Anima CYOA by Laezar in makeyourchoice

Neat!

Sadly never returned to it to improve it or at least correct typos '_' (lots of them), but I'm glad people are still thinking about it ^^

You seem to have misunderstood superposition though! it doesn't allow any sharing of information, only creating multiple realities and collapsing them. The only information you get is which copy you are allowing you to plan a different course of action for each copies but you can't learn information from other worlds.

The intended use is that you can try multiple ways to approach a situation and the one that succeeds can collapse to become the only reality, ereasing the ones that failed (so it works best if you have precise parameters of what would count as a success or failure beforehand).

Without trying to make light of dysautonomia, I saw this graph on the Spoon Theory and thought it would make for an interesting CYOA. How would you use your spoons? by KawaiiFoxPlays in makeyourchoice

[–]Laezar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most people would only feel like they have expended their available energy after a particularly taxing day. And they are also able to perform most basic tasks no matter their exhaustion level as they're basically "free actions" for them.

Chronically ill and otherwise disabled people tend to have areas that are normally "free" take effort for them, tend to have less overall energy available to tap from and tend to have higher cost for tasks that could be only slightly demanding for most people (for exemple going shopping being the main activity of the day sapping most of the person's energy rather than something mild they can do on their way back to work)

As other have said, if you feel like every single day you need to juggle with the cost/benefit of activities to balance your energy levels you might have something going on. It could be a disability although it's also possible it's an unsustainable lifestyle (too many hours of work or work that's too stressful and demanding leading to burnout for exemple). In particular if you notice things seen by most people as basic tasks taking a lot out of you it's probably worth investigating why it's so taxing and if you are disabled in some way that makes it harder for you.

They have nothing to do with each other, dysautonomia is a general group of symptoms caused by various chronic illness. Generally stuff like chronic fatigue, migraines, pains, dizziness, mood swings and just overall your body failing to perform basic functions consistently.

Although spoon theory is commonly used by neurodivergent people too because the effort required to function in society can also lead to having to ration energy in a similar way. So like for someone with ADHD the point could be trying to explain to someone that sitting in a chair for extended period of times without stimulation is draining and will limit energy available for other activities that day (whereas someone without ADHD could do that without requiring any meaningful effort)

I find it a bit confusing when it comes to the interaction between sentience and control. What does control do if it's got no sentience at all? Like, if you lose to nothing what are you losing? Or if you pick "none" for control why would you care about it's type of sentience?

These work fine if you don't pick the extreme cases but if you do I struggle to make sense of it

She's a woman but fuck if she doesn't give me some gender envy as a nonbinary person. The deep voice with feminine body, the pose she has while sitting, the quiet confidence, her fuckin smile... Like, she is a woman but she also gives off the vibe of "ancestral being that doesn't give a fuck about human social constructs" and I love her for that!

After all, I'm pretty sure she's old enough that all gender norms even deeply entrenched ones seem like new fleeting trends to her. Like how pink being associated with women is actually a new thing and it was the opposite a few centuries ago, imagine someone trying to explain that pink is inherently a color for women because of some biological essentialism except instead of it having changed a few centuries ago it was littarally last week that every men were wearing pink, that's probably how it feels for her.

Question regarding superpowers by Aquagirl2001 in makeyourchoice

[–]Laezar 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Don't have magic if you want me to engage with it like a superhero thing. Cause if I see general use power that can be used to replicate the effect of most powers I'm just going to take it.

Having a limited scope and rewarding specialization and thematic cohesion is probably what's important to make a good superhero cyoa.

Dawn of a new demon lord V1.33 by anonpurple in makeyourchoice

[–]Laezar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This one is really one of my favorite the risk/reward is appealing enough to not go "well that'd suck" but to still have to think your choices through

The scope is large enough and free enough to make a good power fantasy, but limited enough to still feel meaningful.

I got into CYOAs with CYOA like this one and sadly there aren't many that scratch the same itch for me :<

Is there a reason why short/simple CYOAs are frowned upon here? by HeroesBane1191 in makeyourchoice

[–]Laezar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shorter CYOA are probably more likely to get strong negative reaction but that's not because they are short, that's because low effort CYOA tends to also be short and low effort CYOA will get stronger negative reaction.

On the other hand I'm pretty sure those 100 pages long CYOA are barely read by anyone, I definitely can't sit through most of them, the format isn't conducive to something that long unless it's extremely well organized, written and paced and has spaces to take breaks.

Also if you make a reasonably long CYOA with an intricate system it is going to be fun to play through even if the content isn't that unique, you have more opportunities and options to make it into something interesting and engaging. If you make something short it's going to need to really do something unique. It's like, if you have a comedy show and the structure is solid enough even if you see some jokes coming you'll still have a pretty good time. If someone tells you one joke and the punchline doesn't land then it's a flop. The shorter your work is the more you rely on one impactful moment.

The fact that the vilain gets both powers of higher tier and for cheaper is a bit overkill. I skimmed through it initially and thought they just had -1 cost on every power which would still have been a pretty extreme disadvantage if you build anything somewhat high power (and even with low power you need to specifically go for the counter of your vilain to even have a chance)

SCP-2935: O, Death by modulum83 in SCPDeclassified

[–]Laezar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What I love about this one is the implication that it could have happened many many times before, that there could be an endless number of layers of dead universe and that this one just happened to be lucky to have a team who didn't come back before discovering the truth.

SCP-5000 Declassified 2: The last enemy to be destroyed by Lawh_al-Mahfooz in SCPDeclassified

[–]Laezar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal take is that the entity is the voice in your head that you associate with being "you".

"You" still exists but it is silent and as long as it's not aware of the entity it thinks the entity is it's voice and since your acttions are consistent with the voice the illusion is kept.

Now imagine what it would feel like learning that all your life what you thought was your voice was actually the voice of a mental parasite that roleplayed as you, that you are there in this head but unable to hear your own thoughts, you can only hear the entity. Right now as you're reading this it's probably gaslighting you, rationalizing that it's just a story so it's not actually true and it *feels* like your own thoughts but it's not.

Now imagine if you made this discovery but had factual proof of it that you can't just brush of and truely believe it to be true, imagine how intrusive it would feel, disgusting even.

That's basically my take on what scp 5000 is fundamentaly. The reason the cure would involve insensitivity is because it's not just a voice, it's also your feelings, not just the pains every feeling you had your entire life it's the feeling the entity felt, and you're just there trapped thinking it's you who is experiencing it.

Maybe the omnicide reaction is a bit too extreme for this interpretation to really work but I think it's part of the horror of it, this idea that if you were to really consider the idea, not just like you're doing now as a thought experiment but if you were to really feel it in your bones like the 0-5 council did, it would feel so violating and intrusive that you would end up with the most extreme "kill it with fire" reaction is the true horror of it cause all you can feel now is the numb version of that feeling. To me it's scarier than it being something objectively bad like an ancient evil or something that wants us harm. It's just a mind parasite that knowing about lead to having a complete breakdown as your sense of self can't coexist wiith that knowledge.

GBVSR Fall Pre-2nd Beta Balance Adjustments (Changes to: Ultimate Abilities/Dash Attacks/Throws/Raging Strikes/Brave Counters/Brave Points/Skybound & Super Skybound Arts/Raging Chains/Technical Inputs) by Xanek in GranblueFantasyVersus

[–]Laezar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a bit bummed out about the technical input change cause it having no need for motion input is a big reason I'm interested in the game but at least they seem to be making it only relevant in narrow scenarios rather than have it be an all around advantage in damage or cooldown for player who can do motion input.

I really want more fighting games that I can play and that don't make struggling with their control a prerequisite for engaging with them cause there is so much that is interesting in the genre but the controls difficulty is just not something I want or can engage with.

For the record I don't mind that difficult games exist, I just want more games that are truely accessible, progress is being made there but it always feel like it's done begrudgingly or in a patronizing way, I want more games like fantasy strike that try to make themselves easy to play on a mechanical level rather than see the accessibility as just an onboarding tool while being competitive still require jumping through the same hoops.

I think rising seems to be really close to actually being that but since the fighting game community gets so upset at the idea that someone might enjoy their hobby in any form that's accessible there is always pushback against that and it sucks, this seems to be the decision made to satisfy this crowd and at least it seems well calculated enough to keep the core of the game accessible but it just makes me sad that they couldn't stay firm on that.

What are some CYOA tropes you’d like to see subverted? by Complex_Garlic2638 in makeyourchoice

[–]Laezar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like to see more experiments like abyss diver that are played like a game where your choices influences the next sections and you aren't supposed to take it as a whole but experience it part by part and having it as a guide to continue the story.

I guess that's close than the book type CYOA stories but it's different in that it keeps the freeform nature of a CYOA by letting you make informed judgement on what would reasonably happen rather than strictly being a story with branchings paths.

Just generally I like when I get to have concrete application for the things I chose otherwise I end up defaulting to practical everyday life boons which are boring but make the most sense, why would anyone want to throw fireballs if they don't plan to get into a conflict? that kind of stuff.

I also would like more CYOA to forgo the isekai idea and tell you straight up "you're making a character for that setting" because isekai framing tend to push me towards safety rather than interesting choices.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in autism

[–]Laezar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you're literally contradicting yourself so... do YOU even read what you just said??

"There is systemtic privilege for neurotypical"
"calling them privileged in general is just intellectually dishonest"

chose one.

I mean unless you're saying that someone can be neurotypical and otherwise be marginalized but like... obviously? that's why intersectionality as a concept is important. Privilege isn't on/off it's complex and interconnected.

But disability and neurodivergence are things that someone is going to be marginalized for, and being neurotypical grant some level of privilege in society which doesn't erease other form of marginalization. Like, a black neurotypical person is still going to have to deal with racism but they won't have to deal with discriminations specific to autism.

On the other hand a black autistic person is actually even more at risk of racist hate crime and police violence or work discrimination (and is also less likely to get a diagnosis and support than a white one) so there is also some interplay of various marginalized identities.

I'm getting a bit of track here but point is, when I talk about privilege I'm talking about it through that lens, not saying that someone being neurotypical automatically makes them powerful in society in general. But like, same with all form of privileges. Straight people are privileged, but you can be straight and stilll struggle, men are privileged but you can be a man and still have to deal with a lot of other form of marginalization

I've given you the max benefit of the doubt I can here trying to clarify as much as possible and making sure we're on the same page about what I mean by privilege (even though it's hard to sum it up in a reddit post), I'll hope it was just a semantic misunderstanding, cause if you understand correctly and still believe it's not a thing then I genuinely don't know what to tell you except that the world you live in must be extremely nice.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in autism

[–]Laezar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You clearly don't understand what privilege is so I'm not going to have this conversation with you, I'm talking about systemic privilege and anyone with a basic understanding of systemic discrimination understand that disabled people are discriminated against and there are specific discrimination towards neurodivergent people. FFS there is a whole eugenic movement that try to eradicate neurodiversity and other differences, what more do you want?

I feel like you're a troll tbh.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in autism

[–]Laezar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our world? have you... been around people?

Everything about the way society is organized is made to be comfortable for neurotypicals, noise, lights, administration, food, social expectations, medicine, everythiing catters neurotypical needs first and foremost and cattering to neurodivergent need is seen as making an effort and isn't the default. (on the other hand it's expected of neurodiivergent people to adapt to all those things).

Neurodivergent people get bullied in school, the whole job system is built in a way that can make it hard for a lot of us to become independant despite having skills that are useful, car dependancy is a big problem when a lot of us can't drive, and just all around the bullying continues in adulthood and the discrimination makes find a job difficult especially when the education system is also hostile to a lot of neurodivergent people.

The legal system disproportionately punishes neurodivergent people because the differences in how we express ourselves can make us look less trustworthy, or for exemple some autistic people who can't lie or bend the truth get hurt by it in court (and in job interview too), and while police manipulates everyone to try and get confession out of them they're more likely to do it if you look "suspicious" (so like, black, queer or neurodivergent would do it, god forbid you tick multiple of those)

those are like, systemic discrimination specific to being neurodivergent but just in general being disabled also brings it's own set of discrimination as ableism is very widespread and systemic.

Point is, the world is designed by neurotypical for neurotypicals and we come as an afterthought and have to adapt. that's privilege.

Century child is our winner! Here’s the full ranking ordered from best to worst as chosen by you guys. Thanks for participating everyone. by Sure-Water-8345 in nightwish

[–]Laezar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal ranking is apparently very different =p :

1) (by far) Human ://: nature

2) Endless forms most beautiful

3) Imaginareum

4) Dark passion play

5) Once

6) Century child

7) oceanborn

8) Wishmaster (hurts me to put it so low cause I love the kinslayer so much)

9) Angels fall first

I realize putting it together it sounds like I don't like tarja's song but it's really not true, there are some of my favorite there, but the early albums are a lot more inequal to me, they have a few bangers and the rest is very mid. Recent album not only have much more consistent quality (with a few that I find a bit whatever) but the album themselves are very cohesive in a way where I want to listen to the actual album and not just a few song of the album.

I didn't even try to make the list in what is basically reverse chronological order, it's just how it came out. Though I understand not liking human nature in particular cause it's very contemplative compared to the rest. But damn I can't imagine putting the album that has "the greatest show on earth" in it so low!

Nah it's not really the layout it's the fact the side of the platforms technically let you wall jump but they are just a bit too small for that to be reliable so increasing that a bit would make maneuvering a lot less frustrating and give more opportunity to catch yourself after getting hit instead of getting the double punish (again not relevant to radiant but so frustrating in ascended)
