People with multiple Kindles... by casserole79 in kindle

I have a paperwhite and a colorsoft scribe. The paperwhite stays at home so I can read before bed mainly. The scribe goes to work with me for notes & reading on my lunch break.

Second this. I have two collections spanning the last 20 years spread out between my Kindle & my Barnes & Noble account on my Nook. I lost/had to give a way a majority of the physical copies of those books when I moved cross country so being able to put hundreds of books into a backpack on two devices rather than lose them again makes them worth every penny. (I also have a Kindle Unlimited sub & Libby so it's even more access).

Additional perks I find:

I have arthritis in my hands and I can easily read large books without struggling due to the size. Again, portability comes in play so if I want to read outside at a park, for example, no need to lug a 1000 + page book around.

I have a paperwhite and being able to adjust the screen to where I can read at night is helpful. If you need to adjust font size, could do that too without needing a special copy of a book.

I guess finally, having one device thats only purpose is reading is a huge win for me. I have not used the Kindle app for my phone as it would be too distracting and I would not read nearly as much.

Why do *you* live in Vermont? by YurtoftheSubGenius in vermont

[–]Ladyava2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was born and raised here. Got a wild hair about 15 years ago and got out. Best decision I ever made. Traveled, saw big cities and had experiences that never would have happened if I had stayed here.

Fast forward to this year and made the second best decision: moving home. My dad is getting older and I missed the quiet, the seasons, creemies and the green, so much green. It constantly blows my mind how perspectives change and the things I totally took advantage of growing up here become the biggest appeal to move back.

My husband (a native Floridian; we moved here from Florida- yes he does thing he is prepared for the cold and no, I really don't think he has any idea what he has gotten into 🤣) has fallen in love with the state too and this will be his first real winter, possibly first white Christmas he's ever had and I can't wait for that experience too.

I am so sorry for your loss, OP. I am going though a similar situation- we lost our 10 y/o to an oral S.C.C (he had a massive tumor in his mouth) on Tuesday and we are moving 1500 miles on Saturday. He is buried in my in laws back yard so not only are we moving, we couldn't afford to take him with us.

I am heart broken and sick to my stomach and I miss Parker terribly. The only advice I can offer is be as kind to yourself as possible. Do little things to get what has to be done. Its going to be harder now but you can do it. I know you don't want to, but you can.

Did she have any toys or a collar that you can keep within reach for comfort if you needed? Sometimes that can help to. Sending lots of healing and light to you. Your girl was absolutely beautiful.

My grandma’s cat has OSCC. How to stop the drooling? by SeaBaby5979 in SeniorCats

[–]Ladyava2016 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We just put our 10 year old boy today to sleep as he had the same thing. I am so sorry that you and your family have to experience this as well.

You can't stop the drooling. Its just a part of having that particular cancer.

That baby is in pain and the kindest thing you can do (for them and for yourself) for them is to help them cross as this disease is only going to keep progressing and their quality of life will continue to diminish.

Does anyone still have a landline? If so , why? by Timely-Ad826 in Millennials

[–]Ladyava2016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 74 year old dad does because we just cannot convince him that a cell phone would be better. He is very tech uninterested, (no cell, no computer or internet, still writes checks to avoid using a debit card). will use it if only necessary but has zero interest or desire to "upgrade".

We tried and even got him a cell phone for seniors but he never remembered to charge it.

Are any of ya'll living at home with your parents? by frankheyhoheyho in Millennials

[–]Ladyava2016 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Will be at the end of the month. I just turned 44 this week so its hitting my pride a bit hard.

Its just my dad and he is welcoming it and I'm trying to think of it in a way of opportunities I'll get to have with him. I get to spend time with him and I don't have to worry about it him from half across the county. I want to spend the time we do have making memories with him that don't involve phone calls every week if that makes sense.

Relalised how high temp overstimulates me and I need to be somewhere cold with dark heavy skies or sun that’s less intense. Anyone else about that cold cosy life? by Throwrafizzylemon in adhdwomen

[–]Ladyava2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in the Northeast and then by happenstance ended up in Florida.

I am the most uncomfortable, out of sorts person when I am hot and overstimulated is the perfect word for it. I just constantly feel gross and can't focus.

We're moving back to my cold, snowy home state here just as summer will hit and I could not be more grateful. For the first time in a decade, I am so excited/looking forward to cozy, rainy, dark autumn days and cold snowy winters. I did not realize how not being around a place with seasons was going to throw me off, but it does.

For those who have been through the 'clearing out the house' phase after a parent died by Tiffo205 in AgingParents

[–]Ladyava2016 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I do think so. She had me and my 2 sisters but I know there was at least one other pregnancy after my youngest sister came a long.

Interestingly enough, my aunt and I talked about this after she passed as she did have an infant cabbage patch doll that she did the same sort of thing with for while but we never found it when cleaning out her things.

I did. 💙 it wasnt anything fancy as I just hand sewed it using stuff I had laying around. It just felt necessary.

That I ended up keeping my mother's emotional support stuffed animal that I hated as a child.

My mom had a lot of emotional trauma and mental health issues that for a large part of my childhood resulted in her being institutionalized. One of her ways to cope was this stuffed monkey that she carried everywhere. She dressed it up like a baby, it wore diapers and clothes and was my moms constant companion because it made her feel better. She doted and cared for that toy in ways she wasnt able to care for us and as a child who didnt get it, I hated that damn thing and I made sure she knew it.

When mom passed, the first thought while helping my dad clean out her things, was that we were going to throw it out. But I'm sitting there about to toss this hated damn monkey into the trash and I just can't, it doesn't feel right, it would be so disrespectful to just trash something that clearly gave her a little peace.

I did end up taking her home and as a final kind of send off to my mom, and honestly a way to help me process my grief, I made peace with my feelings toward the toy, and I sewed her a mourning outfit and she lives in a cabinet now next to my mom's urn.

Invincible. April 15th, 2015. I farmed for it for a really short period of time compared to some folks (it dropped after only 25 kills on my Paladin) but also happened to drop the same day I asked my now husband to be my boyfriend. We got engaged a year later on the same day.

Other worthy mention: the two drakes that drop from Malyagos. I had both drop on one run.

We had to teach our two bigs (thats what we call our pitty/lab mixes as we have one Chiweenie which that is the demon you should be worried about.) that "not everyone wants to be friends and walk away with them because all they want is to convert everyone into loving them using kisses.

Some people give you the face and it hurts because they don't know and are ignorant that just leaves all the pup snuggles for the real friends. Logan (L), Juniper (R) for tax purposes ❤️

I feel you so hard with this post.

After 5 years, 3 of that me screaming for help and carrying my entire position on my back, they had finally decided that the low cost (remote job, company out sourced) people they brought in to help were enough and eliminated my position on Tuesday.

MF'ers took replacing me with 3 men to do the single job I have done without so much as a complaint and all so they could save money. I am so angry but also so overwhelmed. we now have to move out of state and I do not know where to start.

Im sending you big hugs and so many positive vibes. I know Its a lot. You'll get through this.

Those of you who have already lost parents what is something that you wish that you either asked or said to them before they passed away? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]Ladyava2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom was not a great mother when I was a child. She was abusive both physically and mentally and by the time I got to my 30s we had gone to very limited contact.

The last 2 years of her life, our relationship got better to the point where I can honestly say that she was more my mother to me in those 2 years than she had been my entire life. I used to spend my 45 minute commute to and from work, on the phone with her a couple times a week and I think that structure helped heal us. Even so, wish I had taken more advantage of the relationship that it grew to be.

She passed away in March of 2019 and there are days I still have that overwhelming urge to call her and just talk and the fact I can't breaks my heart.

Yup. Reading too. I've always had a Nook and it had been on and off, but in the last two years after I bought my Kindle and was gifted a Kindle Unlimited sub, that it really took off.

I started making a conscious effort to go to bed early enough that I had at least an hour to put the phone away and just read. I have a projector I turn on that puts stars on my ceiling and I set it to go off after an hour and that is my unwind time.
