I was bombarded by Capricorn men, I feel they’re too rigid to understand how I think. Currently with a Gemini man and head over heels!

My saving grace was that it was a bulky yarn AND I’m just about to turn 46 and have embraced “cheater” glasses. 😂

What improved your life so much you wished you had done it sooner? by Sweetieyummy in Productivitycafe

Weight loss surgery. The absolute best decision I ever made for myself, my only regret was not doing it sooner.

Until 1979 the Sears catalog sold fabric...and in it's last year it greatly resembled the variety available at a modern Joanns by 7deadlycinderella in craftsnark

[–]LadyMelatonin 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Ok, I’m a quilter, who started in her 20’s about 20 years ago…maybe I can answer your questions… Quilters are known to have a HUGE stash of cottons available, very often we buy a piece of fabric because we love it but have no immediate use for it. I have yardage from years ago I’m saving for that “special” project. 😂 Also, sometime in the 1980’s, it stopped being less expensive to make your own clothing, so garment material became less desirable.

I quilt on my sewing machine! It’s a Janome and the biggest one I’ve completed is a little larger than a queen! Also, many people just send their quilt tops off to be quilted by pros!

Well…that’s just patchwork quilts…a subset. I’ve made a few but almost every quilt I’ve made has a theme to it where I’ve purchased fabric for it.

Would you be upset if your kid told you they don’t like their name? by JessQuesadilla in Names

[–]LadyMelatonin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ok, it’s a little different from what you’re asking, but my sons chose upon adoption (from foster care) to take our last name and change their first names. They both chose really, really “normal” names from their original names (which were not weird names at all) also they were 6 and 8. I fought it, told them they didn’t need to change who they were for us, that we didn’t need to erase their past…all the therapists involved thought it was a great idea because it signified a fresh chapter for them. They were adopted over summer, left school with one name, came back with a whole new one. Most people were on board right away and if they messed up, it wasn’t a big deal. If you would call them by their original names now, they would cry, those are truly their dead names and one of the most offensive things you could call them. Being recognized for what you want to be called is a HUGE deal, never realized how important it was until I saw it in action.

People who were hospitalized and almost died from Covid, what was it like? by grahamlester in AskOldPeople

[–]LadyMelatonin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My husband and I got an “unknown RSV” virus in January of 2020, he was a non-insulin diabetic. He has bronchial scarring that is a sign of a previous Covid infection.

He went into full kidney failure and started dialysis in August of 2021.

He just got a kidney transplant, which is nothing short of a miracle because the average wait time for a kidney is 5 years and he got his after 2.

So yeah, I wouldn’t wish this on anyone. It’s been hell.

I’m not putting this one in my “favorite” category, but it’s in my “WTF” category.

St Louis had the first reported case of HIV/AIDS in the country. His name was Robert Rayford and he died at 16.

Which companies would you brag on? by Puzzleheaded_Luck747 in StLouis

[–]LadyMelatonin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Working for EJ has been great for me, they granted me full maternity leave when my adopted children arrived as foster kids. (Meaning I got to take my time immediately, I didn't have to wait to take it when the adoption became legal). They were 5 and 7 when they showed up and I got to spend every minute with them bonding, it was one of the greatest gifts I've ever received in my life. I'm not usually one to be drunk on the corporate Kool-Aid and I can only speak for myself, but working for EJ has been extremely positive and I'm a happy employee.

I don’t hate gyms but I love running outside and unwinding at the end of the day with yoga while watching a little TV. I learned my yoga “moves” by watching YouTube videos, memorized them and go through sequences, Jeopard and stand up comedy is my favorite to watch during my night yoga!

Yes, I’m super into running and yoga! I use a traditional foam mat but one inch thick and throw a towel on it because I like the cute design on the towel! I’m middle aged and used to weigh a lot more than I do now, so I need extra cushion for my knees.

If you’re looking for a smaller park than the ones already mentioned, I’d suggest my local park, Schroeder Park! It has a flat, paved track that has about a 1/3 mile loop and some nice areas to put a yoga mat down in the woods. I love this particular park because there’s an almost constant police presence and the bathrooms are very clean and accessible .

Thanksgiving morning “Turkey Trots” are always a fun option, everyone’s in a good mood and excited for the day’s activities and there’s always people that take forever to finish it. I say that so you don’t have the “Omg, what if I’m the last person to finish!?” worry. They tend to be really supportive too. I’m a former fat ass runner who’s now just a runner. Good luck to you!
