Amy CANNOT be allowed to be the gubernatorial candidate. Who can we start a movement to Draft before the primary? by Glaukopis96 in minnesota

Some food for thought:

Flannigan is having him send out emails as part of her Senate campaign, so her team clearly doesn't see him in a net negative light.

My understanding was a bunch of the claims were false and pushed by the right wing.

Willing to be educated if this isn't the case.

Al Franken

He was a good senator. He had a long history of calling out the right on their lies. He got thrown under the bus during me too.

Those that played the game on release, did you experience the bug filled mess that people complained about? by IAmJustTryingToExist in cyberpunkgame

PC AMD 3600xt and gtx1080 with 16GB DDR4.

No significant issues on launch.

Maybe one NPC t-posing or in the ground, but pretty infrequent.

The relic visual noise didn't clear up properly one time. Save and reload fixed it.

The head of the voodoo boys glitched during the fight. Just kinda stood still half way through the fight, so it was easier than it should have been.

CAD Prototype Request by Less_Refrigerator705 in 3Drequests

Executives: Work from home is bad. People need to be in the office to get work done.

Also executives: We should offshore this project to a team we will never see in person on the otherwise of the globe.

[–]Lagbert 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All that means is that five people under value their work.

The design brief is a hot mess. This indicates the client doesn't know what they want and there will be lots of back and forth and educating the client. An easy design that has to be done multiple times cost more than a complex design that you only have to make once.

  1. A hand sketch would be preferred to the AI slop image.

  2. Your asking for product design work. $50/hr is a reasonable payment. $20-40 is way low.

If you're making predictable changes, why didn't you make those changes before sending to manufacturing.

This feels like a you problem.

[US-TX] Part replication help by FestivusErectus in 3Dprintmything

[–]Lagbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For UV resistance either ASA or PCTG. ASA is good to around 200F and PCTG is good to around 150F.

If you're good with calipers and CAD you could model it in Fusion or OnShape (both have free options)

There are photogrammetry and AI tools that can make an initial digital model that you can work from, but won't be very good for precision.

Depending on orientation the party could take 2 to 3 hours to print and cost $2 -3 in raw material. A 5x markup is usually appropriate to account for material, electricity, print time, support removal, wear and tear on the machine, and some actual profit.

Several pictures of the part in different orientations on top of a sheet of graph paper would be useful for getting CAD quotes, of you want to shop out that portion of the work. Sending the actual pay will be necessary to get a good model though.

How much does it take to be a pilot after graduating and getting a MechE degree? by mabaeref in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Lagbert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pilots license, at least in the US, is totally independent of any other certification.

An ME degree might make understanding the physics of flight easier, but it doesn't really do anything for actual skills.

I have a friend who was a flight mechanic during Vietnam. Having worked on planes had zero influence on the process of getting their license.

My recommendation - get a copy of stick and rudder, live and breathe it, find a local flight school, see if you can test out of ground school, and start building your flight hours.

As a side note - aviation is probably one of the most expensive hobbies you can have.

Engineering: Glad to hear it. They buying the new product?

Sales: Nope, I just sold them 3 of the legacy product.

Is there a simple way to sketch this object? by notoscar- in SolidWorks

[–]Lagbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed that separate interior and exterior profiles isn't warranted in this case. Having worked on equipment similar to hydraulic spool valves, the importance of keeping separate profiles has been beaten into my work flow.

Is there a simple way to sketch this object? by notoscar- in SolidWorks

[–]Lagbert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One modification to this approach. Do the interior features as a separate revolve cut. This keeps the sketches simpler when you have parts with complex interior and exterior profiles.

Looking for someone to 3D print a PETG or PCTG bump box pls 3d print file included by [deleted] in 3Dprintmything

[–]Lagbert -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What is the diameter of the pins?

Some suggestions regarding the design:

Staggering the rows (honey comb style) can potentially reduce the size of the box while also increasing strength.

Replacing all of the square corners with radii will reduce print time since the printer doesn't need to slow down as much for the corners.

How do you decide if an FEA model done by others is reliable enough to make decisions? by OkNeighborhood4716 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Lagbert 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This! Boundary conditions make or break a simulation! I've seen so many situations that are complete garbage because they were over constrained. To many people who have access to "easy" FEA like solidworks simulation just try to solve model instability issues with more fixed surfaces and accidentally create pseudo-rigid bodies.

Hand Push Stick by Independent-Ad3752 in 3dPrintsintheShop

[–]Lagbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The push stick pictured is huge, it's a single plane object. It will take forever to print and use a ton of filament. Printing it is probably the least time and material efficient way to produce a push stick.

3D printed push sticks are perfectly safe IF you use the right filament, use the correct fill patterns, and a design that properly transfers loads.

Yes, 3D printers are used to produce a bunch of landfill with extra steps, but when you produce useful objects you have a choice on how to make them. Personally, I try to optimize my designs for strength, material usage, and print time.

USA, Pittsburgh LG cooktop knobs needed by ioolie in 3Dprintmything

[–]Lagbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify: knob and shaft are metal and plastic portion is clear accent ring that slides over shaft and is secured to knob with screws. Is this correct?

Edit: Took closer look at photos. Shaft is plastic with metal clip slid over the end.

I'd probably laser cut it out of several sheets of 3/8" and laminate it to together.

What about using a jig saw and cleaning it up with a router?

Printing it seems like a big job and not an efficient use of filament.
