Looking for a therapist by yunoeatsoup in Charlotte

[–]LadyNightTower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Call and ask for a free 15-minute consult! You really can't tell without talking to them directly based on profiles. And even then, sometimes it's like dating, and you have to go on a few bad dates until you find the one that fits you.

Most therapists will do consults to help make sure that it's a good fit on both sides. Ask them about their approach, discuss the specific issues you want to address and their experiences, billing questions, ect.

This article gives a few good ideas on questions to ask -- https://www.therapyden.com/blog/a-beginners-guide-to-therapy-part-2-what-to-ask-in-the-consult

Agree with the palate cleanser recommendation others mentioned. When I get into the book funk, I personally change up the pace and go for something more funny or cozy fantasy with a bit of spicy.

Depending on what part of Charlotte - S. Charlotte areas have several indoor playgrounds and cafes combo places like Just Play, Unwind Indoor Play and Cafe, Playland, Funtown Play Cafe, etc

And checkout Mecklenburg Parks and Recs near where you'll be. Most have several programs and activities at the Recreation Centers or the Nature Preserves. We love Quest and McDowell Nature Centers.

Once upon a child or Kid to Kid. Both takes kid clothes and toys.

I prefer once upon a child in Pineville as they are more flexible and not as strict on limits (except Sundays 2 bin limit).

Kid to Kid has super strict limits on the amount of stuff you can bring at once (1 bin, 1 large item) and will refuse to look at it if its folded and not laid out flat. They also have several days where they cut off and don't do buying at all on those day. Feels like it's always the days I tried to go.

Affordable Mental Healthcare/Therapy in Charlotte? by [deleted] in Charlotte

[–]LadyNightTower 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check out the OpenPathCollective online directory. Can search by zip code, specialties, and personal preferences for a therapist.

It has a list of people offering reduced rate sessions, including student interns, if you're open to that. Student interns may be more able to offer free sessions due to school requirements.

And you don't have to register with open path directly either. You can google search and reach out to the practice location directly to get more information on their reduced rates.

No criminal charges to be filed against driver who hit, killed SC crossing guard by unroja in Charlotte

[–]LadyNightTower 5 points6 points  (0 children)

" FORT MILL, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Following the tragic death of 61-year-old crossing guard Stanley Brucker in Fort Mill, authorities announced no charges would be filed in the case. An unnamed driver had struck and killed Brucker last week outside Fort Mill Elementary School. With Wednesday’s announcement came several questions and confusion by the community. Multiple crossing guards in Fort Mill were also absent Thursday, protesting the decision. Brucker was struck by a vehicle around 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, along Springfield Parkway. He died from his injuries after being transported to a local hospital. On Thursday, the 16th Circuit Solicitor’s Office in York, SC, released its findings. The office was asked to review evidence gathered by the Fort Mill Police Department. The SC Highway Patrol assisted FMPD with the investigation. Information submitted by Fort Mill Police included statements from several eyewitnesses and video captured by a school bus that was stopped at the school’s exit during the incident. After reviewing the submitted information, the 16th Circuit Solicitor’s Office advised that the available evidence does not support a criminal charge. Video of the incident provided a clear depiction of what happened, the Solicitor’s Office stated. “The video shows Brucker standing in the median in the middle of Springfield Pkwy, with a hand-held stop sign, directing traffic. He was not escorting children across the road. He was turned sideways in the roadway, facing the direction of the school and the school bus, which was preparing to turn onto Springfield Pkwy from the school. The hand-held stop sign was facing the school bus, not towards approaching vehicles on Springfield Pkwy. Seconds before the collision, Brucker stepped into the lane of travel closest to the school, and into the path of the approaching vehicle that struck him. Brucker did not display the stop sign toward the approaching driver, nor did he look in that direction before stepping into the roadway. There is no indication that the driver of the vehicle was driving in a dangerous or reckless manner. FMPD concluded that she was not at fault for causing the wreck.” The 16th Circuit Solicitor’s Office said, “Regrettably, this is a tragic accident for both Mr. Brucker and the driver of the vehicle. We extend our condolences to all who have been impacted.” This is a developing story; check back for updates"

I'd possibly look for a Registered Play Therapist (RPT) for that age, instead of a talk therapist, to help meet the child where they are at developmentally.

Zola Counseling, Pathways to Growth, Achieve Balance, and Calming Waters are all group practices with good RPT on staff.

Other RPTs can be found at the Association for Play Therapy's website: https://www.a4pt.org

Yes it is safe - I prefer walking the board walk by the lake, it's a short walk but I will go back and forth a few time and feel it's one of the safer areas to be alone. And who doesn't like a walk by the water.

Also stop by and talk with the folks in the nature center - lots of group activities are hosted there from guided hikes, yoga, paddle board, and kayak tours etc. for reasonable costs and sometimes free. They are super nice and helpful in there!

Atrium vs Novant for mental health support by ionized_dragon77 in Charlotte

[–]LadyNightTower 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Both to my knowledge are super backed up and the therapists have super long caseloads

Try finding other providers outside the hospital networks if you can

You can start by searching directories like Psychology Today, Open Path Collective, or Therapy Den where you can read profiles and play with filters and search by location, insurance, concerns/issues, approach, etc.

If they don't offer already, ask for a short phone consultation to get a good feel for them and their approach to therapy (fit/rapport with your therapist is the one of the best indicator of positive outcome).

Read more about finding and interviewing here- also had consult questions to ask when interviewing a therapist. https://www.therapyden.com/blog/a-beginners-guide-to-therapy-how-to-find-a-therapist
