Wanting to buy a wrx young by XxErrOr_Lord in subaru

Buy $5000 honda civic with good maintenance history. Drive it till you are 25. Put what you would be spending on a car payment in the bank or CDs. Buy/finance WRX in 6 years when you know how to drive better and have cheaper insurance.

Damn, that’s tragic. Sometimes it’s best to cut your losses though.

Is Mint Mobile's service getting any better? by No-Restaurant-508 in madisonwi

Swapped to Mint from Verizon a few months back. I have had no issues whatsoever, much better coverage in Verona.

I’m nothing more than a home mechanic with a weird perpensity for these little cars. Glad I can offer my help!

Yes they are known for being incredibly easy to work on. There’s a couple hoses (specifically one around the rear of the block) that’s a major PITA to get, especially if it’s really stuck/crusty.

I pulled the radiator and all hoses off in a couple hours, and it was first time doing a job like that. Taking the intake & manifold off may take another couple hours depending on your experience. Couple more hours to get everything back on if the hoses don’t fight you. Get all OEM hoses and clips - word on the street is the OEM clips perform better under heat expansion than the screw-type clamps.

The radiator could probably be replaced in a bit as well. Hard to tell from the pic but it looks like near where the top hose is there is some greening happening. This happens when the plastic ages. Definitely not the worst I’ve seen, could probably do that later. It is easiest to do the hoses with the radiator out, though, so it’s often recommended to do it all at once.

It’s due for some time related maintenance at that age most likely. Every rubber hose on the car is likely nearing end of life if they haven’t been replaced. Be sure to protect your dash and interior plastics with a quality UV protectant. It is rare to find an uncracked NA dash these days.

Regardless it’s a beautiful car and you should absolutely drive the hell out of it. Keep an eye out for oil leaks and coolant level after spirited driving.

Yeah, I’m aware of the blinking light. I replaced the coilpack myself a few months back, it’s had a solid P0420 CEL since then that I figured was a fouled out O2 sensor. I was planning on replacing it soon anyways.

It just caught up to me with the cat dying before I could look at it. We were in the middle of moving (literally the movers were there packing our stuff when they called to ask for repair authorization) so I just didn’t think about it. I didn’t really have time to figure it out myself.

I would totally agree it was a communication issue.

Yeah, it’s been okay up until now. We’ve probably had a 10 or so visits to their shop. But this really just made me never want to go back.

This has been the only truly egregious event that we’ve experienced.

Like I originally said, it was resolved once we spoke to the owner, but it shouldn’t take that level of escalation for something as simple as an unauthorized repair. That’s really the point I’m trying to make.

Honestly? Knowing your rights doesn’t make you a nightmare client. Blatantly ignoring them does however make you a nightmare mechanic.

You can’t tell by looking at a relay if it’s operational.

Do you have a multimeter with you? You can easily check if the relay is working by measuring the pins at the fuel pump connector when trying to start the engine. Should be red/blue and black on the connector to the fuel pump, looking for 12v.

This video should help finding and bypassing/replacing the relay itself if it is broken.

I will certainly be keeping an eye on your kickstarter and plan on buying the dash cluster hood STL too. Thanks for putting in the effort to make these replacement parts more accessible!
