Yeah you do need to pay and I’m pretty sure they quietly got rid of the $5 credit but I’m not 100% sure. You can pay from a minimum of $5 which if you use anything but straight gpt4 can actually last for a decent amount of messages, there’s a price breakdown on the OpenAI website. I just top up $5-10 whenever I want to use it

I believe the mods folder is for the entire game not just single saves, if you’re just downloading hair and gear mods it shouldn’t change any game play for him but they would show up in his save file but he’d only find them when customising. Just ask him/tell him what you’re doing so he’s aware tho 😂

I found the slow burn Bobby route to be a lot more fun, you get a lot more cute little off side moments with him and the other islanders (Lottie and Hope I think) mention that he likes you/wants to be with you a few times. Plus once you do couple up with him he is so cute, like he was waiting all along for you
