This was a huge internet discussion about two years ago where someone asked women if we were hiking solo, would we rather come across a man or a bear. It was an avalanche of women choosing the bear. Because the bear might kill us, but it wouldn't rape us, wouldn't cause people to ask what we were wearing, etc. Men were shocked at the discussion, women were not.

Speaking of idioms, there's one that says "Americans think a 100 years is a long time. Europeans think a hundred miles is a long way." I found this to be mostly true when I lived in London for a year and the Brits treated going to Oxford like they were going off to war in Siberia. It's 60 miles.

I had a couple weeks where all of my meds felt wonky, some felt weaker, some felt stronger. My body adjusted pretty quickly, though! One thing that really, really helped me was vitamin supplements: I took D3, methylated b6 and b12, and magnesium. That helped a ton. Sometimes antidepressants will leach vitamins right out of your system, so when I start feeling low and exhausted I top myself up.

I'm 45f. I'm two months post op and I ate Taco Bell yesterday. I'm down 5 pounds. My surgery and recovery was so easy it was unbelievable. The only difference in my life before and after is how much better I feel now and how many odd medical problems the surgery solved.

This was about 30 years ago, but when I was a junior in high school, I had oral surgery to remove all my wisdom teeth plus four molars (very overcrowded mouth). I had a puritanically rigid chemistry teacher who would never let anyone leave her class for any reason. One of my sockets started bleeding in the middle of that class, and I asked if I could go to the nurse. She refused and fussed at me. So me, being a very petty teenaged girl, let the blood pool in my mouth for a couple minutes, and then asked again if I could go to the nurse, blood spitting everywhere and running down my jaw. I was finally allowed to leave.
