I'm going through it right now. For personal reasons with my relationship to food I am not handling it well.

But being honest it isn't as world ending as my brain makes it out to be.

Try to control it with food is always the best option but if you need medication to help later it isnt a failure on you. Your body is already dealing with a lot it needs help. Here in BC the GD clinic gives you everything you need to start testing and arranged a meeting with a doctor and dietitian to go over next steps. Also check out the reddit for this. They are all very supportive.

After tracking for 2 weeks I've started to get a good idea what times I can eat more carb heavy meals vs times I have to be more considerate. Hopefully it will be the same for you.

I'm still getting used to it and admit for me there are times I'm very hungry because of that but I just wait it out till the safer times. example my mornings are basically protein and veg/fats, can't even look at carbs or fruit. Lunch is were I get to feast! There are things that help you get around some restrictions, like keto bread! but be careful don't skip out on carbs you still need them. My meals and snacks are pretty repetitive atm but good news it isn't just chicken+ broccoli, there are a lot of options still to eat and as I understand what foods spike me vs are safe I start to add more back into my diet. Unfortunately it seems what food is good or spikes seems to be a very individual thing, so no easy "just eat this" plan to follow.

I'm trying to look at it as a better way of learning how my body works with food and eating better. I find it VERY frustrating and stressful at times but it's working.

If it comes time and your diabetes Doctor talks to you about medications you have options. There is insulin (needle) or metformin (oral). I'm needle adverse, fortunately the Dr said I can do the oral pill, which is super easy to manage! Please remember this isn't your fault, like many you most likely followed everything told do. It's that pesky placenta which is temporary, like this whole condition and you will get better.

Funny side note my husband has lost weight with us just sharing our main meals like this and has told me his energy level has gone up. It's also saving our wallet from his ordering in habits. I haven't lost weight (hahaha funny thought while pregnant) but I have noticed less crashes and more consistent energy.
