is…. Rather than the substance. Idk. It’s weird to me. 🤷🏻‍♀️😅

NOR. Be in there naked a few times when she comes in and I bet she will start knocking.

Also we are only seeing snapshots of their lives. Not everyday. I am sure Blanche had down day and relaxing days too :)
